I was given the name Shark Bait when I was 15 and spent two weeks on the AT for my first ever backpacking trip. I was HIGHLY anxious and heard a stick break one night and a friend shoved (nudged) me towards the noise and said “shark bait ooh ha ha” (like in finding nemo). Yelling “shark bait ooh ha ha” became a recurrent theme whenever there was a strange noise. I got a good laugh and was able to get through my fears. Almost 12 years later the name has stuck. My dog’s name is Karen after her apparently *striking* resemblance to the cougar/mountain lion in Talladega nights
I have never done any long distance hikes, but if I did, I'd likely name myself VanGogh, due to the fact that I had my left ear removed about 15 years ago (2 time melanoma survivor). I just feel like people would end up calling me VanGogh because it's just obvious. And I'm ok with that.
Another one is folks will use same trail name on multiple hikes so if you did PCT first you may take that name to the AT. But I like this idea as in real world you may have 5 johns and on trail you may have to describe him every time and if 2 looked similiar then it could get real fun.
Another good video. It took me 2 months to take a name on the PCT, the ones I was getting were dumb. I liked Flamethrower and it stuck (it's related to my loud, tiny stove 🔥). Question: would you consider taking on another name on the PCT or will you keep Lookout?
I think flamethrower is badass. Were you using a BRS stove? Those things sound like a rocket launch. I'm going to stick with Lookout on the PCT. I have grown to like it.

That's awesome! I love the cool story behind your trail name.

That would be so unique. I love it. I don't love the fact that you suffered from melanoma though. Glad that you're ok now.
I've been Dodge since I was 18 years old. I'm 45 now. It is pretty much part of my identity.
Dodging a trail-specific name and keeping the nickname 😅
Glad i watched this. I was kinda anxious about it. Figured if i named myself id end up as . "Dark Knight Magneto Alpha Wolf" 🤷🤣🤣🤣
There's no reason that you can't take that name anyway, DNMW. Call yourself DMx for short 😊
🤣🤣 was completely joking. It was the most obnoxious ridiculous name I could think of🤷😅
i got my trail name after meditating and aligning my chakras. sometimes that's how the universe reaches out to you
Bestowed by the universe. What an honor 😂

I've never knowingly met anyone that had different trail names for different trails. I'm sticking with Lookout.
Ahh the its the old cowboy gunslinger, I was famous on the west coast. Now im Bob the farmer.
TBH i kinda like the new place, new name.

I use an MSR Micro Rocket 🚀 similar to BRS (it’s discontinued).
My dad went by Third Tooth, he has a middle tooth so it looks like he had three front teeth
That's an awesome one.
I don't have a trail name but if I named myself I'd be Giardia Joe so that no one would know I'd given myself the name.
No one will want to drink at the same water sources as you 😳
@@Adventure_Together Getting all the best water to myself. Haha.
What's the story behind your trail name?
