These owners have the best of both worlds;living right in town in an old building. So lucky! Gorgeous space!

The flat is situated on Broughton Place, Edinburgh, when I was a nipper I worked in a garage in Broughton Place Lane, I walked past this flat every day for years, if I remember correctly a lot of this street was boarded up out of use, I am talking about 1984-85, long time ago, the shops were quite old and tatty and the whole area lacked the refined edge found in this video, great memories, great days, great flat.

I recall marvelling at curved doors and the door frames at Kedleston Hall, I think there is one at Manderston too. To imagine the craftsmen steaming the doors in a jig to set them. Delightful to see an example in an Edinburgh town property, I wonder how many there are throughout the New Town.

I would be very happy to live there. The best part of the apartment is the iconic urban view! I see several design cliches about -- the sputnik pendant, the irregular mirror, and the pots of succulents, for example. But overall a winner.

The original Georgian architectural features and their outstanding build quality and required technique - the curved wall and incredible carved panelled doors - are in a totally different league from the modern elements. The modern elements are not bad, it’s just that the original building was world class when it was constructed.

can you find me a video of any of those houses from the inside in the current year or all of them are changed from inside?

There's a house museum in the New Town called Georgian House that shows one of these town houses in all its original glory. Well worth a visit if you're in Edinburgh. Most of the Georgian era townhouses are split into multiple apartments now as people just live differently. But many of the remodels were done to a high standard and retain a lot of the architectural features of the original interiors. Hop on some of the area realtors RUclips channels to see a variety that are currently listed or sold over the last year or so.

Were these tenement buildings originally built for poor people or rich people? I thought that they were originally built to house the poor, but the size of the rooms suggests rich people lived there. Or maybe an entire family lived in one room (although the bloke says that the rooms were intended to be bedrooms).

I think this particular building was designed as flats from the onset. The fine craftsmanship of the curved doors and walls indicates the intended audience were fairly well off. Tenement doesn't mean the same thing in regard to these buildings as it does when discussing living accommodations in New York city in the 19th century. In Georgian Edinburgh it just means flats.

What if he (a male owner/ tenant) lives there alone? Or several males, no female? And do you put the seat back up after yourself for males? Where is your feminist gender equality ?
