    Man some of the records are insane! 178-30-38, 131-3-1, 103-29-20, 108-8-3, 89-6, 70-0-5. man these guys were built different! As always great video Rummy!

    • @devilface97
      @devilface97 Год назад +9

      And the crazy part is many of those records are incomplete and will probably never be completed. They still find langford fights. For over a century george dixons fights were missing they still are missing from his boxrec. He had over 900 fights, and they were finally found by accident .

    • @gretashapiro4118
      @gretashapiro4118 Год назад +3

      Built different? Maybe because of diet and training science at the time vs now . And that most of them probably had to work for a living unless they were paid handsome salaries for fights

    • @martindunstan8043
      @martindunstan8043 Год назад +9

      The difference imo is these guys were fighting to put food on the table and not $20 million a fight at top level for a diamond encrusted gold Rolex. No ducking from these real men from very hard times, of course there were flamboyant characters from that era like Jack Johnson but for the most part very humble hard fighting men that just wanted to make a living with their talent for beating people up🤣👍

    Great Job Rummy. For me all of the top 5 are such extraordinary men, that we still talk about them today. Wilde is still regarded as perhaps the best British fighter ever. What Johnson went through outside the ring, and yet endured is unique. I'm glad he was pardoned. Keep up the great work. Johnson will always be my hero.

      @@RummysCorner I've often thought this is when boxing first became a global interest. With troops travelling around the world to fight, and wanting news from home, you can imagine all the debates over who was best going on, and the rivalries that British and American troops would argue over, in the pubs/bars and trenches.

    • @kufujitsu
      @kufujitsu Год назад

      Johnson went through a lot, but at least he got the opportunity to be great, which was denied to Wills, Langford, & many other great black fighters during that time.
      Seems like whenever a colored fighter distinguishes himself at the highest level during those early times, there's always many others of similar abilities who were kept in the background.
      Charles Burley (who fought in Ray Robinson's era) is another good example of this dynamic.

    You talk about a murderers row?! I take this Top 10 against just about any list in history. Very well done.
    I think Greb is the greatest fighter that ever lived. He has a resume that NO ONE can come close to. Just an amazing fighter. Langford is my own personal number 4. Nat Fleisher, the founder of Ring magazine was asked about a fight between Greb and Langford. He knew both men and had often been at ringside for their fights. He loved both guys. But he said that he didn't think Langford could touch Greb. That, along with a 32-11-5 record against Hall of Famers makes him my number one. By the way, he's the only guy on your list that actually beat two of your other Top 10 fighters. Just an unreal legend.
    By the way, Duran ( as much as I loved him) is NOT Benny Leonard.

    I'm sorry but where the heck is Jack Dempsy?! He boxed in this era and without him, Boxing most likely would have never gotten as popular as it is now because after he completely manhandled Jess Willard people started paying a lot more attention to boxing in general. And we wouldn't have boxers like Rocky Marciano and Mike Tyson. Dempsy most definitely deserves to be on this list. Hell, I'd put him at number 1. Or are you possibly saving him for the top 1920s boxers?

    • @RummysCorner

      I would need to double check, but I believe Dempsey came in at #15 or #16 in the 1910s. While I haven't even began to look at the 1920s lists yet, my suspicion is that he has better chance of cracking the Top 10 there (although I'm merely speculating).

    It’s great for folks to have opinions on this stuff. Makes for wonderful speculation and conversation.
    But I simply cannot understand the infatuation with Langford. Here’s a fact for you - not opinion:
    - In the final 12 times Langford fought Wills, Langford didn’t win a single match. Not one. Wills won 11 of 12 - with one draw
    - Overall, these two met 17 times:
    > Wills won 13
    > Langford won 2
    > With 2 draws
    Supreme “Ring IQ”???? Best fighter of the decade???? I think if that were true, he would have figured out how to win more than 2 out of 17 matches against Wills.
