My father's Mother sat me on her couch with my then fiancee in 1978 to show us a shoe box. In it were 2 swatches of 2"x2" cloth among other things. The first cloth she picked up and said, "This is your primary clan, McLean." ( of Duart - a swatch of ancient dress tartan) Then, she picked up the second swatch and said, " This is your lesser clan Mclough. They went into the McGregor clan way back." These songs bring her words back alive. The old family name was Pickering from Birmingham, England. Shirt tail relatives still exist there.

Ahh, the history here. I hear so many of my favorite British roots singers from the late sixties here: Joni Mitchell, Graham Nash, Art Garfunkel, to name some.
It's in the harmony progressions and notes chosen to be played in the harmonies that I hear the artists of my youth ..here
    ROOTS!!

The last song set is "Da bhfaigheann mo rogha de thriur acu / Dhannsamaid le Ailean / Cairistion' Nigh'n Eoghainn" which is off their CD "Dual" (which is one of my favorite CDs because they complement each other so well). Most of the songs sung on this video are from that CD.

I have a scarf just like the one Muireann is wearing in this video. Anyway, I love Julie and Muireann both together and separately, and I hope they record another album together one day. Thank you for uploading this!

I came upon your name while researching who sings the beautiful song on the movie trailer for "Brave", the new Pixar movie. I've always been a huge fan of many Irish Gaelic singers, my own daughter among them, but never heard of Julie Fowlis. You now have a new fan in this old American Irishman!

Julie and Muireann speak two different branches of Gaelic language (Scottish and Irish) and they understand each other.

they are friends so they've got used to each other's language. When you're not used to the other language you can understand many words but there are also many words you don't understand...

possibly because she's a Scottish Gaelic singer and not a singer of Irish Gaelic?

While I appreciate you apparent logic, by that very logic, what you're saying is, if someone is very familiar with Fords, they'd never have the chance to hear of a Chevy?
