    I have just purchased the 55ltr dual zone Brass Monkey fridge for $499 & i am impressed with it so far. The unit i purchased also has the ability to fit an internal 15Ah battery & also has an external solar input to run/charge the fridge. It also has rear wheels & extendable handle to move it around & the lid is reversible. I have fitted an external blanket to help with any heat problems & so far it has performed great. I think for the money they are about the best out there & i am more than happy with mine...highly recommend

    Glad I found this review cause I was going to buy the brass monkey but have made up my mind to buy the CFX Dometic 25 L with the cover . At the end of the day ,you buy a fridge to keep drinks and food cold no matter what the weather , who wants a fridge that struggles to keep your drinks cold when it is hot ? Cheers 🍻

    How much would a thermal cover help improve the insulation/condensation?

    • @NorthOz
      @NorthOz  9 месяцев назад

      I think it depends where you live and what the quality of the cover is like. If there is direct sun then I’d say it’s worth it. But for ambient temperature and humid conditions, I’d save my money and buy a fridge with better internal insulation

    I bought a 74 litre brass monkey only because it was on special at half price at $270. I turned it on at 2:30 PM and put two, two litre bottles of water in the fridge and set it to -20 deg C. The fridge ran all night on the mains power adaptor in an air-conditioned room. The room temp was 26 deg C. At 6 Am in the morning the bottles were still not frozen solid. I placed a thermometer inside the fridge/freezer at 6:00 AM and after 30 minutes the thermometer was only reading -2 deg. Whilst an engle fridge costs over 8 times the price for a similar size fridge, an engle would have frozen the bottles solid. So I guess if you pay peanuts you get monkeys or brass monkeys in this case.

      It’s true. As a fridge I think they are worthwhile in less tropical climates. As a freezer, I’d look elsewhere

      I just bought a 50L Brass monkey and did the same test with ice cube trays. I set the freezer to -15 in the afternoon (ambient was ~ 25 degrees) and the next morning the ice was frozen solid. Worked like a treat!

      More - I have tried several thermometers to measure the temp inside the unit and set the unit to -20 deg C the best I could measure was -11.5 deg c at the lowest point under a bottle of frozen water. So your comments are fine to make “ice cubes”. Frankly I would like to hear from other owners that have taken the time to measure the internal Temp, maybe I have a faulty unit. I think if advertised at -20 you should expect -20 Deg C. Just for reference my upright domestic fridge freezer stays at -19 deg C and it is 15 years old.
