Yes, I live in U.S. I had to pay full retail for it as my NE2 isn't until June of next year. Ended up paying $471 and some change including taxes. It's supposed to be $249.99 with a $70 mail in and a 2yr contract.
Might be an old feature for phones but I found that panoramic photo thing towards the end really neat. I'm always trying to do that with my camera but I can't keep my damn hands still enough. Ordering my Omnia tomorrow, can't wait.
I've noticed that people who come from the "iPhone" world tend to use their whole finger tip to try to move something on a PPC device. The touchscreens don't work the same way. With most winmo phones, you're better off using something smaller like the very tip of your finger, which is why they also include a stylus. I had trouble trying to use my friends iPhone for that very reason; I'm used to fine control where with the iPhone you have to use the whole surface of your finger.
This tiny button is a legit complaint and has been discussed in various forums. Someone did find a way around: Reassign the side button that normally brings up the "Main Menu" and make it "close program". This can be done in Settings. I also reassigned the first click of the camera button to the task manager so I can "end task" quickly. (Camera still works) If you don't close out often, the Omnia will eventually lock up because it does not actually close out the programs when you hit the "X".
I heard that the Korean version has an 806 MHz processor, 800x480 screen, and 3G video calling with a VGA front camera. I also think that the other versions for other countries have these features.
when I went to the verizon store for my new phone, it was either this or the storm. the salesperson informed me that the storm is overadvertised and the omnia is a better alternative. I got the omnia, and I love it, though the ringer volume and vibrate could be a little louder and stronger. sometimes I can't hear/feel it when it's in my pocket. otherwise, it's a great phone, and getting it at $100 after discounts is an awesome incentive. those on verizon, definitely check this out.
I have the dare, and I like it quite a bit. This looks like it has a little more functionality to it, and the Wifi aspect to the omnia is huge. The omnia seems to be a little less responsive to touch though. I would really like to play with this phone though.
i got the phone couple days ago..its pretty sick better than i expected. the touch screen is not vary sensitive & the phone has so many features. its comes with a stylis' so its kinda like a palm piliot. Overall I give it a 8.5/10
You are absolutely right. Being well versed in Windows Mobile and seeing this vid i went to a Verizon Store and turned on mouse mode and this phone immediately became the best Windows Mobile phone ever in my eyes. This phone is great for someone who is professional but wants a phone with an insane amount of functionality like smackfanatic said. I have to pay full retail if i want this phone ($559) and trust me i'm seriously considering doing it. (btw i currently have the xv6800)
please remember this is not a what you say an "iphone killer",although it is a very high standard for smartphones with it's easy navigation, awesome camera, and optical mouse
I just got one last night. At first I was iffy with it but after figuring out the optical mouse and getting used to typing on a touch screen im liking it. And it was only $49 bucks ($93 total with tax). The Env touuch was going to be almost $300 out the door screw that noise!
I would go with the Omnia. The storm is good but its a little slow and you get speed, a more intuitive layout, and a much better camera with this phone.
i actually just bought the dare. its a rly nice phone. i was gunna get the enVtouch but that was more expensive and didnt have alot of the same features as the dare. so far i rly like the dare. the toucj screen keyboard does take a little time to get used to. but if you have the money, get the omnia, i messed around with it in the verizon store, and it is a rly nice phone. i would recommend it, i just didnt have the money, i think it was like $200, with a 2 year contract.
I got omnia i900 about 9 months ago and I have to say I have been quite disappointed with Windows Mobile (6.1), which is why I will finally get an iPhone soon. (but maybe version 6.5 is better?) My main problems : Searching through the contact list or the music library is not easy at all, sometimes the alarm clock just doesn't ring, for no reason, and sometimes you have to restart the phone to get the camera to work. Iphone may not be perfect, but at least it's user friendly and it works.
I dont get it why these "reviewers" keep referring to megapixels as it would somehow be a measure on how good the camera is. Megapixel is just the resolution of the image.
if you are connected to a wifi network, you will just use the internet from whoever provides internet to that modem. If you are not connected to a wifi network, your phone will access the internet through your mobile phone provider, and use your data plan. I dont know what you mean by 'version server'
BTW the internet seemed quicker than on my dare (but he didn't do too much browsing or to new sites.) The smile detection feature was pretty neat when I used it in the store. I'd say go with any of the phone's just check them out first. In July the dare IMO was the best phone on the market for Verizon, now you have a few more good options. I've had a few problems with my dare as I'm sure all phones will have so IMO get the one you like the most. I liked the dare before but not so much now.
the fact that Verizon has decided to include that warranty department number in default address book is telling of the position windows mobile has in the smartphone market
I just got this phone. love the wifi and the camera. I've never been a fan of windows (im a mac user) but windows mobile 6.1 isnt that bad i guess I just wish it looked better. the ONLY thing i hate is that the GPS is locked to VZ navigator so.... you have to use vz nav or nothing (or esternal gps)...... the phone is very hackable and i do love that (verzon software give you access to the phones internal files.)
I've had the dare since July and it's alright. I'd rather get something else. I don't know if it's the phone or verizon in general but I don't really care for it. The camera is what drew me into the verizon and the dare. The verizon salesman had one and it seemed like a nice phone. I'd personally try it out for a while to see if it was something worth getting but from my first perception I loved the phone. Camera had some neat features and was better than dare. I also looked at the storm.
Buying it unlocked, means buying it without a contract OR sim card. Sooooo that you can use it on any provider, and with ANY plan! (Mainly T-Mobile and AT&T/Cingular though) :D.
I was holding out for the HD version as well until they returned my email stating that there currently are NO plans to carry it. Partly because it is exclusively Symbian based and No US carrier supports this. I picked my Omnia up for FREE combining all my discounts and love it ! No more iphone Crapps store for me. Free from the Apple leash !
You can get it for $14.99 if you order it off of the verizon website. And no dealing with rebates at all. I think they're pushing out the old stock and getting ready for the Omnia 2.
That's true, but everybody knows of the storm, while few know about the omnia, I prefer samsung anyways but I just hope the design and interface will be clean and prompt.
its the same as my old nokia n95.. which had a bad battery but not that bad. battery lasts 2 days with normal-heavy use, just stick it on charge every couple days and you wont have a problem
I love his demonstration!! He explained it very good. This phone has WAY to many features! lol I WANT IT SO BAD!! Im going to get it while Verizon has an Upgrade Package for me! ^_^ YAY ME!!
It's a pretty neat phone but the major downsides are offcourse windowsmobile , so no capactive touchscreen. That's why you should go for a LG arena , N97 , or Omnia HD. Good review tough.
And also due to the rather crammed messaging, I installed a word corrector app. As long as you type within the radius of the letter, it corrects the word for you in the event of a typo, which is pretty common with touch phones.
Verizon does require you to add their $29.99 data plan to all smartphones now. Which only gives you unlimited email and web. It does not include text which is pretty stupid when you think about it.
thats true, palm is doing a great job and a big comeback. i love the pre, ive never seen one physically but i love its os. i just dont know why they made it with a real physical keyboard then patched in a on screen one.. uhh i thought u didnt want they didnt want to be iphone :S
It is not a slide phone.I use to think i900,i908 are exactly the same with i910 verizon but not really.i910 is a i900 "MINUS" the following:Java,GPS(because its exclusive to VZ Navigator),Front Camera for video call,GSM because its CDMA(Most countries have GSM).Try considering Samsung Epix or RIM Storm. This is just my opinion.
WHAT?! i was doing a shit load of research on it today and was so excited for it to come out for the US. what is your source on it not being releasing to the US
How do you like it overall? My contract is up with Sprint soon and I was considering Verizon. I was considering this phone, but if it's a pain I don't want it...
Is it just me or the touch screen is not very sensitive and responsive? You have to tap really strong to make it stop the music on the video, for example. Also, I thought it was really slowmo when he moved the widgets on the screen.
omnia is better than the dare. i have 1 and my friend has the dare. dare is simpler to use, and omnia is a little more confusing, but the omnia is great once you get used to it. the touch keyboard is amazing.

Ordering my Omnia tomorrow, can't wait.
Got this Omnia for $0 after combining discounts and what not. Absolutely love it. Disappointed that the HD model won't be coming to the US.
i just got the Samsung Omnia phone like a week ago and so far i love it...
I've noticed that people who come from the "iPhone" world tend to use their whole finger tip to try to move something on a PPC device. The touchscreens don't work the same way. i just got this phone and so far have no complaints...
good to know! .. i ordered mine yesterday and it should be arriving soon
I've been looking at this phone for awhile. Your vid just convinced me to get it. Tomorrow, it will be mine. :D
this phone looks great i didn't know samsung made high class phones like this
i remember having this phone. I also remember the battery dying so damn fast i needed a charger literally everywhere i went.

as soon as i saw it drop 50 bucks earlier this morning i ordered it right away. great looking phone
one of the coolest phones right now imo!

I have the iPhone 3G s and I know it might sound weird, but Samsung Omnia was my favourite ever phone. :(
I have the dare, and I like it quite a bit. This looks like it has a little more functionality to it, and the Wifi aspect to the omnia is huge. The omnia seems to be a little less responsive to touch though. I would really like to play with this phone though.
I'll be getting mine tomorrow. I ordered it Wednesday night.
i got the phone couple days ago..its pretty sick better than i expected.

This is the i910 for Verizon...
This is a badass phone, I have one myself... blows the storm away!
I prefer the optical mouse setting to the stylus. Works flawlessly.
very nice review!
i was wowed at the smile feature of the camera and the internet still a microsoft fan.
please remember this is not a what you say an "iphone killer",although it is a very high standard for smartphones with it's easy navigation, awesome camera, and optical mouse
Yes, but you have to install the appropriate driver for the phone on your laptop, and know the generic dialup number for your service provider.
I just got one last night. At first I was iffy with it but after figuring out the optical mouse and getting used to typing on a touch screen im liking it. And it was only $49 bucks ($93 total with tax). The Env touuch was going to be almost $300 out the door screw that noise!
Daft Punk! Yes! This review is the best thing I've ever seen because of that.
the USB is the charger! The splitter allows for charging and data simultaneously.
I would go with the Omnia. The storm is good but its a little slow and you get speed, a more intuitive layout, and a much better camera with this phone.
thx this helped alot cus im getting the omnia soon and i would have had NO CLUE as to what i was doing thank you and once again thank you.
August 2010, now this Omnia looks like a KIRF phone! :)
Yes, the touchscreen takes a bit getting used to. I have one and it does take some practice.
Yes. As of now all phones (not just PDA phones) require a "data package".
simple and elegance!!!
i must own this phone...
the touch screen should primarily be used with a stylus.just thought I'd let you know if that's what you're talking about
i actually just bought the dare. its a rly nice phone. i was gunna get the enVtouch but that was more expensive and didnt have alot of the same features as the dare. so far i rly like the dare. the toucj screen keyboard does take a little time to get used to. but if you have the money, get the omnia, i messed around with it in the verizon store, and it is a rly nice phone. i would recommend it, i just didnt have the money, i think it was like $200, with a 2 year contract.

thanks for this! I was about 90% sure this would be my new phone. Now I'm 100%!
Yes. I emailed them asking if they planned to carry it and if so, how much? That was the answer I got.
This phone rocks.....
Getting this phone soon.....
Yes because both ATT and Verizon REQUIRE you to purchase a data plan as a condition for purchasing this phone.
BTW the internet seemed quicker than on my dare (but he didn't do too much browsing or to new sites.) The smile detection feature was pretty neat when I used it in the store. this phone is dope! gettin mine tomorrow for sure!
the fact that Verizon has decided to include that warranty department number in default address book is telling of the position windows mobile has in the smartphone market
i said good thing they FINALLY have a video camera and there are other phones that allow you to cut videos when sending them
looks like a very good iPhone alternative. ATT's service is crap in my area, so imma switch to Verizon and get this :D
I just got this phone. love the wifi and the camera. I've never been a fan of windows (im a mac user) but windows mobile 6.1 isnt that bad i guess I just wish it looked better. the ONLY thing i hate is that the GPS is locked to VZ navigator so.... you have to use vz nav or nothing (or esternal gps)...... the phone is very hackable and i do love that (verzon software give you access to the phones internal files.)
woo hoo you just encouraged me to get this. i almost got the Env touch but this kicks its ass

i didnt say iPhone "Killer"
I said ALTERNATIVE
It is a great phone and has a lot of fun things you can do with it. Glad I got it :D
Cheers !
So should I buy this phone??? I'm getting off the family plan and I'm going to an individual plan. It looks nice!
Hey thanks a bunch! I'm going in to buy one tomorrow and I send a lot of photo messages and that was kind of a deciding factor :)
You can get it for $14.99 if you order it off of the verizon website. And no dealing with rebates at all. I think they're pushing out the old stock and getting ready for the Omnia 2.

A very good job mate! Now I am going to buy omina my self.

Get the storm, the touchscreen I hear makes to sooooooo much more friendly to use
Omnia only $200 now. Dropped by $50 for no apparent reason. Nice. Glad I've waited.
This is just my opinion.
love this thing - sent from my omnia i910
Oh shït... I didn't expected that 2.5 mm jack thing... O_o
"which is kind of cute" made me lol hard
WHAT?!
i was doing a shit load of research on it today and was so excited for it to come out for the US.
what is your source on it not being releasing to the US
How do you like it overall? My contract is up with Sprint soon and I was considering Verizon. I was considering this phone, but if it's a pain I don't want it...
I honestly don't get how you can remove the battery cover so fast. I just got mine today and I'm too chicken to put pressure on it. xD
Is it just me or the touch screen is not very sensitive and responsive? You have to tap really strong to make it stop the music on the video, for example.
Also, I thought it was really slowmo when he moved the widgets on the screen.
How's the battery?
Im thinking of buying this phone.
How much will you rate the Omnia???
Please respone, very important :)
I see this is Verizon's version of the Eternity...I wonder how they compare..?
Through Verizon, the provider that has this phone, you have to purchase a data plan for something like $25 or $30/month.
this is certainly the best smart phone out there! holy shit
omnia is better than the dare. i have 1 and my friend has the dare. dare is simpler to use, and omnia is a little more confusing, but the omnia is great once you get used to it. the touch keyboard is amazing.
When does this hit Canada!!!!!!!!! Ive been waiting and waiting!
I prefer the HTC too but do you find that you have trouble with pressing things cause the screen is smaller?
Im impressed with that! Cheers for that review..may actually get one :)
ok im a bit confused ........which one should i buy? samsung pixon or the samsung omnia?....omnia is pretty expensive tho.....is it worth the money?
reply fast!!!... im gonna get my phone today!
Oh and to clarify, you only need the data plan for the first month. Then you can cancel it. So i guess yes, you can have the phoen w/o the data plan, but then you couldnt use any of the phones features.
definitly Omnia. I work for verizon and I can tell you that Blackberry Storm OS is very BUGGY, Dare is very responsive to touch but limited to its OS, Omnia however has the ability to run thousands of custom apps thanks to Windows Mobile and it comes with finger friendly apps which work very well like touchplayer to replace windows media player. It also has other apps to replace internet browser, photo applications, video editing tool, business card reader, FM radio, podcast, rss reader, TV out.
geezzz thanks mate...i was havin a hard time choosing b/n samsung omnia or the iphone 3G. i wld love to have the omnia!! but whats the difference b/n omnia i900 and omnia i910?? i mean whats the improvement?
OMNIA FOR LIFE
I'm having trouble deciding, the Omnia or the Storm, i hear the storm is very glichy and has alot of problems, and i've heard very few complaints about the omnia...
Can you send picture messages and like sound clips with this phone to others?
I'm looking at buying a new phone and this ones caught my eye!
screens with vertical portion much greater then the horizontal one, like in omnia, nokia tube etc can be little uncomfortable for video viewing. best ratio can be seen in htc touch hd and blackberry storm
i am in love.
i love verizon
:)
@lasamigas97 Because it does. I'm on my second one, and it needs replacing after only having it for a few months. I'm holding off on that because I can get a new phone in Feb. 2011. Otherwise, I would cash in on the warranty replacement (yup- still covered under warranty-related issues). My major beef with it is the totally unresponsive and inaccurate screen. Makes it impossible to do anything. I have to use the optical mouse to get anything done and that takes forever.
i feel you. we share the same sentiments. (and despair)
I was checking deal sites to find a coupon for Verizon but came across another link that listed it at $199.99 instead of the regular $319.99 that was listed on the site (now $269.99). I called Verizon and inquired about it was able to get it ordered over the phone instead of on the website. Best thing is I still get the $70MIR.
Great phone, but viewing text message history on it is rather difficult because you have to scroll back so many times in one conversation history.
Is there any way to view convo history on the computer? Or anything I can do to make it easier to view on the phone itself? Thank you
im pretty sure it has the app store. im not sure on the wifi. im getting one tomorrow so ill let ya know :)
i have the telus version, but the verizon version does have a sim card i believe
