Yep, just suburban pop country that is now labeled as country. This type of music allows “country fans” that do not like traditional country an out. So they don’t have slide over the the pop side. Even though the same people produce it and it sounds the same.

His lyrics primarily have a country theme but the instrumentals and beats aren't quite, although his newest single "Water Under The Bridge" definitely seems to move in the more traditional country direction

Sam Hunt is an R&B singer. Like a lot of these new "country stars" that are being promoted. They are trying to dilute Country by injecting R&B and rap artists. Its obvious.
