You can use a regular mini usb cable on the HTC Touch diamond. The port on the underside has an extra pin to enable audio when using headphones, thats why it appears a different shape. Thanks
The HTC proprietary connector is a standard mini-USB connector. However, it has audio/video out on the other side of the little tab on the inside. It's shaped different so the headphones/video cable can be plugged in there, but not to a standard mini-USB connector. Keeps people from saying "Hey, this will work on my MP3 player!" and finding out it doesn't.
Noah I love you and miss you. I vividly remember watching this video as a kid. I wish you would make a come back. Now and days everyone Talks about Tobey McGuire doing a Spider-Man crossover with Tom Holland.... All I want to see is a Noah Kravitz Crossover with MKBHD.
Watching this in 2018 brings back such good memories of watching your videos to help me decide what trades or phone swaps I was going to make. You’re the original reviewer.
I just want to say thank you for what you do because there's no way most cellular customers would be able to make a firm decision on what phone to get without people like you displaying various different phones and the functionality's of the phones. So once again on behalf of everyone who views your videos to help determine what phone is best for them thank you!
dude!you really rock!I've just tried plugging my old mini-USB lying on my desk into the Touch Diamond and it WORKS. ->charging,syncing,data transfer...everything works! Untill now I thought it was the phones biggest weakness, but now with this problem is sorted out i'm a happy man! :) Thanks for your helpful comment, specially because the Diamonds connector is proclaimed as "propietary" by many sources while its NOT, its a common and widely available mini-USB... cheers
@DahRecruit the iPhone is first party software ONLY, not a smartphone by conventional terms, being that a smartphone is a platform device that allows software to be installed.
I don't know if anyone else already posted this, so sorry if I'm repeating. But the dimond as well as all HTC Touch phones DO SUPPORT any mini-usb cable. I for one already lost my miniusb cable and I use a standard one from a WD Passport HDD. Besides the shape(wich is compatible with any mini usb cable) they added 3 extra "pins" for audio on the ubs port.
Depending on which version you buy, it with either 8 or 16GB internal storage. You also have a slot for a MicroSD on both versions; you potentially could have 32GB of space for data! (16GB internal + 16GB micro-HCSD) The phone is programmed to see both storage spaces simultaneously; you have to choose which storage unit you want to use, but it's easy to switch back and forth. Older-high-end phones had two slots for storage, a Compact Flash (CF) and SD.
You can't use the USB cable that comes with the HTC Touch Diamond with anything else but you can use any miniB to USB cable with it. It fits and works just like with their cable...
i got a question before im egtting the iphone 3g since it seems liek its alot cheaper then first gen iphone well my question is i need mac stuff in my pc like itunes or any othyer apple things im a windows user and i dont go to mac for a phone
Remark: It is not correct that for the HTC you need a *special* mini-usb cable as stated at about 6:00, you can use a standard cable as you get it in every computer store. The unlike-shaped jack is just because there are HTC-specific headsets which look similar to the mini-usb-connector.
it really depends on you, whether you prefer a better camera or a phone that has a 3.5mm headset jack. but for me, i'd prefer the Omnia, windows mobile UI, 5 megapixel camera, and widgets customisation. but hey that's my opinion. so yeah, hope that helped you decide
no. you actually can't do an extension with a new phone you will have to pay full price for the brand new phone which is an outrageous price. sometimes if you get lucky at the corporate office you can get a one year contract price IF you have a year left on your contract. hope that helps
i think so too :) i've had mine for about two weeks and i'm really astounded at how well it performs, although Apple's build quality is something to keep an eye on ...
can you please do a reveiw of the verizon wireless XV6900?! i love waatching your reveiws and i'm looking into getting that phone. there are other reveiws for that phone but i like your the best! thank you!
one of my good friends use to work for t-mobile as a phone tester and she use to walk around with 40phones in her pocket testing all of em on durability glitches and improvements, only problem was finding them when one rang i remember she had the razr 5mos before it came out :D
you really help me to choose a bday present. I was not sure... I have got iPhone 3g myself but would not buy it anymore... Like it but believe the other ones have got better functions but less ''funky and cute'' stuff than iPhone. HTC it is ... Thank you!
That's not so silly - the HTC cable provides the same functionality as a standard USB mini-B plug (power and data connections) PLUS extra connections for audio (analogue) that aren't part of the USB (digital) standard. What is a little daft (though made up for by the splitter you mention) is that there is no standard headphone socket - something that in this day and age I would expect a manufacturer to consider as essential in multimedia device design.
Im gonna get the HTC Diamond cuz its assuring,if the omnia or iphone fall and the touch screen breaks u hav no way to use it but the diamond has extra buttons so u dont hav to rely on the touch screen so much
My HTC takes regukar USB, but some functions is lost with regular USB, not clear why. After contacting HTC-support center they told me that this is known by HTC. The charging and PC-connection works, but some functions like music outout to speakers is lost. However, there is an adaptor that can be used as a HUB to connect 2,5 mm, 3,5 mm cables and also split charger and headphone wich is not standard on the pfhone... wich really is silly. Other than that, I love my HTC Diamond.
first ask verizon if theyll allow that and if they do go to any (at least most will) wireless shop that carries international/unlocked phones and theyll do it for you but you may not be able to use many features like the music store and some apps (u can still download 3rd party ones)
@valkyrieXX uhh... super lcd is actually 50% samsung, 50% sony lol. super amoled is awesome, and hummingbird is nice too. when i said "cheap plastics" i meant cheap LOOKING plastics, im sorry but i just hate fingerprints on my tech. the 45nm snapdragons actually have pretty good battery life. "generic snapdragon" is an interesting phrase, since both snapdragon and hummingbird are based on the same "generic " ARM cortex processor.
Can't wait until HTC's phones hit US carriers. If you didn't know they already have the "HTC Dream" on the way to T-Mobile, it's just moments away from a phone hitting Verizon or AT&T
I'm the same, I like to have control and be able to do stuff but all the win mobile phones I've tried out responded like crap and weren't as controllable as I'd like (namely the web browser zoom on the touch - 2 zoom settings: in and out; zoom in is still not zoomed enough for the small screen). Just because I didn't like these win mobile phones doesn't mean I adore the iphone because I don't, it was just less frustrating trying to do the things it can do - but yea there's a ton it doesn't do.
The touch pro only has 512MB of internal storage, but it has an expansion slot that supports 16GB cards. The touch pro is also a little thicker, but other than that, they are identical.
Also, HTC phone is smaller and it easy to fit in your pocket, get the black color, it's nice to carry it to the club. HTC is da bomb, and the cold thing about is that I don't find that much of people carrying the same phone as I have. :)
I still own an OMNIA and the most coolest thing is the battery, the speaker that is so loud, and ofcourse there are so many apps available for it.The OMNIA can run Android OS.My opinion is that is still a wery good phone.
im getting the omnia for christmas and iv messed around with them all the time there really fun take really nice video and pixes and very finger friendly i reccomend it to anyone
I got a choice between Nokie E63 and Samsung omnia , Whihc should i get I am familiar wiht nokia, but omnia is a differnt type, but does it last, and is omnia slow
Google "Iphone is not a smartphone". By technical definition the first releases were not smartphones as they didn't allow third party apps without jailbreaking, even 2.0 is limited in it's capabilities as in MMS, copy paste and other functions. 3.0 has added this but still falls short of the capabilities of a WinMo device. The Iphone has a nice interface and some cool apps, but I can put an Iphone theme on the diamond and it will do the same thing an Iphone does.
maybe the word will spread and it might happen and this is why i think the iphone needs a pull out key board like the samsung glyde 1. when you walking its hard to touch the right letter because your moving 2. the keyboard would be and as big as the iphone and people would love it
You CAN use ANY mini USB attachment with the HTC Diamond or Touch Pro even though it looks different. I use standard mini USB connectors all the time with my HTC Touch Pro. This review isnt very accurate. Yo0u forgot to mention that the HTC has a Micro SD Slot. You are correct in saying that HTC is 3rd. The HTC Touch Flow 3D is horrible. I disabled it on my Touch Pro
all phones have strong points what means they have to have some weaker points.. its up to you to diside what phone you want to site you best for phoning for you. texting, browesing, music,pictures.. so its up to you.
You've changed what you had said, you said the iphones camera sucks(probably because all to know is from the specs), and the iPhone doesn't jut have double tap zoom you can pinch in and out which is the Easyest way to zoom know to man, and with gloves I only just put mine on and started using the phone, so it's not just if they heat up, and anyway how often are you going to be using it with gloves on? Most
"...so you can't use a regular USB cable on it..." WRONG! Anyway, I would stick to iPhone 3G, it will have loads of new updates including Tomtom GPS, and more programs, at the moment, the fastest phone.
2021, for that retro feeling, loved seeing this back in the day.

It's funny watching these videos now, because of how much phones have come and the big features here are pretty obsolete now.
Funny reading this comment 7 years later

Why would you do that?
You can make phone calls, send texts, take pictures with all of them? *****

so yeah, hope that helped you decide

Yes! Should be announced in early June :)
2019 ?????
yeah unfortunately
very good detailed review. i like it. but why it ends suddenly?

I love this video because i was having a really tough time choosing between the iphone and the htc touch diamond.
Great vid! 5/5
HTC Diamonds mini USB on the bottom, like all HTC devices, despite being rounded, it still takes a standard mini-usb cable in it.
one of my good friends use to work for t-mobile as a phone tester and she use to walk around with 40phones in her pocket testing all of em on durability glitches and improvements, only problem was finding them when one rang i remember she had the razr 5mos before it came out :D

htc is with at&t
the fuze and tilt are both from htc as im sure are some other phones of at&t

i must say i have an iPhone 3G and was very disappointed that it was only 2.0mega pixals but it is a really really good quality!

Noah made Phonedog! These were the good days! lol at the screen sizes!
yes it DOES!!! look @ all reviews and specifications!!!
Sorry, not sure if anyone mentioned this, but I'm able to use a standard mini USB cable in my Diamond... for charging and sync.
really thats good because i really want to get it since my contract expires on new years any other good verizon phones?
you use a mini usb to charge en concent the htc to you pc the difrent shaped plug is only used for the head phones.
it depends on what sort of feature you're comparing them
yes you can use the mini usb plug on the touch.
You can use a mini usb cord with the Diamond...I have one and I use a USB non proprietary...
really good review dude, very helpful

depends on user care. the same people who make the hardware make the software. this phone works seamlessly.

your correct that you can use any mini usb attachment but the Diamond doesnt have Micro SD.
im getting the omnia for christmas and iv messed around with them all the time there really fun take really nice video and pixes and very finger friendly i reccomend it to anyone
I got the iphone 3G,but do you know where I could go to get that done??
iphone kicks ass by far
btw what does jailbreak mean???
I got a choice between Nokie E63 and Samsung omnia , Whihc should i get

Hey i am having a really tough time choosing between the iphone 3g and the samsung omnia. any help would be much appreciated.
thanks
i wanna get a full touch screen phone what is the cheapest for rogers or the at&t. and without a plan.
What about the Samsung F480 or they call it the Tocco.. How is that in compare to the other touch phones?
Dude! How abt HTC Diamond with iphone os 3.0??I bet it would make it better then it already is.
It has 3g but that isn't enabled in us yet.... This feels strange knowing I used that phone.
dang the Omnia is like an N95/96 but touchscreen, so many features
Wow phones are getting smaller again - which one should i get? Help!!!
do you mind i ask you why? because i was going to buy one
ok, i am getting a new phone and i need to pick one really kwik for my contract, which one do u guys think is the best and why--any ideas??
Att may be a little faster but vz is larger therefore its better because u get more 3g in more places
"...so you can't use a regular USB cable on it..."
WRONG!
The socket is so designed that the regular mini-B USB plug fits perfectly (thus allowing for standard mini-USB cables to be used for PC connectivity and charging) but the proprietary plug on HTC's cables will only work with their own devices.
A point I would have thought pertinent is that although it has the greatest screen area (and arguably the best touch-screen) the iPhone has the lowest resolution of the three.
i find ur videos relli helpful thankyou
It is the same with a little bit of features added...
You should change the display to stay bright while doing presentations, otherwise this is helpful.
if you look at the speakers gestures closely you see, that he actually tries to do iphone gestures on the other phones, as well. and they don't respond well to those gestures.
so indirectly he showed a clear winner in my opinion.
i have the htc touch 2, its a really amazing cell, dosnt freeze as much as black berry's, & other touch screen phones. in the video he saies its like a mini usb but diff & u cant use as a mini usb but u can, i use a Motorola mini usb charger/ps3 controller cord/even tom tom 12V cig lighter in my car. i can use these cords for charging or transfer info. So im glad i got the htc, ohh its very rugged, ive dropped it on concrete stairs, in a slush & salt slurry on the side of the road many times.
iPhone has a few pretty strong downsides (expensive, locked to AT&T and their own technologies, etc), but based on the video the iPhone looks the most responsive to touch. The reviewer's gestures were frequently ignored on the other phones requiring multiple corrections. Something like that would drive me nuts in day-to-day use.
do you know if u can change the background to your own picture on the omnia?
oh ok. I thought because of the odd shaped connector that it wouldn't work. Just one thing, if i wanted to use regualr 3.5mm headphones, should i get a HTC propriatory connector converter? or a mini usb convertor?
thankss
Maybe not. But still, the sound does not travel through at standard USB from the phone to a speaker or other external device with a standard USB. The proprietary plug got an extra pin for audio wich the standard USB does not have,
Another silly thing is that I cant work out how to get the text messages to the comuter to print them. Annoying. But that might be me being silly. ;-)
Probably Omnia right now, but eventually the will updates the Storm will be a very efficient phone. My Storm is coming soon, ordered it monday. =D
i was goin to get the omnia in two days, can u get it without the "data plan" thing?
I saw one of these had a function
where you flip the phone upside down, when its ringing, which of these does that ?
& it will turn it Mute, just by flipping it
Will the HTC touch HD also have that function & does the Samsung Omnia have it too ?
Thxs for reply :)
Anyone who types fast is going to hate it be because you're going to have to wait for the screen to pop back up before it'll be responsive to the next character. If you're a slow typer you won't notice it.
It is the best but what do you do if you don't want att crappy service?
*Samsung Omnia (best windows mobile phone, best PDA).
*iPhone 3G (best multimedia and touch screen phone, with loads of good applications).
*HTC Touch Diamond (not worth buying it, really slow... good for job as PDA).
Anyway, I would stick to iPhone 3G, it will have loads of new updates including Tomtom GPS, and more programs, at the moment, the fastest phone.
how is it? good or bad?
i didn't really catch that.
wich of those phones uses a regular mp3 earphoneplug?
