    Mold Max 29NV is a Shore 29A tin-catalyzed silicone rubber that offers low viscosity, fast cure and long library life.
    This is a basic "block mold" that may be used to reproduce model parts, or small ornamental pieces. Mold Max 29NV is an easy to use tin cure silicone that pours easily. After demold, Smooth Cast urethane resin is poured to make the reproduction.
    Original model is an antique from that can no longer be purchased. Detail in the frame is very intricate. A mold is made using Mold Max 29NV silicone.

    We've been getting a lot of questions about how Mold Max 29NV stacks up to the rest of the Mold Max series. Here is a handy comparison: www.smooth-on.com/compare/2969/33888/3347/mold-max/

      What product(s) do you recommend for casting mirror frames? Having in mind dimensions, which are a lot larger, more material goes in...
      Thank you.

    But what if you wanted a backing?

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon  Год назад

      You could use anything for a backing. Most epoxy adhesives can be used to bond other materials to this resin.

    What would be best silicone for flexible jewelry and bands (Like watch bands). Not rigid resins but lower durometer, fairly high elongation, tear resistant, and UV resistant silicone. And able to colorize it.

    I am trying to make silicone soap dishes. What would be the best material to use for the mold? And what would be the best type of silicone to use for casting?

    Maybe it should be obvious to me but it isn’t. Does this method maintain a “shelf” on which to set a canvas as the original frame must have had? Or would a router still be needed in order to create the shelf on the back? Thanks for any info!

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon  3 года назад

      If you are looking to include the recess for a canvas, you would either need to insert a spacer (some customers use HDPE plastic strips) or use a router as you mentioned.

    If the antique wood frame you want to cast is chipping or chipped in certain spots would you apply the wax to it or no? Also do you think the rubber cast would pull anything off the wood frame

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon  4 года назад

      Good question. The rubber may pull loose particles off the frame. You should apply wax to the entire surface.

      Smooth-On thank you for the reply and thanks for posting the video. I never ever thought of this and it’s going to really help me out. I would of thought about doing a plaster casting or even using petroleum jelly but your way seems much easier and less mess. Is the baseboard foam board or differently material? Definitely going to do a test on smaller easier frame first. I want to see how the wax performs when pulling the wood frame from the mold mixture.

    How dimensionally accurate are these methods? Can they be used for some engineering models, like gears, wheels, shafts, etc. which need to be precise within let's say 0,1 mm per 100 mm.

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon  6 лет назад +1

      Absolutely. Platinum silicone and high performance resins are commonly used for these applications. www.smooth-on.com/applications/prototyping-inventing/

    I've used Smooth-Cast325 and after an hour my plastic is still soft. How did you get that plastic to completely cure in 10 minutes?

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon  7 лет назад

      The demold time will depend on thickness. The thinner the casting, the longer is will take to cure. What is your casting thickness?

    • @starwarsgeekdotnet
      @starwarsgeekdotnet 7 лет назад

      Smooth-On less than 1" thick. I make action figure parts for 4" and 6" figures mostly.

    • @smoothon
      @smoothon  7 лет назад

      Temperature can also affect cure time, you should ensure the material is at 73F.
