I've lived in NC, SC, and now live in VA and I've never once seen or heard of anyone making fried pies. So looking forward to trying one if I can find one!
They're like pizza in that not all are going to be as good as the other. But if these folks make that many in one day, then I suggest you try theirs before getting disappointed somewhere else.

In the west, they are called fruit Turnovers, and found in Mexican Bakeries. The Pies with meat come from Wales in the UK.

My mother made them with raisins.
Fried pies are not unique to the south.
Mcdonald's even used to sell them before they changed to baked in the 90s.
