I was a commercial HVAC tech for 16 years. A properly set up Evap cooler should get between 20-30 degree split depending on humidity. We have an A/C and evap cooler on our house in Phoenix. There is no comparison on electric usage. The evap is way cheaper to run. I will say that if your humidity goes up during monsoons or the temperature goes above 105 an A/C system will work better for these times.
