  • Your scan tool is a lot more than a code reader and a means to turning off that annoying MIL light. It is your link to the ECM and what it sees and what it does.
In this edition of the Trainer, Pete will show you how he approaches a drivablity concern using Global OBD II, and how you can find out if there is a DTC stored - even if the MIL is off!Be sure and SUBSCRIBE to our channel so you'll be the first to know when new information is available!

When you have to fix your own vehicle that gives you more incentive to fix it right. Thank you for posting this video.

my 05 Acura TSX went into limp mode outta nowhere (drove to Lowe's hardware, no prob. when i went to leave it was pouring rain & I noticed it wasn't accelerating & its had a constant U0107 DTC since). i followed service manual instructions for this DTC which were mostly voltage, continuity/resistance checks & all were normal. replaced TAC module, no fix. I've erased codes with my cheap Bluetooth obd2 tool but it never goes away. since this is my only transportation I've HAD to drive it IN LIMP MODE on occasion to a nearby grocery store. i did additional voltage & resistance tests the other day at the APP sensor & it's wiring(normal) and didn't feel like i got it connected back tight enough & sure enough when i checked codes it also had one for each APP sensor plus a U0155 (F CAN malfunction, loss communication with gauge control module) the gauges are working however & i read something about CANbus systems doing these counts.. transmitting &/or receiving and if either gets to 127 then that node goes into error mode. that would make sense if the gauge module was supposed to receive data from TAC and wasn't but IDK if that's truly the case here. this car uses ISO 9141-2 protocol so no CAN lines to DLC. it appears I'm gonna need bidirectional ability at this point. I'm considering a DLC to laptop adapter.
I'm financially unable to take this car to a shop or buy expensive tools. i hope you'll take the time to give me some advice on how you'd proceed in this position. before this prob came up i knew nothing about cars or electronics but have since learned quite a bit.. but there's still plenty i don't know tho. oh yeah and do you know if any source that would have a wiring diagram of how all the modules are connected to the CAN lines for 05 Acura TSX? i can't even find anything showing where the CAN lines run although i do know of one connector location that is a direct CAN connection (I'd just rather not tear out my entire dash to find where that wiring leads)
i apologize for this lengthy msg but I'm in desperate need of guidance & there's a lot to be said about my problem 😕

@Cristopher Reeves that's strictly because of the Cummins engine. I'm talking cars and trucks late 90's and newer

Sorry for the late reply - on the road this week! We don't have anything specifically targeted to the smog test. Check with BAR to see if they can recommend any resources. At the least, study up on L1! Good luck!

Sorry for the late reply - on the road this week. Mode 10 codes can only be "cleared" by the ECM.

I think your mistaken. If the ecm is reducing fuel then the engine is running rich, which you state in the end of the video. You completely contradict yourself. Please explain if you disagree.

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand what statement you're referring to. Can you tell me when in the video the issue occurs?
