    Mine - a dwarf Cavendish - grew a whopping 20 centimeters in lenght in only 12 days (stem). It had a cigar when I bought it, and by now it has become a large leaf and a new cigar has shown up that is reaching already 22 centimeters! It's amazing how fast these plants grow when you give them good conditions to grow!

    This is awesome, Thanks! Maybe i can Get my banana baby to thrive now.
    But Im confused on the sunlight part, because the previous video i watched said no direct sunlight, but alot if indirect light. And you recommend direct sunlight. Which is correct?
    Also one important thing you forgot to mention is humidity. If they are going to stand in a southfacing window in direct sunlight, it is super important that they have enough humitidy so they dont dry out.

    • @wudgee
      @wudgee 2 года назад

      I read on one video that the roots need to be kept warm in winter. I’ve sent off for one of those waterproof heat mats for plants and going to use that next winter. My farmhouse isn’t that warm in winter and my plant is not looking very happy. I put it in the warm sun yesterday to help it and I’ve put it in a bigger pot. Hope yours does well if you have one. I think the heat pad will help.

    The easiest banana plant to grow is the musa basjoo. It is very cold hardy, looks very cool/impressive as it gets huge - anybody can grow this. It is an ornamental variety(no edible fruit) so unless you live in zone 8 or warmer, its the way to go. Generally planted in the ground(vs. potted) in mid spring and is even hardy enough to survive & return after an Alaskan winter. And like many banana plants, this variety not only gets bigger each year/season, it also multiplies and is easy to separate, move & replant.

    Hi Larry, I recently purchased a banana, I think a Chiquita. I live in Toronto, Canada and I obviously have the plant indoors. The leafs are turning brown and look like they are dying. I use a hydrometer to check when I need to water. I had it 3 weeks and it still said it was wet. My hydrometer is working fine on all my other plants. I decided to take it out of the pot it was in and the roots were very wet. I made up a combination of vermiculite and a very good potting soil. It is not helping the few leaves continue to die?!? Any suggestions? Thank-you

    I hate that everywhere I look they say a lot of fertilizer, this doesn't help me at all I don't know if they mean every couple days every week month what is a lot and how much is a lot. I live in Tennessee and decided to try growing these I have 2 that I bought. I put them in a 1 gal with drain holes, sandy soil with perlite. I picked up 10-10-10 because I found that it was the most talked about everywhere I read. How much and how often should I give it. I have read from every watering (which is everyday i guess) to 1 time a month. Can anyone help me please before I kill these plants and have to start over.

    • @ricardocarrasquillo2506
      @ricardocarrasquillo2506 9 лет назад +4

      Hi from Puerto Rico.If is a ornamental banana plant you can use the 10-10-10 fertilazer or 15-05-10 because 15 of nitrogen will make more leaf. But if is the banana that you can eat you need granulated fertilizer high in potasium 10-05-20 and better if have 3 of magnesium. High potasium make more and bigger bananas. If you cant get this granulated fertilizer get something closer to this specification...You can add about 4 ounces of granulated fertilizer every month until the plant start flowering.(will take 8month to a year)...or a pound of granulated fertilizer every 3 to 4 month.(ex.planted and add some fertilizer then at the 4 month then 8 month and it will flower). My personal sugestion if adding 4 to 7 ounces monthly. Do not add the fertilizer closer to the plant, make a circle around the plant with the fertilizer 1 to 2 feet away of the plant.If get closer can burn and kill the plant. If you plant in a counteiner.you will need a big one,more that 5 galons and just add a little of fertilizer 1 ounce montly or less. About watering they dont need much watering(but for ex. if is in couteiner you will need to watered every day a little because i will dry faster and you will noted in the leaf,bending down)If planted in gruond less watering just every week will be good. Important... banana is a tropical and subtropical plant but good luck and hace fun.Sorry about muy inglish i speak spanish. I hope this inf. will help you. The ornamental have seeds in the banana but the one we buy in the grosery it reproduce only from the roots or genetily.

    • @navidfarkhondehpay1142
      @navidfarkhondehpay1142 4 года назад +2

      You can't really grow bananas from seed if you want edible fruit. Sometimes you can get bananas that have seeds that are few and far between, and they can be delicious, but they aren't what you get from the supermarket, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, even with those types of bananas, you're better off buying a plant or asking a banana growing friend for a sucker (one of the shoots that comes up on the side of the plant, that's mainly how bananas reproduce), since germinating banana seeds is a real pain. Hope this helped!

    My method is far simpler friend. I simply peel the banana, cut banana into slices parallel with seeds, promptly mash. You then get soil, pH regulated and storr bought is best but you can jusg dig out a patch of dirt from out back. You then proceed to dig a 4 inch hole in the center of whatever container your using, at least 4 inches for the seeds to root and take to the soil. The next step is the most important. Fertalizer, but my advice is to avoid store-bought altogether, take a righteous bowel movement in a bowl, I say a bowl because before you apply it to the soil your gonna probably want to carefully mash it into a very fine mashed potato consistency, whipped even. You then spread it above the soil and seeds, and wait 6 weeks and you will have the freshest, by far the most deliciously delectable naners you've ever eaten and ill put my last dollar on that

    • @confusionatitsbest
      @confusionatitsbest Год назад

      You then promptly eat poonanas

    • @confusionatitsbest
      @confusionatitsbest Год назад

      The most important thing in regards to fertalizing your plant, goes into what you eat prior to the bm.i suggest tacos eith a side of avocado seeds, freshly cut grass, bananas, to give the poo a fresh banana scent, and lots of red meat. 💩 🍌

    Why would you recommend going with a cavendish variety? You can find cavendish bananas in the supermarket! Why not suggest people try a better and new variety like a dwarf namwa or something else that tastes way better!
