- The S&P 500 is probably the most recognizable stock market investment. It pretty much represents the U.S. stock market as a whole because the companies contained in it are so large. However, there is a pretty big secret that not many people realize when they talk about the S&P 500 and its average returns over time. The gains and losses of the S&P 500 are not intuitive to most of us when it comes to what is causing them.

Thanks for the great info Zach. Always enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the great work!
I usually invest in index funds.
Thank you so much!
Welcome Back Bruh, Im glad you back making videos
Thank you! I was doing a bit of traveling in Japan! I'm back home now
@@OnCashFlow Oh wow, if you made some videos, would love to see what you did in Japan. You inspire me to make videos
Which index fund do you prefer, Total Stock Market index (ex VTSAX) or S&P500 index (ex VFIAX), and why?
I prefer the Total Stock Market Index because of the small amount of allocation to mid-cap and small-cap companies, especially since I use a 2-3 fund portfolio. I made a video previously on my thoughts between the two:

@@OnCashFlow awesome I'll check it out thanks!
I have on average about 10% of my portfolio in individual stocks. So far I have been a poor stock picker, but that doesn't mean I won't be successful in the future. The majority of my portfolio is in the NASDAQ index.
10% is a safe amount to use for that if you are interested in individual stock selection. Good luck!
Mixture of both
What's your mixture of both look like?
28% in 1 sector is dangerous. Also tech isn't growing like it did the last 14 years. You want even split for diversification buy RSP every holding is. 0.20. yes even Apple and Microsoft.
Dangerous is a strong word, but I see where you are coming from. In the past, different sectors have held different allocations as our society has changed.
S&P 500 for the win! If Warren Buffet says it’s all I need, I trust what he says
Very wise man indeed!
It's the unnecessary volitility for me. You can't hold VOO while in retirement you risk 20%+ drops while retired.
Yes, there is volatility, but that is the tradeoff for the long-term returns that it generates.@@rayb6852
If you had to start over again with your investment journey but still have all the knowledge you've built today. Where would you start? Particularly referring to traditional stocks versus s&p 500.
S&p500 index funds? Vs traditional stock trading?
I have over 100 companies not including sp500 and schd one might think im crazy but I enjoy picking and buying companies
100 individual companies? Wow that is a lot to manage!
@@OnCashFlow i just keep up with the dividends to make sure they’re being paid
I wish you the best with investing, I couldn't handle that! @@InvestersEdge-lm6zl
If you know what you're doing I don't see a problem with it.
Knowing what you are doing is not always enough because so much is out of your control when it comes to publicly traded companies.@@rayb6852
