In Tibetan the word for meditation is Gom which means to become familiar with one's mind through repetition.
I have read that Gurdjieff who learned with Sufis said that the Christian ritual was inspired by the esoteric schools of Ancient Egypt which were called schools of repetition.
Listening implies a meeting between a hearing consciousness of a listener and the consciousness of one who knows. But because body, mind and essence are not separate it means that the body of the two must see each other or in other words to be in the necessary proximity of where the essence of the one who knows can mingle with the essence of the one who listens which I believe would be in person. I don't believe that transmission and therefore listening works through Internet if the distance between the two people exceeds the distance to which essence expands.
In Sanskrit there are several terms for remembrance, shruti that which is heard (as in revealed such as the Quran, the Vedas) continuous remembrance, smrti which was translated as mindfulness and smaran which means constant rememberance like Zikr.
