Great video! Thanks for this, I lost all my manuals in my house move. Following your clear and informative instructions my home office was set-up and working in 15 mins.
Thank you so much for the detailed demonstration! I have watched couple of the videos about how to use the docking station and no one mentioned about the display port cable but ONLY you!!! You’re da BEST!!
Thank you for the detailed instructions! Can the dock connect to a dell laptop that does not have a USB-C port? Is there an adapter that can be purchased? Thanks!
I just got one of these brand new with a Latitude 5420 laptop. Im noticing the docking station doesnt activate the USB ports until the laptop is fully booted....Which defeats the purpose of a docking station because I cant use the external keyboard/mouse to enter the hard drive encryption key upon boot up or the login credentials at the Windows login screen. So I have to fully boot up the laptop first, THEN connect it to the docking station to begin work. Anybody else having this incredibly annoying problem? I should note I have 2 other non-Dell docking stations I use with this same laptop and they dont have this issue.
Thank you soo much, one thing that I struggled with was the Ethernet cable bit as my WiFi box is not in the same room as my gaming setup, so I would really appreciate it if you showed us how/if to connect it without Ethernet cable. Anyways thank you so much for this helpful video.
Seriously. Thank you so much. Today is the first day that my new help desk job has finally asked me to do something. They handed me a docking station and told me to check that it works by hooking it up. I didn’t even know what a docking station was used for, I didn’t even know what the name of this type of technology was! After looking up the model number and reading about what it does your video helped me to figure it out. I’m just trying to look competent enough to not get fired yet 🥲
@@jayday325 I honestly quit that job because I was working as a contractor and the contract was going to end soon. They were not re-hiring anybody from that contract. Having that job though, helped me by allowing me to get my next job. The job I’m at now pays me $22 an hour to work from home and all I do is basically password resets. The job that I was at when I first made this post. It paid me $20 an hour and it was an on-site job where I needed to drive 30 minutes to get to work. It really was not a bad job. BUT I only have one car to share with me and my husband so it did make it challenging for both of us to have full time jobs. I am hoping to stay with this company for at least a year and then try to apply for a cyber security job within the company or in a company that allows me to travel internationally while working remotely.
I've set up my old Dell WD19/ K20a dock to my new HP 2023 laptop but it ain't working. Blue light is showing on the power lead but the light at the end of the usb c lead that goes into the laptop is not coming on. I've tried to my new LG monitor with both HDMI and DP cables but still no image signal being found on my monitor. Any ideas please? Not sure if it's a compatability issue between HP and Dell? The laptop makes the discovery noise when the usb c lead is plugged in/unplugged and I've download the latest Dell firmware? Thanks
Seeing as how you mentioned having to first sign into the laptop before the other monitors would connect, it doesn't seem as though this docking station is meant to be used with a pc tower because there is no monitor directly attached to the tower, so I could not sign in without being able to see what I am doing. Is my understanding correct?
I see that the cable from the docking station (c-type) has an led indicator that glows when connected to the laptop. Mine glows only with Dell laptop not with HP. Interestingly, the mouse and the keyboard connected to the docking station are working fine. Any suggestions for HP laptop? How do I display the screen?
I connected my Dell 5515 to the WD19DC with dual external monitors but I continue to get a duplicate screen when I have to manually detect every time. How can I remedy this? Thank you.
What type of cable are you using to go from the docking station to each monitor? Is it HDMI or something else? This video doesn't explain what the cables are before plugging them in.
If you're using a Windows laptop, you'll need to change the power settings. Press the Windows key and type in "Lid" (w/o quotes). In the "Plugged in" column and "When I close the lid" row, change it to "Do nothing" instead of whatever it is set to. Save changes and test it out.
Seems pretty straightforward, except (1) there are easier ways to use an external (larger) monitor with a laptop - without moving mouse, keyboard etc to the Displaylink which is totally unnecessary. Or is the plan to do something beyond what was shown? Is there a strategy for some further interconnections that was never introduced? I suspect it was just missed by the author. And - except (2) you assume everybody with a Displaylink has a USB-C port to transmit video. I would wager there are many more users with HDMI, but you fail to demonstrate or even explain even a possibility of HDMI connections. Otherwise, OK.
The logic is that once you plug all your stuff up to the dock, you put it somewhere in back out of sight. Then you just have the one cord to plug into your laptop (instead of 5 or 6). If you hide it well, it makes your desk look much cleaner and less cluttered. Plus, you can swap out laptops easy with the one cord. I just did all this yesterday for the first time, replacing my old desktop with a new laptop. It really does reduce clutter... plus, I can swap out my personal laptop and work laptop in just a couple of seconds. Very convenient.
I've watched dozens of videos nothing worked. I came across yours i didn't even finish watching your setup worked on mine.
Thank you!
I was wondering why my monitors wouldn't turn on. I was missing the whole power cable! Thank you so much

Can the laptop USB-C power supply provide power to the docking station or can we only use the power that goes into the "round" connection?
Do I still need an Ethernet cord to plug into the dock if the laptop has wireless internet Wi-Fi?
nah probably
Thank you very much David.
thanks for your video, do i need to get any kind of docking station or the same brand for my dell laptop?

Leaving the power cable connected to the laptop all the time isn't going to ruin the battery? Thanks

As I understood, the power button cannot be used to switch off the dock when I'm not using it, right?
Thank you. Very helpful!
Question: can you turn on the laptop from dockstation? Without open it?
Thank you for this, very helpful
Are display ports better than HDMI?
How do you split the screens?
Does this work if you have an older laptop without USB -c?
Great video
Thank you!! very clear instructions!!
Greet video Thanks for making this video
Great video. Thank you.
Can you use one display cord for 2 added monitors to a laptop?
I connected my Dell 5515 to the WD19DC with dual external monitors but I continue to get a duplicate screen when I have to manually detect every time. How can I remedy this? Thank you.
Hi, do you know if it's possible tu startup my lapto from a docking power on button when the lid is closed ?
Thank you
my lenovo 7i doesnt recognize the dell docking station. any thoughts?
My laptop doesn't have a usb-c port to hook up the dock. That's strange since it's a latest dell. How can i use the dock if i don't see that port?
How about a docking station for those of us who don't have a USB-C laptop? Would like to connect my two 27" monitors to it.

Why did you bring out the Surface laptop to show how to turn it on?...
What docking station is it? What model

Hi ! Does that work with a laptop running linux ?
My display port cable can't fit into docking station. I mean the cable that connects from the monitor to docking station. Any help?
Super helpful btw
someone of you guys have made connection between this docking station and MacBook Air 13 2020 with 2 screen?
But when I close the laptop the extra screen goes blank. How can I shut the laptop and just work on the bigger screen.

Great instructions but your cable management needs some work!!!
I followed all of these steps but my laptop didn't automatically display on the monitor, my is black
Why won't my docking station work and it's brand new
Good question mine won’t either
This video doesn't talk about software / driver installation of the WD15 unit.
