- Victoria is the capital of British Columbia and the largest city on Vancouver Island. It's served by Victoria International Airport (YYJ/CYYJ), located to the north of the city near the towns of Sidney and North Saanich.
YYJ is home to a solid lineup of domestic flights, with a nice mix of private action and regularly scheduled flights from Air Canada, WestJet, and Flair.
I had a great time spotting there back in July with @BSiskaAviation on a beautiful summer day. Enjoy these 15 minutes of YYJ action!

Back in the day, YYJ used to be almost all Dash 8s with a couple of WestJets here and there. Very cool to see the change over the years. Great video!

I love flying in and out of Victoria. The views are awesome, and the airport is big enough while still having the feel of a smaller one.
We used to fly the e175 from there to Seattle. I believe my record was 19 minutes!
Yay I’ve been looking for someone to come here in Yyj and do some plane spotting although we have just have few planes
Loved the CV-580 at the beginning. I used to fly them as a passenger on Allegheny and the original Frontier Airlines. Even flew one once from Colorado Springs to Denver (Stapleton) on Aspen Airways in the 80's. I loved those old planes. On a Frontier flight one time, the pilot hit the brakes so hard when we landed that someone's briefcase went sliding from the back of the plane to the front.
It belongs to Kelowna Freight contracted to Purolator Courier.

Been a long time since I have been to Victoria! Nice to see some spotting from there. Back in the '70's, I remember the terminal being referred to as "small enough to swing a cat and hit all four walls"!! I'm assuming it is a little bigger now! Flew in on a Convair one time. I think it was my only flight on a prop plane!

My son was doing some classes as part of his aviation in highschool at the Flying Club, he is now just doing his work experience with De Havilland/Viking Air.
Ah yessss... CYYJ to CYVR at 7,000'. A great 'transoceanic' leg for a DC-9 back-in-the-day... Those were fun, quick flights. Nice shots - thanks for sharing.

I remember a flight from YVR to YYJ back in the 70’s on a PWA 737.
Vertical takeoff up to 20,000 over the top and roller coaster down to sea level! NEVER forget it!💕

Coolest PWA flight I saw was from Calgary to Castlegar. They came through the valley From Nelson, banked a HARD left and planted it on the numbers at the same time as the wings levelled!

It has been announced the building of a new control tower will commence soon. The tower currently in operation was built back in 1958. Expected to be completed in 2026 to handle the increased volume of air traffic.

I was based out of YYJ as a flight attendant, in 1988, when we were Air BC. Dash 7’s then , soon to follow with the Dash 8-100. Good days as I remember . Onward and upwards, eh!!
