    Another good video. It answered a few questions I had. I have been told with my ASi2600MC Pro OSC camera not to check either 'Optimize Master Darks' and not to include BIAS. Just Darks, Flat/Darks, and Flats. Is this your understanding?

    Great video mate, thanks for sharing. Very clear approach into explaining every detail. Just a quick question, where would load up dark flats? Will they be auto detected? Thanks

    • @VisibledarkAstro
      @VisibledarkAstro  3 года назад +1

      The flat darks get loaded under the darks tab. Along with your dark frames. WBPP2 will know what they are. You no longer have to check off that you're using flat darks.

    Another great PixInsight tutorial. Love batch preprocessing, it is such a time saver. Now to figure out why all my images come out black and white event though I'm following all the same steps I used to; CFA, setup for DSLR raw files, etc. Even restacking of old images are coming out grayscale suddenly. Not sure if it was a faulty install of an update, but hopefully I can figure it out soon.

    • @VisibledarkAstro
      @VisibledarkAstro  3 года назад

      I don't think I show in a video loading flat darks. But you simple load them into the "darks" tab in WBPP 2 just like you would standard dark frames. The script will automatically know they are flat darks.

    Shawn ... I continue to go back and again watch several of your great videos. This one in particular has been my primary source of info on how to work WBPP. I have tried to follow your work flow exactly, but am not getting the same results. For some reason, I keep getting "Failed to measure" errors on my subs (FITS) from my ASI294MC Pro OSC. Any chance you could give me a few tips? Thanks.

    Maybe Im overlooking something but, how do you WBPP Multiple exposures and use cosmetic correction based master darks for each exposure set?

  • @stevewilson1935
    @stevewilson1935 3 года назад +1

    The tip about making sure Master Darks/Flats have 'Master' in the file name was a life saver - I tried WBPP using my existing named masters ( without the word Master in the file name) and WBPP singularly failed.

    Thank you Shawn for the video. I have been doing Blink and Subframe selector before loading the frame into WBPP. I have not used the "Subframe Weighting" in WBPP. Can you skip the SFS if using the SW in the script ? and can you comment on any adjustments in the Weighting Parameters under SW.

    Seems if you didnt generate the master files in Pixi, they dont show up as master flats or darks with 2.0. I have master flats/darks/dark flats generated from AstroPixel and unless you rename the file to include master and dark or flat in the file name it doesnt know to call it the master file.

    So, if using Dark-Flats, do you just load them under "Add Darks"? (and put nothing in Bias)

    • @VisibledarkAstro
      @VisibledarkAstro  3 года назад

      Yes dark flats go under darks tab. And no need for bias frames if using dark flats.

  • @alexgti9345
    @alexgti9345 3 года назад +1

    Hey Shawn and thanks for this video. I'm still confused what to use between biases and flat frames with my ASI2600MC. Do I have to use dark frame optimization? only dark frame? biases and dark frames? It's a little bit tricky and I just can't see the differences in the final master after trying all these solutions

    • @anthonyexmouth
      @anthonyexmouth 3 года назад

      Not sure about the 2600 but my 294 needs to be processed with Flat-Darks and not bias frames. Using bias frames doesn't work well with the really short exposure times.

    • @alexgti9345
      @alexgti9345 3 года назад

      @@anthonyexmouth ok thanks but what do you call really short exposures? I usually work shoot at 300s , and sometimes up to 1000s

    • @anthonyexmouth
      @anthonyexmouth 3 года назад +1

      @@alexgti9345 Bias frames are made with the lens cap on, same gain/temp as lights but the shortest exposures the camera can take.
      flat-darks are similar but exposure length matches the length of the flats.

    • @anthonyexmouth
      @anthonyexmouth 3 года назад

      I know the 294 gets unpredictable results when trying to take shortest possible exposures so better to take dark-flats which are generally slightly longer exposures.

    • @alexgti9345
      @alexgti9345 3 года назад

      @@anthonyexmouth what do you call unpredictable results actually? Could you please explain? I just can't see a difference when I use biases+flats and/or flat darks to calibrate flats. I even tried to use biases , darks, flats, flat darks and dark optimization altogether and still can't see a difference in the final master light..

      You can check for updates inside PixInsight if it didn't do it automatically. Once it downloads it from the repository, you will have to restart Pix to install it. Then it should show as ver 2.0.2 or later.

    I like the content of your videos but, recommendations if I may. Delete the talking head inset video. It adds nothing and sometimes covers over content. Intros and summaries are appropriate for non-content video but, during the presentation, avoid using them (the insets). Also, consider using a cursor enhancement program as the cursor is hard to follow on a tablet device.
