    On MFT cameras the
    field of view is reduced to 150°. The intention of the lenscap ring left on the lens is to achieve a circular field of view on full-frame sensors.

    You need to look at the 7.5mm 7artisans lens for APSC. I've had a lot of fun with mine on my Fuji bodies. The angle of view is even greater than this one, but oh the wonderful distortion. Makes you think.

    This lens is great for architectural and astrophotography. I set the focus to infinity and then duct tape the focus ring for the rest of the day. Everything from a meter away to infinity is in focus.. Thanks for good review!

    I’ve just purchased one and look forward to shooting it on my. Olympus EM1 MK 1 in London on Sunday. I like the fact it’s more of an ultra wide angle than a true fisheye, which allows the lens more scope for use rather than being too niche.

    A fisheye lens certsinly brings a new perspective, as you makes perfectly clare in this inspiring video. Great work. They're not everyones cup of tea, though. I have the Canon FD 15mm 2.8 fisheye lens, a great combination with a Canon analogue slr. Using that one for crop sensors would be missing the point though.

    Nice review. I love shooting with fisheye lenses. I'm really impressed with how small that one is for what it does. I have a Meike 8mm F3.5 that I bought a while back for my Canon 70D and it takes wonderful pictures. It's very sharp and has color that could rival a Carl Zeiss lens. It was designed for APS-C but being manual, it works very well with my Olympus E-M5. But it's a very large all metal 3 pound lens so it's rather unwieldly on the little Olympus.

  • @1davidpeter
    @1davidpeter 3 года назад +1

    great as usual, but can't work out how they claim 180 degree field of view as those fragments of lens hood must be higher than the edges of the glass and surely block light coming perpendicular to the axis of the lens? Or is the 180 degrees just at the corners where the hood is down to zero, so generally across the picture the field of view is less than 180??? Maybe?

    • @diegoscopia
      @diegoscopia 3 года назад +1

      180 degrees is across from corner to corner. This lens however is only 180 degrees on APSc sensors. On mft it's 150 degrees. The only mft lens that reaches 180 is the Samyang 7.5mm and maybe the Olympus 8mm (but don't quote me on it)

    • @zenography7923
      @zenography7923  3 года назад

      I think the truth must be that it's less than 180 degrees, but probably not by too much.

  • @GeorgeK356
    @GeorgeK356 3 года назад

    This is one of the best videos you have made, Nigel, in my opinion.
    Your enthusiasm shines through, and I suspect you had a lot of fun shooting the pictures and making it.
    I wonder why this lens is only available in MFT? is it because of the image circle size? I know that it is difficult to get ultra wide lenses, because of the front element size, in 35mm format. Possibly if they dropped the maximum aperture a bit they could engineer an APS-C size too?
    I bought a Sigma 10mm-20mm when I was shooting Nikon (film and digital) and now use it on my Fuji x's and it's the shortest focal length I've shot.
    I really struggle, apart from interiors (churches, museums, country hoeses etc), to use it. Your images and compositional advice have given me some ideas for shots.
    Thank you
    George

      Bonjour mon ami, et je m'excuse, mon Francais n'est pas bien, donc je ecrive en Anglais! The 'best' camera depends on what you want. I very much like the Fuji cameras and they shoot vintage lenses very nicely, but to experience the whole character of a vintage lens, you'll need to shoot full frame. The A7 mark 1 is very affordable at the moment, and for vintage lenses, I find, there's nothing quite like it! In your position, I'd buy an A7 mark 1.

      They are niche lenses. They are great for expansive landscapes when defished with software. However, that defeats the point really. I find semi fisheye lenses really make you think compositionally, ideally you want symmetry and straight parallel lines to exploit the distortion, but not always.
