Hey, here is an idea! Why not make a "Failed Collection" where you share your experiences with soap that didn't turn out the way you wanted to and actually make it the right way. Yes? No?... I am just sharing :D
I’m sorry, but when that spatula fell in, I fell out laughing. The commercial break right after the zoom in only cracked me up more. Thanks for sharing even the failures with us, Katie!
If you ever really don’t like how a batch turned out you should donate it to a local women’s shelter. I know soap can’t solve the world’s problems but it would be so nice for them to have something beautiful like your soaps!
We typically have a few batches we don’t sell as peasant soaps or get pulled from the shelves if they don’t sell and we do donate those to local hospitals or women’s shelters or families we are connected with that are in need.💗
I agree most of my soaps go to homeless shelters because I don't sell them and yet I'm addicted to making soap so after a couple of weeks I'm looking around and I have wall-to-wall soap LOL. I worked at a homeless shelter for women and children and I know for a fact that they appreciate everything that is given to them😀😀
I would soooooo buy a "pie of the month soap," that was actually shaped like a slice of pie. Summer pies like Key lime, lemon, strawberry, ect.....then fall cod be like an apple pie, pumpkin pie, pecan pie......🤤🤤🤤now I'm hungry
Being as it's not scented, could just be a cool caramel apple soap...love key lime pie! Would choose it over chocolate. I'm funny though, will almost always choose fruit
Sometimes I think artistic people are hard on themselves for not creating what they had in their head. I get that but...it wasn't a giant failure. It was just not how you were expecting, you know? ❤
Yes! Artists focus on how their creations don't align to their visions, while viewers see products for what they are - without any preconceived notions.
@@ItsDevore of course she has the right to. I just wanted to put another perspective out there and perhaps reassure some people that we can be our own worst critics and we don't always have to be hard ourselves.
I am so thrilled other people asked for an unscented fancy soap! I thought about asking a few times but didn’t think anyone else would want it. I’m so sensitive to so many fragrances that by the time I check ingredients on what I’m buying on your release date it’s all sold out! Key lime pie is probably one of my favorite desserts.
I am normally allergic to soal but the ones with fancy oils etc in them makes my allergy worse I think there should be always a unsceted soap that also isnt just one color (as what i came across always-not here tho) And it shouldnt be limited time available bc we are not allergic or something for limited time
Personally I feel like a frosted soap with a "meringue" for key lime pie and the cheesecake one should've been unfrosted. But I love the idea of a key lime pie soap!
Tea , sugar , and salt I was thinking the same thing i am a pastry chef in Colorado and key lime didn’t have meringue ! A lemon meringue does ! Similar custard bases but usually the key like is finished off with a dollar of whip cream or just plain
@@shavonstevens2260 My granny made it completely covered on top with whipped cream. And what cheesecake gets iced? Personally, I think *this* soap (with no scent) should be re-named "candy apple sucker" and the collection soap (with scent) should be a hi-top with icing goodness and a slice embed.
Seeing creators I highly respect talk about their failures make me feel much better about when I fail at things, esp when the thing isn't *that* bad but the creator can only see the flaws. It shows that being hard on yourself is human, and makes me want to be as understanding to myself as I am of them
As a chronic migraine sufferer, I buy your soap to put in our spare bathroom because scents trigger me pretty badly but I am absolutely a customer for life now! Thank you for seeing us scent-sensitive people who so longingly look at the pretty Lush bath bombs before pouring in the unscented Epsom Salt into the actual bath.
The more concussions I get ( currently healing from one and also experience chronic migraines ) the more sensitive to Scents I am becoming and although it sucks I am thankful for people like her who see us !!
Scents are also a trigger me, as a chronic migraineur. BUT also, I have a hard time finding a soap maker who doesn't use scents and/or shea butter in every recipe! I'm allergic to it, and cannot buy these beautiful soaps because they're using butter/oils that I'm allergic to :( So, I have started making my own soaps instead.
I had no idea scents can trigger migraine in some people. My regrets for you, my dear, for the pain and for the unability to use scents. Does your migraines trigger with all scents or just specific ones? I am curious, sorry.
in all seriousness, i was having a really really awful day until i started this video and ur general vibe (yes i said vibe) and outlook is helping immensely. obv this is a video on the internet, and i dont know you at all, but like, thanks dude.
Katie - I have a great hint for you!!! If you have runny bottom layer, spray liberally with alcohol snd wait a minute or two. A thin skin will form on the top. I find if you’re gentle you can float your next layer on it. I use this method a lot when I make rainbow soap because you’re having to do so many layers and you don’t want to wait hours to get the bottom layers to set up. Hope it can be a useful tip for you abd other soap makers out there!! 💕💕💕
Oh man, as a painter I definitely go through that moment of- "I just completely forgot how to paint. That's it, there's no hope. All my training and experience has left me forever!!" What it usually actually signifies is that something went wrong with my tools but in that bit of time between "everything is going wrong" and "here's the simple adjustment I have to make" it's all just thoughts about how badly I'm doing. Yep and add one big frosting blob then a melt and pour cone sticking off the top would look so cool like the bar was just a dropped ice-cream. Chocolate brown on the bottom and a few other layers of color as the scoops .
The grand carousel cake that was destroyed on cake boss was so heartbreaking but they didn't put a guy in the back on the literally biggest cake they have made with the least supports? Coincidence? I think not!
That line about having some failures even when you know what you're doing and starting to question if you're even good at the thing was something I needed to hear today. I had 3 failed batches of macarons yesterday when I haven't had a failed batch in almost a year. A nice reminder to hear that today.
Thank you for talking about how artists go through rough patches too. I'm learning ceramics, and everything feels like it's going wrong. Your pep talk was helpful.
Katie your determination and perseverance are amazing. I love how you show mistakes. No one is perfect but you do epic art and work. Thank you so much for being such an inspiration.
I really love soap fail videos because I feel like I learn a lot about soap making from them. I’m not really looking to get into soap making, but I have very much enjoyed learning about it over the years watching your videos ❤️
45 seconds in and I liked this video because Katie is truly a lovely person to acknowledge that everyone isn’t perfect and makes mistakes and ITS OKAY TO DO THAT. ❤️❤️❤️
I love Katie because of how honest and transparent she is! I've been watching her for years and her voice always puts me in a good mood, and I can't wait for my next paycheck so I can finally buy a couple bars of soap!

I might pop by the store on release day for an unscented bar (I like... some... scents... non-pastry-like scents... but sometimes it's nice to have something unscented)! Not that there's anything wrong with having a theme or inspiration but sometimes it's ok for something to not have them and just be cool to look at or pretty! So fear not! It's not what you intended but it's not a fail either! Much love!!

I love how positive she was throughout the video ❤️ made me so happy to see someone laugh at their mistakes instead of dread over it and feel bad about it
Thank you for this video! as a new soap maker, I tend to beat myself up when things go wrong, but I love that seeing everyone does that from time to time... even soap makers that I look up to!
Love key lime pie! My favorite! It looks pretty even though it didn’t come out as planned. It’s just a pie that a first time pie maker made…. A happy accident!
Thank you for still sharing this! I just had a batch go all sideways on me last night and was bummed about it, and this was exactly what I needed to hear. The thing about several going wrong at a time especially. Thank you!
I absolutely love that Katie uploads "failures"... Honestly, I loved the final product... but as an "artist", I love unexpected outcomes. My main point is, even when Katie doesn't get the results she wanted, she puts it out there regardless. ❤ that!
I think it's great that you showed us this. It shows other soap makers what problems could come up with different techniques. You explaining the problem helps everyone learn from it 🙂
You're one of my favorite people. You're so cheerful and happy. I've been watching your videos for a few weeks now and I already want to be friends with you and just hang out and make soap. Keep being your amazing self, Katie. If you ever visit the North Coast of California, please let me know so we can get lunch!
It IS so much fun! I started after watching Katie, and I love it. Once you start you’ll be addicted. I have had so much fun making soaps - and surprisingly it became a side business for me. The cool thing is that every soap maker is different. You might love bright colours, someone else will use no colours or fragrances. Some people like only natural colourants like cocoa powder or dandelions. My friend loves bright neons! 🌈. Your personality will really shine once you get started making it. Good luck!!! 🍀🍀🍀
1. I love your shirt in this video 2. as someone who is getting ready to embark on a soap making adventure, I appreciate you showing us what can go wrong, even if you think you have everything right. I've been going back and watching as many of these videos as I can and it's fascinating and so informative! Thank you!!

I just wanted to say thank you! I've made incredible soaps by watching your video with your techniques. I watch your channel all. The. Time. I'm so grateful you show us all these incredible soaps. You are talented!
I could not have laugh harder while katey was describing the outcome of the soaps! I love her energy and personality and how she's always a good sport even when her soap batch "fails"
I actually think it's beautiful. Green is my favourite colour and I like how abstract it looks! Like an abstract earthy painting and I'm totally here for it
you keep saying it's ugly, but omg is it beautiful. those swirls all over the bottom are just so very fun and would look fantastic in some sort of paisly boho design. great job, Katy!
Sure did enjoy the video. Glad you share with us the realities of soap making. 20 years ago I catered my friends wedding by myself. I made something like 500 mini tart shells and transported them across several states for the wedding and then filled them with keylime pie filling. I haven't enjoyed key lime pie since. I have eaten it a couple of times but I haven't made. My husband loves it.
Oh NO! Aw, the spatula drop! You handle your soap 'ooopses' with much less crying and anger than I do! I love seeing these fails as a soapmaker, because it helps me NOT make those same fails in future. I love to see how you problem solve them, you're amazing as always!
Made my first batch in 2 years and it didn’t come out so great. Was feeling a little down. Watched this and it lifted me up. Laughed my head off at your comments. Thank you😊
I honestly love how you show your mess ups too. A lot of people seem to prefer to hide their mistakes, but you are always like "oopsie doodle, learning moment" which is really great.
oh, my heart broke a little for you when the spatula fell in. i LOVE your failed videos, though! gives a BIG boost to us new soapmakers that even professionals that have been making soap for ages mess up their batches every now and again.
This is so great, really. All we usually see from so many artists is their perfect things and it's so refreshing to see that yes, mistakes happen to all of us. I hope you do sell this one, I think it's so fun looking and I love it.
I love that you kept working all the way through even to decorating the top! I would’ve gotten so frustrated and flustered but you really kept your cool & had fun 🥺
Thank you so much for posting the videos that don't go according to plan! I absolutely love them. They remind me that it's okay to mess up as an artist and to not be so hard on myself. Thank you!
Honestly, I love watching you flub a batch. Not because you failed, but because you're so dern positive about it. "It's SO BAD! **giggle giggle giggle**" I need to learn that.
The colors are gorgeous. I have a friend who is a potter. I am the proud and grateful recipients of many of her 'failures' that she doesn't want to sell. I love them. I feel like there must be a Land of Misfit Soaps in your studio. Bring them out to people and let them have some love!
Hey, here is an idea! Why not make a "Failed Collection" where you share your experiences with soap that didn't turn out the way you wanted to and actually make it the right way. Yes? No?... I am just sharing :D

i thought she had given up and thrown in the spatula with anger 😆 took me by surprise, i cant imagine katie ever getting angry
Me too, I replayed it too

If you ever really don’t like how a batch turned out you should donate it to a local women’s shelter. I know soap can’t solve the world’s problems but it would be so nice for them to have something beautiful like your soaps!
I think she sells them as "peasant soaps" meaning something is not quite right with the batch.
And the ones that aren't saleable are dangerous to use, because the lye has separated.
We typically have a few batches we don’t sell as peasant soaps or get pulled from the shelves if they don’t sell and we do donate those to local hospitals or women’s shelters or families we are connected with that are in need.💗
After being in a woman's shelter I can honestly say this is a great idea. They really can use the help.

I worked at a homeless shelter for women and children and I know for a fact that they appreciate everything that is given to them😀😀
I can't be the only who didn't realize fragrance made such a huge difference! 🤯 I still love how it came out!!
Okay next Key Lime soap you do please dollop the top with “whipped cream” soap icing, and then add the green bits over top ❤️ it’s still beautiful
Yes, I was so surprised she didn’t add frosting since the white “cream” would look nice in the green base
Maybe add a lime slice embed to the very top?
I would soooooo buy a "pie of the month soap," that was actually shaped like a slice of pie. Summer pies like Key lime, lemon, strawberry, ect.....then fall cod be like an apple pie, pumpkin pie, pecan pie......🤤🤤🤤now I'm hungry
Key lime pie uses meringue not whip cream. That said real key lime pie is yellow not green.
Rename it "Expedition to Venus" and make it a part of a mercury retrograde collection!!!!!
33 likes at 3 hours oh something big is coming
I would absolutely invest in a weird planetary alien landscape series soap, ngl
ETA: maybe this could even be an unscented collection! I would think that because there's no air in space, there would also be no smells?
I was thinking "Alien abduction" but this is great
I was also reminded of Venus by the soap. I'm so surprised that I'm not the only one!
OMG I lost it at the spatula!!! 😂😂 I'm so glad you share your "mess ups" with us. But really, I think it's beautiful!
Being as it's not scented, could just be a cool caramel apple soap...love key lime pie! Would choose it over chocolate. I'm funny though, will almost always choose fruit
I completely agree that you could call it caramel apple sucker soap and no one would know it was a mess up.
Yes! My thought exactly!!
When she put the glitter on my first thought was caramel apple sucker

you keep saying it's ugly, but omg is it beautiful. those swirls all over the bottom are just so very fun and would look fantastic in some sort of paisly boho design. great job, Katy!
Just rename it Cactus Soap and it’s no longer a “fail”
Sure did enjoy the video. Glad you share with us the realities of soap making.
20 years ago I catered my friends wedding by myself. I made something like 500 mini tart shells and transported them across several states for the wedding and then filled them with keylime pie filling. I haven't enjoyed key lime pie since. I have eaten it a couple of times but I haven't made. My husband loves it.
She sounds so excited that she failed😂 Edit: I love Key Lime Pie. 😋
Oh NO! Aw, the spatula drop! You handle your soap 'ooopses' with much less crying and anger than I do! I love seeing these fails as a soapmaker, because it helps me NOT make those same fails in future. I love to see how you problem solve them, you're amazing as always!
Can u PLEASE make a pride soap
Can we just love this woman for being 100% and being all xyz didn't work out. Yaaaaas!
Made my first batch in 2 years and it didn’t come out so great. Was feeling a little down. Watched this and it lifted me up. Laughed my head off at your comments. Thank you😊
Everybody is entitled to have bad soaping days. It's all good. You still put your heart into it. Love the colors. 🥰😉
I honestly love how you show your mess ups too. A lot of people seem to prefer to hide their mistakes, but you are always like "oopsie doodle, learning moment" which is really great.
My week has been terrible and nothing is working for me so I really truly appreciated your pep talk about failed ventures and your open realness :'$
oh, my heart broke a little for you when the spatula fell in. i LOVE your failed videos, though! gives a BIG boost to us new soapmakers that even professionals that have been making soap for ages mess up their batches every now and again.
