    Beautiful car. My folks bought a 59 Olds Super 88. It was a great car, but the Pontiac’s always looked better to me. The 1960 was one of the most beautiful.

    Designed by Pontiac Chief Designer Stylist Paul Gillan, including the one year only Pontiac crest emblem. Harley Earl designed the windshield for the 1959-60 Cadillac, which was shared with all five GM car divisions.

    Lou...Thanks very much for posting this...brings back vivid memories... I was 12 yrs old in 1960, when my folks decided to splurge and bought a brand new '60 Bonny Convertible the color was golden palomino tan, and the 3 mind blowing options that came with it, were power windows, 6-way power front bench seating, and the piece de resistance..Air Conditioning in a convertible!, all pretty much unheard of for the time...you can imagine how stunning it looked sitting in the driveway...stayed in the family for about 15 years...thanks again.....

      Instead of a pacifier, I teethed myself with the dashboard of my Grandparent's 1960 Bonneville, lol. Theirs was blue. Years later, you could see my spot, lol. I've been over 115 in Granddad's '60 a few times when he would "blow out the carbon," lol. Beautiful car!!
      He had a '59 too.

    I had a 60 flat top Bonneville I bought for 300 dollars when I was 16 in high school. It was the E420 with tri power and got 6 mpg on ethyl gas which cost 25 cents a gallon in 1971. You could fill the 23 gallon tank for five dollars, and I did that 3 times a week when I was making 42 dollars working for minimum wage. It had the same 8 spoke wheels and did 0 to 60 under 10 seconds. I swear you could see the gas gauge move when you did that. Of all the cars I have had over the years, that is the one I miss the most. Good times...Ken

    I was and still am a Ford fan, but in the 60s, Pontiac was my 2nd favorite! This '60 Bonneville is a true beauty and offered luxury and performance at a good price. To this day, I can't believe my father bought a new Dodge Matador in 1960, which was their top of the line. My father never liked that car! I don't know if he even considered a Pontiac Bonneville. The Dodge and the Pontiac were probably comparably priced. Pontiac was the only GM marque my father never had. Don't know why but it's OK dad! I forgive you!

    My parents bought this Bonneville in 1960 in the same exterior and interior colors, only the 4-door Vista with a white top. Thank God they had enough sense to buy air conditioning! Most amazing part about this car compared to the other GM's of that year was the huge trunk. Look at the 1960 Buick trunk, particularly--it's a bad, bad joke. I spent many hours in this beautiful Pontiac traveling the country...

    Everyone has there car that speaks to them. One of Mine was the '59 Pontiac that I just love the lines and the dash Not that I am older than Joe here But I never got to go to car shows and we never had new cars so by the time I was 9 in 1971 we were getting these cars as used. Loved the lines on the 1959 Pontiac. I actually hugged the car and cried like a baby when dad sold it for $25 to a young guy in the neighborhood. But I did get to go with him to the FORD dealer to pick out our used 1968 Country Sedan which we had for 6 years.

As a matter of fact, my favorite car was my 1968 GTO, 400 big block, 3 speed manual. Very fast. The only downside was on the Interstate..3 feet to the gallon! I jest..sorta. So, again, thanks.

    It's unusual for a Bonneville to have manual windows. It has the bucket seat option. You should have pointed out where the hood release is. I had a 60 Bonneville 2-door HT many years ago. An elderly lady in the neighborhood gave it to me. It ran like a clock. I hit a rock in the driveway and cracked the exhaust manifold. Eventually I junked the car, but saved the flicker wheelcovers. They still hang in the garage. It was no cream puff, but it ran well and the price was right.

      Thanks for your reply. I've been watching a lot of your videos in the past few days and always enjoy them. I'm a stickler for detail and can't help but comment on flaws when I see them but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the cars and your presentations. Do you know how to open the hood on a 60 Pontiac? :-) the owner should have pointed that out.

      I had 2 60 Bonneville 2dr hard tops , one white and one 2 tone green. Neither of mine had power windows or bucket seats but they both had an option this one doesnt.....the backseat fold down center armrest .it makes the interior look much better. I'm surprised this convertible didn't have one since it had the bucket seats. What a beautiful ride !!!

    Those styling creases in the body increase the rigidity of the panel in critical areas, essentially work hardening the metal to impart increased strength where it is needed most. The three tone red interior becomes four tone just as soon as the owner takes his seat, but that jersey clashes with the more subdued hues of the interior. It's so important to dress appropriately when driving these cars, especially with the hood down.

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  7 лет назад

      HI Andrew Graham, I have styling point just for you. I see many Owners at car shows "dress the part" to match the time period of there car. It's cool. However I recall the first time my 16 year old daughter took a ride in my Dodge Viper and pulled down the sun visor looking for a mirror on the other side of it and found none. She said, Dad, there is no mirror here to see how I look!", and I replied, "Do you know why?, She said, "Why?" and I replied because you always look good when you're driving in a Viper :-) Lou

    Was it common back then to have reverse all the way down past low gear like that?

    • @1575murray
      @1575murray 5 лет назад

      Yes it was at least on GM products. However Chrysler products didn't work that way before they went to push buttons in 1956. They had R and D separated by N. That was later made a federal safety requirement and all modern vehicles are built this way.

    I love those old Ponchos, 1960 had a lousy look compared to the 1959 and 1961. That year designers must have been hitting the whiskey a little heavy.

      @@loucostabile 1960 didn't have the trademark split grille, but it still had the wide track. I liked the look. The 1960 Pontiac brochure showed a profile of the front from the right fender and it said, "From a fresh point of view", the point being the shark nose hood with the letters PONTIAC across and the T on the point. BTW, love the color Coronado Red.
