I'm an elderly woman without family or friends. I don't mind eating out alone or going to a movie theater alone. But if I were to spend a weekend in the Caribbean and return to the US, I would be crying if I were stopped, and that would make me even more suspicious.
Be careful. Don't just befriend anybody. Get to know whomever you meet. For whatever reason or season. I'm alone in this world, I do everything alone, and I've learned to respect, love, and embrace it. Stay safe.
I am recently widowed and flying alone soon for the first time. I will indeed be nervous going through customs alone. Over the years my husband and I met customs agents who were very professional, and those who were extremely rude. In one country we were yelled at for stepping up to the counter together, and in another I was jokingly asked if we didn’t like one another because we stepped up separately. When I explained that we had been yelled out previously for being together, he told us that was ridiculous. Inconsistency in procedures makes customs a stressful experience. Nothing about flying is enjoyable any more.
If you're rude and nasty in most establishments they will ban you from said establishment, it should be the same with airports when people abuse the staff, they are just doing thier jobs.
US domestic air traveler here. I once bought a lovely 5 lb stone Buddha when traveling. Every TSA check, the bag I’d packed it in got flagged. In fact, after one check, the TSA agent explained his colleagues had taken bets over what it was, and he’d won. I think it was the highlight of their day (it was mine)!

I travel throughout the Middle East, Europe and the US. I always get stopped. Single female in a suit... They look at my watch, I get swabbed - hands and bag... They ask me how much money I'm carrying, ask what's in the bag. My answers are: about £1 for a cup of tea, and clothes, lots of clothes. 😂 If you get stopped a lot like I do, you have to allow time at the airport. I was once boarding for the US from the ME and was stopped as I tried to board the cabin! They took my hand luggage apart right at the entry and I ended up being the last to board the flight! You just have to understand the security concern, and act passively. There's no point in making an embarrassing situation MORE embarrassing. I know I'm innocent, after all. 😊
As a Trinidadian, this is sooo frustrating to see. A few rotten eggs truly spoilt the bunch. Now, our country is being identified as a trafficking route.
It’s so funny, I used to work in a high end department store in Beverly Hills California. I was a plain clothes security agent. I would arrest very wealthy people, normally women, I’d ask them if they had the money to pay for the items they stole and they would say yes. I then asked, why didn’t you just pay for it? Usually they would tell me,their husband traveled a lot and when they would act out like this the hubby would feel guilty and buy them whatever they wanted. They were bored, and needed some excitement. Some were well known actresses.
Traveling from Italy to Los Angeles my husband and I had 3 incidents. 1. My husband was checked in a group of 12 people for “gunpowder” 2. Before I got off the first flight to change planes I put an apple from the airplane meal in my purse thinking I might get hungry later. An airport dog sniffed my purse and I had to wait in a line to explain my story. After that I bought some chocolate bars for my grandchildren before getting on the next flight. 3. While going through TSA the lady did a test on my chocolate bars to see if they were drugs.
Those are the kind of people who are so poor and desperate, probably have their family threaten in their country, so they know if they get caught they have to do the time, kept their mouth shout and wait, because the time to repay the loss of that money will come. It's very sad.

Lol every time I go through security I'm always pale and sweaty and shaking but always get through in a breeze. My husband on the other hand always has to do the extra searching and he's smooth and confident.
@@sweetbeep When you enter a country you have to declare one citizenship. The reason is because when you leave that country you have to leave under the same citizenship so that they can track that you have actually left on the date that you declared upon entry. It's to make sure that the records of people who enter and exit the country are correct. This is normal across the world. When traveling internationally, and using foreign citizenship to land in a different country you have to exit that country with the same citizenship identification. When returning to your home country you can do the same thing with your other citizenship. You literally change citizenship mid-air. So that in your home country you are leaving and entering your home country under the same citizenship. That's just the way it works. It's very efficient. The purpose of a dual citizenship is not about convenience for security and customs, it's about how you can operate while you are within a country. For example whether or not you can work, whether or not you can own property and so on. At a border you have to declare one citizenship or the other.

Our first trip through American customs in '63 started off badly because one of the Steamer Trunks was locked with the keys inside it. The senior agent wanted to smash the lock off in his anger but his underlying said to let our Dad open the trunk by pulling the pins from the hinges. In half a heartbeat Dad opened the trunk for inspection but the senior agent continued his scolding. As far as I know, he is still angrily telling our parents off today.

Dude, that attitude of the guy coming from Dubai would put me on alert and I'm a laid back trusting kind of guy. Red flag the size of that room.
He is most likely a citizen of Kenia or Uganda. Going shopping at Dubai is common. The seller at the stores know usually very well how much you can take on flight and warn customer when they buy too much.
People from some African countries aim always like that. Unfortunately, they often succeed with that behave. They understand only strong arguments and to echo their behave.
At some point it was kind of obvious he was making a "scene" to try to call the attention on him and not on his associate who carried most contraband. Fortunately the other man was found too.

I understand that officials are just doing a job, but some reactions of impatience and anger at being stopped multiple times when you are NOT doing anything illegal can be understood. Not everyone who gets riled up at the imposition is a bad person, they might legitimately just be in a hurry.

Bet they never got sent to prison.
Now it wouldn't even get them attention.
Dang.
You just made me think of the Winona Ryder incident a long time ago.
Traveling from Italy to Los Angeles my husband and I had 3 incidents.
1. My husband was checked in a group of 12 people for “gunpowder”
Crazy
That’s crazy to test the chocolate bar 🍫
The gunpowder is crazy.
But the US is the biggest consumer of drugs in the world, so it's to be expected.

Lol every time I go through security I'm always pale and sweaty and shaking but always get through in a breeze. My husband on the other hand always has to do the extra searching and he's smooth and confident.
Why would they be upset you have dual citizenship tho?
@@sweetbeepIkr? You would think that would be a big plus.
