- Step off the bus with the four recruits we're following through U.S. Navy boot camp in episode two of All Hands Magazine's mini-documentary "Making a Sailor." (U.S. Navy video/Released)
Lmao I remember Chief Kalal rushing us off that USO bus, he told me "I've seen Steven Hawking move faster with a dead battery, NOW MOVE YOUR ASS, GUY." 😂 One of my best nights in bootcamp.
Lmaooooo I swear he told us that too
That is.. I don't know.
😂😂😂
Can't forget his catchphrase "Unfuck your life recruit!"
Bro I’m dead lmao
Chief: Say Something!!
Me: This ain't it chief
Ha the loudest I've ever laughed
You only need to know 3 words:
"Yes"
"No"
"Chief"
You'd be the pushup king 😂
@@Nmille98 1 more
"Maybe"
Did you see all the recruits behind him holding phones to their ears but not speaking? Lol
"This is more your navy than it is mine...
I wanna make sure years from now, I can tell my kids and my wife that we are safe because there are tough people in the navy and I know for sure because I put them in" most hardest thing I've heard.
jakobi kornegay what’s the time stamp?
jakobi kornegay thanks
He's one hardcore Chief. He's FMF. has a Seabee pin, and has a CAR. You know he's seen some shit when he was in Afghan and Iraq. Looks like he's a good RDC
Lmao so I’m safe because the navy is protecting me? What a joke
CANDYMANE Yes idiot. Thank our large military for your safety. You don’t have to ever worry about missiles landing on your house because of our brave service members. If you don’t like it by all means go to Syria, Israel, or any country bordering North Korea. Ask their citizens if they wouldn’t mind having a large military so they can sleep soundly at night. Fact is if we ever needed manpower to fight a war you’d be the last in line. Sad.
Recruit: “Yes Chief! “
Takes Step Back
Chief Kalaw: So you have Chosen Death
I expected him to get yelled at when he stepped back forward without being explicitly told
More like this:
Chief: You didn't choose death, recruit but you chose something else.....
DIVISION!.....ATTENTION!
HALF-RIGHT....HUAH!
FRONT LEANING REST POSITION.....MOVE!
IN CADENCE........EXERCISE!
@@chrismc410 a fate far worse than death

Chief Kalaw greeted us too off the bus. Some kid told him “thanks” for correcting his ass and the chief said “don’t thank me, thank your father for not leaving you in a sock”. 😭 I knew at that moment how much I was going to enjoy the RDCs at boot camp lmao
LMFAOOOOOOO THAT'S COLD 😭😭💀
They were called Company Commander's when I was is in or CC's for short. They would ride bicycles around and would sneak up behind you, usually when you were going somewhere by yourself.
Yo 😭
X
Is he a Filipino
Chief Kalaw is scary but the more you progress in training, the more the rdcs ease up on you. On 6-3 of training, chief came in while we were doing pt and he was singing Taylor Swift and told us that she was the greatest singer of our generation and walked out
well my ass would be pushing the earth non stop if he said that in my earshot.
You served ?? Sorry I'm just confused. Like were you in this video?
Europa H2O Alien someone having different musical preferences than you? That definitely dictates their ability to succeed in wartime.
I rember being on watch one night and he was rover and starboard watch ended up getting lit up 😂
Chief Kalaw is an amazing RDC. As hard as he is and downright intimidating he is a good man Hooyah!! But he reminds me of my father (Senior Drill Sgt at Fort Leonardwood)
The hard moment is when you realize that the barbed wire on the fence isn't to keep people out... it's to keep you in... O_O
Breeze Smith lmao no it’s not you can literally walk out of bootcamp if you want 😂
Our RDCs showed us where the train station was... if ever we wanted to escape.
Breeze Smith God loves you
2 years and u still haven’t deleted this lol 😂
You can wash out and quit anytime you want. You have no idea what you are talking about lol
Oh my gosh lizard king! These flash backs are insane. That night I had to fake a phone call because my phone was dead
The Lizard king shouted in my face when I was doing mine. 🤣🤣🤣
Duuuuuuuudddde!!!! That’s the same guy who yelled at me when I got off the bus. He called himself the lizard king!😂
Glad the Navy is being represented more accurately. It's the way it should be.
RhettyforFun 💯
It was nothing like this fuck the navy
Damn in the army they got their shit thrown but this is kinda soft compared to others.
@@leograndthio5074 It was more like that. If you didn't make your rack or your locker area was not squared away your stuff was yanked out in the middle of the compartment. If too many people had done that then they did what was called abandoned ship. That meant you closed all the windows to the barracks, moved the racks to the side of the compartment, rolled down your sleeves and buttoned your collar all the way up. There was no air conditioning in the barracks back then. So you were PT'd until everyone's uniformed was completely wet from sweat and then went beyond. They called it make it rain which meant the sweat had to build up on the ceiling and drip down before we stopped. Might be old school Navy I'm not sure but it was more intense than what I've seen so far.
No i mean getting off of the bus privates already be getting folded and doing multiple sets of push ups after almost falling asleep. Then we have drill sargents throwing luggages into puddles and putting hands on the new privates.
I'm one of the skinniest, meekest, quietest ppl you'll meet and I got through bootcamp. Once you get used to the yelling its a breeze. I was surprised when guys bigger than me would quit. It's the ppl who aren't used to being yelled at or told what to do that quit.
motown To be honest the screaming is worse than the workouts lol.
i agree man. i was the skinniest, weakest dude in my platoon at paris island. bigger, stronger people quit. i never did, it amazes me how people can just give up mentally.
Blitzcat how tall are you
AmvFlicks I'm 5'9, started at 126 pounds and now im 140 pounds.
Agreed. I went through Army boot camp which is harder and after a week or two the shits normal. Shit Army AIT is similar.

Hahahaha
THATS SO ME LMAO
Best part of the video
Chief Sandi was a boss (Filipino female chief with no cover). She was one of my division RDCs when I graduated in March 2017. She is a green side corpsman (combat medic) and made chief in 6 years. Much respect. If you know your enlisted ranks before going to boot camp, it'll make your life a whole lot easier. Listen and work as a team..easy day.
She's Samoan
6?! That's impressive as fuck if true. Most make Second Class in around 7.
From Guam, she was a pimp of a chief in boot. Wish I could get in contact with her to tell her how much I appreciated her efforts and attention to detail.
FINALLY another one. This series is super informative. Way better than all of the outdated videos of boot camp that we had to rely on in the past.
Austin Niche Exactly
Lmao,no this is the censored version of bootcamp
Angelo Morgan still better than the ultra censored versions they made in the past
I had to rely on my father and my grandfather's advice. = )
From what I have just seen. I think boot camp has gone soft. Wow much nicer these days to compared to when I went through boot camp.
When i went to navy training a guy a couple guys down from us was smiling & the cheif walked up to him & said "Wipe that ugly chappy lip smile off your face before i uppercut your pigeon bean lip having toad face, you flower picking fairy" i just couldn't take it anymore & had a laugh attack but when they started screaming at me i cried 😭
I don't think I'd be able to hold in my laughter if the chief went up to me like that
@@jhevgainz2307 I think he said stuff like that because it's funny & someone normally would laugh but it was an experience i'd never forget 😂
2 Cents God loves you
The best part about watching this is remembering that Bob Ross used to have the job of screaming at new recruits. Imagine that delicate afrod man screaming asmr painting tips in your face.
“NOW PAINT SOME HAPPY LITTLE TREES!”
*RESPOOOOOOOONNNNND YES CHEIF NO CHEIF MAYBE CHEIF*

Hey man we were there the same night he said that!!
Happy to be part of this project, thank you to all hands magazine and everyone involved in it.
Bootcamp will put 1 or 2 years on your face i didn’t realize how much of a baby face i had. The stress you go through is the worst part.
Dumb question but when you ship the box (with your phone) home when do you get it back? Like do you stop by home before going to school?
Kestavier you don’t get it back unless your family brings it to graduation. And no you don’t get a break between boot camp and school. After graduation you’ll more than likely fly out to wherever your A school is early the next morning
Te-Aja Iman Thank you and damn... that sucks 😂 I know it doesn’t mean anything but I have games to play on my phone 😂 don’t want to miss anything ha, I’m going to miss it, how often do you get to call home? I know at the army they keep your phones and you get to call once and awhil
@@xman011101 i’m pretty sure if you do really good on a certain phase, they give you a phone call/letter home. At least I’m pretty sure that’s how the army does it.

Is he Filipino?
Now imagine being a Marine
yup
Chris Fisk He was FMF. He worked with the Marines. 😂
I was seriously considering going into the Navy when I was in high school. I went to the recruitment office and was going to sign the contract and everything. Then I thought about it, and I knew I couldn't do it. I can't take people yelling at me, I usually just start crying right away, which is honestly super embarrassing, but it's the truth. I truly respect all of the other people that can take it, and went through with going into the Navy, because I'm certainly not strong enough to do it.

Wow I remember this night. This guy the lizard king got on me bad to lol. Proud graduate on August 3rd i was. Division #300 Hooyah
Low key this isn't accurate. I recall every RDC going the F off non stop cursing calling us some of the most vulgar and foul names haha.
David Costantino they had to keep it pg XP somewhat tolerable but for the rest of us it was DEFINITELY alot worse, but hooyah it made us strong as shit
It was a constant string of swear words and name calling... And spit in faces.
It is definitely a better representation than even a few years ago.
They can''t curse because, as a blue rope I talked to while in THU said, it's technically unprofessional. I think everyone knows what they actually say, I know I remember.
They're not allowed to swear, so they don't do it on camera.
Thank you for this post. I am a former military veteran and I had no idea that the U.S. Navy was like this. I thought it was easier. Nope! This is real informative.
Valerei Renfro it’s definitely easier and shittier
Salute
I graduated August 2nd. Chief Kalaw gave my division a super motivational speech before our final PFA. So much respect for him.
Husband just called me from his first phone call we watched this video before he left and it helped him a lot!
Easily the best decision I ever made in life. I was one of the oldest in my division but I was friends with all my fellow recruits. A lot of immigrants there in boot camp which made me see the best side of America.
I struggled with the swim so bad but I made it. One thing boot camp taught me in life is that there is really no obstacle you cannot overcome if you are determined. I still don’t know how I passed the swim test but I know I made it out alive!!
Good luck to all future sailors! Yes you can do it.! My old ass did it! Lol
What’s the swim test like ? Is it hard ?

Just attended grad for my son Friday - Div 910, he was rifle guard, education, made sharpshooter on pistol. Very proud of him! Already see the changes. He was an Eagle Scout, and I'm a disciplinarian, so he was a little used to structure. Still, he told me when he got there he did the "what have I done" thing. Saw who looked like Chief K (quietly) correcting a couple guys at Grad at their posts. My sincere thanks to all who serve!
Hands down the best boot camp video Iv seen the British military need to take notes
Glad they decided to make a more up to date series on Navy bootcamp. I remember the same chief and petty officers from the night I got there back in Feb 2018. This is extremely accurate and it isn't at all easy. Especially in the beginning. Prepare yourselves lol
The first few days of Air Force basic training or something like this, but gets really relaxed really fast. I see why they call us the chair force!

I remember Chief Kalaw coming into my divisions compartment. What a great chief he was, we all wished that we had him as our division chief. RESPECT THE DOJO! Great video, looking forward to the next.
The female Navy Chief Corpsman was apparently a sorta legend when I was in bootcamp .. she was three compartments down from me and made chief in like 6 years which is unheard of for corpsman
josue torres it’s called the Filipino connect.
Her name's chief sandi or sandy. She was my brother div's chief, therefore we spent a lot of time with her. She yelled A LOT.
juan barron lmao that's chief sandi? She still there she was an rdc for one of my Sister divs
Allo Vico yup. She loves to say "freaking damn"
"MouthBreather"
Gosh this brings back memories.. all of us just sitting in the p way, waiting for further instructions, and we all just fell asleep lol honestly though I would do it all over again. Boot camp sucked, a school was better but getting out to the fleet was flipping awesome. After dental in phase two or three, I came down with strept throat and was rack ridden for almost a week. The thought of possibly being held back a week broke my heart because I missed my family so much. Thankfully I caught up to the rest of the division and graduated with them
as a veteran myself, i understand what the recruits felt as they were being screamed at. i am an army veteran, i love all my brother n sister veterans no matter the branch. i still believe i should have picked navy instead.
Hooooyyyaaaahhh about time big navy produced a new recruitment video
Had HMC Kalaw as my 1st RDC. Whole Div looked at that man like a war hero. Glad to see him as the first face that the new Recruits see. He's intense as all Hell and then some but he's there to make sure you succeed. Semper Fortis Chief!
These are hilarious. The new recruit said he thought it was going to be more relaxed? He obviously didn't do his homework. How in the world did he come to that conclusion?!
Anxiety kicking in about 4 minutes into this already and I’m not even there 😆
Love seeing this series, it's been 30 years now since boot but it all comes back watching this. Thanks for offering this insight into the modern Naval boot camp

That was my chief at boot camp from 0:00 lol ahhh I remember the yelling and endless pushups from that guy 😂💀
So I'm told the Chief "greeting" the recruits is nick named the Lizard King lolol. Dude is pretty intense, I like it, makes me feel better about the Navy.
Camel Tow I was there in January. This video doesn’t do justice. It’s much more intense than this.
Camel Tow bruh the lizard king kicked a bottle and it landed near me lol I got shook. He asked a cadet “if it’s stupid fucking question hour” and “how many fucking Grammies does Mariah Carey have?! She has fucking 21”
I've heard, my son graduated in April, he said these are a watered down version and it was very intense which I was pleased to hear. Thank you for serving!
Hahaha, my kid said a lot of F bombs were dropped by the Lizard King which of course they won't air on these videos but we still get the point.
LMFAO! My RDC used to stop OTHER divisions as we marched across the base and call them all bugs and threaten to step on them. "Recruit! Do you know what I do to bugs? I STEP ON THEM! I CRUSH THEM WITH MY FEET!" I miss boot camp.
THE LIZARD KING!
i love seeing this. god bless my sailor brothers, your corpsman and your culture that you gave to my corps
Watching this video I can smell the decades of accumulated recruit misery and fear in those tiles. Brings back memories. Not good memories, but makes me glad I made it through.
The female chief was a blue rope chief select when i went thru boot, I remember that she put on chief in 7 years as an FMF Corpsman which is pretty amazing to hear. really cool and knowledgeable person.
That Chief greeted me when I first went in Nov 8th 2017, they def toned down the cursing but thats how they are, im glad the Navy is finally showing people what its like!
They don't cuss on camera

We get yelled at in the Army and smoked
You just deal with the tired
at least ya'll got a bus, we had a duty van pick us up and had way to many people crammed into there. 18 seater with like 25 guys in it, fresh off a plane, all full of the wonderful FAN odor. (Feet , Ass Nutz for the curious)
i had a 6 hour duty van ride from st. Louis with about 12 people
Awesome videos! This is what the Navy needs!
I like how he is so confident he’ll make a hell of a good sailor
This series is really accurate and some of the RDCs I see in this series I remember from my 9 weeks in boot camp.
They need to do a uncensored version of this cuz these fools where not that PG
Stephan Carrizales ikr the camera is always different and it's misleading honestly
i can believe how some of these kids responed to the HMC's orders. I was scared shitless when I went thought in 2004. Never got yelled really, maybe 2 times?
I admit I actually cried the night I came to boot camp in early 2005. In retrospect, my world was very sheltered until then.
Matthew Barnebey me too, not afraid to admit either, but I wanted to prove to people that I can do it. I had a great run, 7 years as a SH3(SW). Had odd hononers like earning a ARCOM.
Appreciate the love. I was in also 7 years, but as a LS2(AW) and my time was shortened due to medical concerns. The Navy put me temporarily on their retired list for several years and then gave me my severance.
Matthew Barnebey I also went through in 2005 and also did 7 years as an LS.
In 1980 at RTC Orlando the yelling never ceased for 8 weeks! LOL
To be honest these recruits have no respect or have any common sense of direction. Those who follow basic rules and just do what is told you will be fine.
I was thinking the same thing lol I went through army basic and never got screamed at cuz I did the right thing haha
Yeah
I dated a drill sergeant once. He never yelled at me once 👌 i respect these new recruits. Military isn't for everyone
😂😂 the guy that the Lizard King was yelling at on 5:23 was in my division
This is the first time I’ve seen a navy boot camp video were they actually yell at you. Glad that I know what to expect now.
Mason Holmes they curse way more for future reference
they only yell at you if you cant listen. thats not to say they cant find a reason to yell if they wanted
My rdc made a kid have a full conversation with a wall until we left for chow, another kid yelled out attention on deck when a petty officer walked in, poor kid did close to 50 10 counts
Richard Cornell hahahaha wow, my biggest problem will definitely be remembering who to call petty officer and who to call sir and who to call chief
Mason Holmes if you are unsure of the rank and they have khakis on salute them and say either good morning afternoon evening sir, just to be on the safe side, petty officers have black pants on chiefs will have khakis On same color, just never ever call a chief a petty officer after P days are finished
My brother in law will be joining the navy, he loved his experience at the navy base when we went to the graduation a couple weeks ago in Chicago, IL. I’ll make sure he watches this 💯
Love the mini-documentary ''Making a Sailor'' :) Lots of support from Bangkok!!!

For those that go on to serve. Thanks. I know from experience that the US NAVY has the highest standards. You guys rock.
I love this video. The petty officer’s yelling reminds me of marine drill instructor yelling, just minus cussing.
Cheif Kalaw was one of the RDCs in my ship and the only mental image I have of him is beating our asses everyday. It was weird seeing him calm and talking to the camera.
This gave me flash backs of when I went to bootcamp. Wanna wish everyone that just joined the Navy, good luck. This ain't nothing!! Bit remember Team work makes you and the Navy better!!
