What is the Upside Down Egg in Stranger Things?

I have a theory. I believe the egg could be the reproduction process of a Mind Flayer. And POSSIBLY, the mind flayer is similar to Starlord’s Dad from Guardians of the Galaxy, where he wants everything to be him and only him. So the mind flayer wants all of it’s connected organisms(demigorgons/demidogs/demibats) to destroy any future mind flayers. So its doesn’t have to share the upside down with any other Hive mind sentient Shadow beast.

Basically what im saying is the mind flayer doesn’t like to share. Cause i cant imagine these things are really dependent on eating anything to survive, they want to kill because they want to remove competition of worlds. In the upside down it would other mind flayers would be competition, in the normal realm it would be humans as the competition.

Good theory, the existing mind flayer could be directing the demogorgon to eat the eggs on purpose.
