- It was finally time for the first proper 4x4 event this year.
we brought our Unimogs to Experience island in Veldhoven for a day off-roading with the ANVT 4wd club.

Hello from Switzerland, well, the first 60 seconds, something immediately occurred to me: if you get a speeding fine on the motorway, it's not a penalty but an award 😛It's great that these vehicles are still fun for the older generation, especially since, unlike more modern vehicles, they consist of pure (and robust) mechanics. The great sound of the Unimog, always a feast for the ears.
With such vehicles you learn to drive properly, off the road, which can also be helpful as a woman.
Great video, which also pleased me, as I'm over 60 years old, is the funny hood ornament (no, that certainly wasn't "Emily", but what is it more precise?) on one of the accompanying vehicles (the Jeep?).

The little guy on the hood of the Jeep is "Gaston Lagaffe" a figure from a Belgium comic.
And you are right, noting better than the sound of that beautiful inline 6 engine, the old machines have a top speed of about 95km/h. but it takes a wile to get to that speed, and we luckily didn't get an award for speed thus far :)

tom great video. did you convert your mog to 12 volt or did you just pull 12 volt out of one battery. are you running the fuel selector valve? My 404 seems to have an air leak which limits power and response. I think lol i have decided to install a 24 volt pump filter and fuel regulator and also removing the selector valve and installing a 10mm 3 way union with isolation valves. i was thinjking about drilling and tapping both fuel tank train plugs and connecting them with a fuel line so bot tanks will communicate and show the quantity. Am I mad lol
Thanks! No we run the Mogs on 24 volts, we only use a power converter for some accessories that require 12volt.
yes, we run the original fuel selector valve.
A electric fuel pump does have its advantage over the mechanical fuel pump.
Joining the fuel tanks is something we personally wouldn't do, extra lines that can leak and if you manage to puncture one of the fuel tanks they both will drain in instead of only one.
Is that typical, the guide tape, the containment, for off road-ing in Europe? Still looked like fun.
here in the Netherlands we have verry few places to go off-roading. most of these events are on locations like dirt tracks and sush. and to avoid damaging the tracks and nature they mostly set out a course with multiple tracks and difficulties. so the tape is indeed a common site here.
@@ArmyTruckTom You would probably be amazed at the sheer number of miles you can drive, logging roads and 4x4 trails, you could explore just in my home state of Washington. You could be out there for weeks and not see a single bit of tape! We even have a mapped out off road route N to S with very minimal paving, about 950km. ridebdr.com/wabdr/

Ik ben ook aan het rondkijken om een 404 te kopen, zijn er specifieke dingen waar ik best op let ? Zoals roest of andere veel voorkomende mechanische slijtage/problemen? Alvast bedankt!
Roest is zeker een punt om op te letten, voornaamste hij de cabine onder de grill en bij de deur posten.
Hier zitten holle ruimtes en kokerbalken achter het plaatstaal en daar vormt zich vaak roest.
Bij een radio bak zul je ook goed op roest moeten letten rond de deur posten en de onderste rand van de bak, vanwege de zelfde reden.
Voor de rest even inspecteren of de motor netjes loopt en er geen overmatige olie lekt bij de motor, versnellingsbak, diff's, en portaal assen.
Veel voorkomende probleem zijn lekkende carburateur, lekkende brandstof pomp en een gescheurde uitlaat spruitstuk.
Dit is wat ik moet zo snel even kan bedenken, beste advies wat ik je kan geven is; neem je tijd bij het kijken en kruip er over, onder en in.
Maar hou er rekening mee dat het autos zijn waar je altijd wel iets aan het versleutelen bent.

Waar is dit terrein? In Belgie kan je vrijwel nergens met een 404 gaan rijden.
Dit was in Veldoven, met de ANVT 4x4 vereniging. maar dat had de titel misschien ook wel al verklapt 😜
