I think that Dave is probably the most 'intelligent' drummer to emerge on the scene in the last 30 or so years.. Vinnie, Gadd, Keith Carlock are all absolutely incredible drummers, no doubt about that, but you rarely see them teaching their craft the way that Dave ALWAYS has, and still does, to this day. I'm a huge fan of all of the above, as well as (obviously) the late great Jeff Porcaro, but Dave is almost TOO good. His phrasing is insane.

Like he's no good man that person is and can't or will never even get near his ,or become good before he doesn't even have ti natural part to recognize, playing skills of Mr.super sweet Gerry Brown and that,s a dead part in your poor soul that you just have too have even before you pick up the sticks ! Period again ! Man yeah I've seen them all but Dennis is and he first came out especially with the Scofield band ,man that s---- was incredible and then the video tape of him and the band at him alone with Garryon bass doing all that stuff ,just the two of them,, Nobody ever heard a Dennis Chambers like that dropped out of a space ship, with extra limbs at the time ,his off beat stuff like that and his speed like he just ended now and the Scofield albums were iffy the hook and on the live steely Dan Album, his playing on that album was furious Realin in the years, Babylon sister,s dragon that stick holie Christ,yDidd ever kn thar Erskine was on there ,it sure didn't help him ,sorry to sAy but I say that and I also pray for him but that is personal thing that waas said , and the only reason that im saying some thjnv mim thAt. For 45 years there has but one man who occupies the #1 spot for me, never to be dethroned. That man is Dave Weckl. No smoother, more fluid, melodic, musical, technical drummer has ever lived. His style should be mandatory. His transitions are impeccable. His phrasing is awe-inspiring. His groove is astounding. His pocket is deep. He is as consummate as they come. At this level it is merely a matter of taste. Vinnie, Donati, Borlai, Smith, Sucherman, Coleman and a fistful of others are equal to, or close to, the task, but Dave's style, for me, is unsurpassed.
