Wow. What a mission. "3 points, innit?" made me laugh. Loving this first battle in the campaign. I'm in the US, so I've never seen this game in person, but now I kinda want a neoprene mat version of this gameboard and maybe some DIY cards and tokens.
It's a really fun game, and yea, it can generate tense moments, and sometimes it is brutal, but not to the same degree as Space Hulk. You do get a chance to breathe in Space Crusade.
This play through really illustrated the value of the heavy terminator armor. The terminators shrugged off enormous amounts of punishment, and absolutely stomped on the enemies of the Imperium!!!
They did fantastically well. The hand to hand combat is still very tense, because it bypasses the armour. To be honest, I think the dread should have focused on battering the remaining regulars to pick up more points rather than wasting its attacks on the commander. Hindsight, and all that.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring That final flamer shot to destroy BOTH the dreadnought and the Chaos Commander was truly epic! One thing that I always liked about Space Hulk was the limited ammunition for both the flamer and the assault cannon--that really made for some agonizingly tense decisions on whether to unleash a precious shot from the heavy weapons. @@davidk6269 It was very cool to get that big hit at just the right time. Yeah, limited ammo works really well in Space Hulk when you are making split second decisions against the timer. Everything is stressful. Also in Hulk the flamer is more about area control and limiting the flow of genestealers while in Crusade the more open plans mean you are shooting to kill. I think it’s the right choice for each game. There will be at least four more terminator missions to complete this campaign! Next one hopefully won’t take too long to get on the channel.

They really are a struggle to take down, especially when you only have gretchin to do it. Later in the campaign when the more threatening foes appear we should see a few more terminators going down.

Great play through. Love the old 1st edition Space Hulk Terminators. Along with the 2nd edition Sergeant these look perfect for adding into Space Crusade. The more recent Terminators just don’t fit the look of the game or the size of the board. Nice to see you painted them in solid blue to keep the vibe going.

@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Amazing. Also I must say the board is really gorgeous. And the game was really well filmed given its size. Congratulation for that
These things do have a way of working themselves out! Fortunately, forgetting to miss a turn with the commander had no serious lasting impact. It's not like he punched out a dreadnought or anything.
have never used termies in this game always seemed to overpowered so be watching this series with some glee. i think u realy need to put missle laucher on dread as its got a good chance to kill them
Actually, the missile launcher isn't as good as the plasma gun for termies. The splash damage for the missile is only one red dice which isn't enough to kill a termie, while the plasma gun rolls two red dice for everything in a straight line. The assault cannon can split shots but again, would only ever roll enough to kill one termie, but at least there is no risk of collateral damage.
Ha. Yea, this is from the good old days when they called a spade a spade. To be honest, even if it wasn't, I almost guarantee I would have said computer anyway!
Fun playthrough, and some veeeery jammy dice rolls for the Terminators . . . until right near the end when they angered the omnissiah or something. But it wouldn't be Space Crusade without some dice shenannigans! One thing I find this expansion highlights quite well is just how hard it is to balance this game for a single player (which is what it feels like it's geared towards.) On the one hand, the Alien Player has such a numerical advantage that you feel like you have to up the survivability of the Marine Player's miniatures, but even that one extra armour point makes such a huge difference to the point where only the elite tier enemies are a significant threat. The other obvious alternative is the 'Eldar Attack' approach which just gives the MP more miniatures to work with, though I personally feel like that slows play up a little too much for my taste. I did some playtesting for a custom ruleset for my own amusement (for the Sisters of Battle, because why not?) and the best I could come up with was an overwatch mechanic, and a third pool of equipment cards ("relics") that can be found in-mission as a special blip token (just like the Eldar Attack 'equipment' blip.) progression
Mission Dreadnought helps a lot. You can give marines access to stuff like the tarantula or even increase the squad size because of the extra marines in that expansion. Dividing the blips into equal stacks and allocating them to board sections helps too, as it prevents the marines from facing an overwhelming force immediately as soon as they set foot inside. I think the Eldar Attack expansion does a really good job of making it a two-player experience. The Eldar are very killy, but as my recent playthrough proved, they can still get a drubbing, and I don't find it slows down the gameplay, because there is only one squad on the board instead of three. However, for me the core game really is a four-player experience. That's where it excels. I only use single squads on my channel playthroughs to keep things a little simpler and cleaner because they take so long to make! It should be noted, this Renegade campaign actually scales for the number of players and also for whether or not you are including Mission Dreadnought, so you effectively have six difficulty modes, two each for one, two, and three squads of marines. You can also run regular marines, but they don't recommend it.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring I'll have to give the expansions a try someday. Back when I actually had a physical copy of the game (very badly painted and sadly lost in a house move circa 1999) I didn't even know the expansions existed, and from what I gather they've only gotten even more scarce. So It'll probably be a while before I'm able get to them!
I tremble at how this is going to go after how the poor Eldar fared... But I suppose the marines have tougher armour. Fingers crossed it helps! Edit: Or terminators, I see. Even better!
Did you check out the teaser trailer where I introduced the terminator squad and read the full background of the campaign? It was posted last week and gives some context to the series.
Yeah, Space Crusade doesn't pull punches when you do badly. If the marines score poorly the commander goes back into the Hulk by himself and dies gloriously trying to prove himself.
I’m actually designing my own game, based off of space crusade and hero quest. I’m using the hero quest combat system, just because it’s slightly simpler, and my boys are young. But this is great, I’m going to watch your Playthru just get ideas about how to smooth out the gameplay and add certain features. At the moment I’ve made a board, we have modular dungeon walls and terrain. We have black pawns for blips… right now we roll a dice to decide what category of enemy the blips turn into… but I think it’s too long winded, and gets complicated. Might try and pick up some small card squares that I can make my own blips. Plus I need to incorporate event cards
Ah superb! Another Space Crusade vid! This has inspired me to seek out those terminator marines for my SC collection. I already have WD134 + 145. I need some advice though. Can you only get those ones from Space Hulk 1st/2nd editions? Also are there any similar terminator minitures for the Assault Cannon, Lightning Claws and Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield marines? Looking forward to more playthroughs.
The first edition Space Hulk terminators also turned up in Tyranid Attack and a boxed set called Tyranids and Terminators. My commander in this playthrough is from second edition Space Hulk, which had all new miniatures. My marines were donated to the channel, but you can find loose examples for sale on eBay quite often. If you want the assault cannon, lightning claws and so forth, and want to stay period accurate, you will need to look for the old Rogue Trader metal terminator miniatures. However, newer terminators (and the terminators from the newest edition of Space Hulk) also have all of the weapon variants you would need (they are just much bigger and don't really fit on the Space Crusade board space very well).
Hello friend, I really enjoy your space crusade videos, I want to ask you where to find the miniatures for the space crusade renegade expansion (they look great with the armor, I would like to know where I can get them, greetings)
I'm using terminators from the original Space Hulk game because they are period accurate for Space Crusade. Any terminator miniatures will do, though. I've got a video on the channel where I used the terminators from the most recent edition of Space Hulk too.
Spoiler alert: They made that look easy. The 'Fire' order and the extra round ended up giving the Terminators more points. When you're that far ahead, you can afford to be greedy. 😃

Thanks for watching. The regulars are from the first edition of Space Hulk, and the Commander is from the second edition of Space Hulk. Where possible I try to use period accurate miniatures when I am playing these older games (basically I try to play it how it would have been played at the time), and the Space Hulk minis fit the bill.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoringNice, nice. I'm doing something similar and collecting a full set of HQ-appropriate Citadel minis to turn the Avalon Hill release into a more vintage experience. Man, that heavy flamer is massively powerful compared to the limited shots in space hulk, and I mean.. its still powerful in space hulk, but you always gotta think about whether to fire or not.
Yeah, Space Crusade is a bit of a different beast to Space Hulk. The flamer in space hulk blocks areas of the board off so it sort of has a different purpose.
That look a great vidéo. I just start, but I have a ask already. On my phone I can't see which weapon is carry by who. Can you consider mark the base or the weapon with some color ? Maybe they are all dead at the end then problem solve 😅
This campaign is a bit thematically odd with the enemies. It works in regular games of Space Crusade - the enemies are a chaos force, with chaos marines, chaos androids and chaos dreadnoughts, with orcs and gretchin who would ally with chaos if it was to their benefit back in Rogue Trader days. The genestealers were random enemies slinking around the space hulks, which is why they only spawned from cards and didn't grant victory points. However, once you start adding in genestealer hybrids and even tyranids it's a lot harder to reconcile everything thematically.
Hi, it's four first edition Space Hulk termies and a second edition Space Hulk termie leading them. I hit them with a rattle can of Ultramarine Blue so they would be recognisable as Ultramarines.
The playthrough for ASC might be a little while coming, but I am going to be doing a rules run through soon and talking through the forces I have already gathered.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring hm, interesting color of the plastic. I remember these Terminator models in a much darker blue(1st edition) and a light grey (2nd edition).
Well these have been spray undercoated just to make them look more in-line with the other Space Crusade miniatures. Obviously, they will get proper paint jobs eventually.
As it's not a Games Workshop game I don't think they would want to put out anything too similar to it, especially as they have a good working relationship with Hasbro. They have released some light tabletop games that are intended to bridge that gap to 40K though. Titles like Labyrinth of the Necrons, Rise of the Orks, Fireteam, and Doomsday Countdown all share that space of being easily accessible games with a 40K theme.
I still haven't played Labyrinth of the Necrons and I just got Space Marine and Hired Gun on sale and bought Boltgun upon release, now there's ANOTHER board game I'm finding out about? 40k stop, STOP THIS, YOU'RE DRAINING MY WALLET, 40K STAHP!!
Unfortunately, Space Crusade is very old and long out of print so it really could do some serious damage to your wallet. Boltgun looks like a lot of fun. I'm considering grabbing it.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Ah well, that's a mild relief. Boltgun is amazing, levels are quite long, about 20 to 25 minutes on first play (minus first level) because the design is very maze like. The second to last level in the first chapter is a bit of a chore as you have to enter a correct series of door portals. I'll just tell you, they have the chaos symbol over them, took me a minute to figure that out. The secrets in the levels are just power ups for the current (or certain) weapon for the remainder of the level. It's pure 90's shooter formula, key card, purge, exit. It can be quite a challenge even on normal difficulty when the Chaos Marines show up.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring I just bought Battlesector Deluxe since everything 40k and Warhammer is on sale for the next 5 days. This is my life now praise the Emperor.

@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Sorry for confusing you. it was just my bookmark for where I had to stop watching. It allows me to pick-up again at the correct time stamp. ; )
Ha. I wanted to keep the first edition Space Hulk vibe (with the exception of the power sword, which you have to take), which meant no assault cannon. But also, a terminator assault cannon is exactly the same as the regular assault cannon except it just rolls one extra white dice, which doesn't seem as impressive to me as the heavy flamer.
What a great start for this campaign, hope the Eldars were watching from the side to be shown how it's meant to be done!

Yeah, Space Crusade is a bit of a different beast to Space Hulk. The flamer in space hulk blocks areas of the board off so it sort of has a different purpose.
Awesome game. I want to know though, what are those terminators from? I'm assuming Space Hulk for most of em but whay about the commander?
Thanks. Yes, the four regulars are from the first edition of Space Hulk. The commander is from the second edition of Space Hulk.
First....yayyy. Amazing, again!
Thanks for checking out the video. You move much faster than terminators do.
That look a great vidéo.
I just start, but I have a ask already.
On my phone I can't see which weapon is carry by who. Can you consider mark the base or the weapon with some color ?
Maybe they are all dead at the end then problem solve 😅
Thanks. I will look at marking the base of the heavy flamer.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring great
Just finish and it was a blast.
Thanks so much to play this game with those rules I never try myself
Thanks for watching.
It’s very odd all these different enemies cooperating better than “the heroes”
This campaign is a bit thematically odd with the enemies. It works in regular games of Space Crusade - the enemies are a chaos force, with chaos marines, chaos androids and chaos dreadnoughts, with orcs and gretchin who would ally with chaos if it was to their benefit back in Rogue Trader days. The genestealers were random enemies slinking around the space hulks, which is why they only spawned from cards and didn't grant victory points.
However, once you start adding in genestealer hybrids and even tyranids it's a lot harder to reconcile everything thematically.
Hello where your terminator squad came from, i don t rememeber GW release a terminator squad of color base
Hi, it's four first edition Space Hulk termies and a second edition Space Hulk termie leading them. I hit them with a rattle can of Ultramarine Blue so they would be recognisable as Ultramarines.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring ok, i have the 1st and 2nd ed if SH, so i know what i have to do;)
When will you do an advanced space crusade playthroug ;)
The playthrough for ASC might be a little while coming, but I am going to be doing a rules run through soon and talking through the forces I have already gathered.
May I ask whre you did get the Terminator models?
They are old Space Hulk terminators.
Dude ace
Thanks. I had fun with this one.
@Always Board Never Boring When's the next 1 dropping
@@stageworker23 This Wednesday.
I'm curious how these dice are faced..?
White = 0x3 1x2 2x1
Red = 0x2 1x2 2x2
White dice are 0,0,0,0,1,2.
Red dice are 0,0,0,1,2,3
I'm suprised that GW didn't just re-release this game with a new name and some design changes as a gateway game to 40k.
@@fear5735 Nice. If I can free up some time, I'll try to give it a whirl.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring I just bought Battlesector Deluxe since everything 40k and Warhammer is on sale for the next 5 days. This is my life now praise the Emperor.
I do not understand the white dice vs red dice.
White dice are 0,0,0,0,1,2 and red dice are for heavy weapons and have 0,0,0,1,2,3.
Spoiler alert:
That Heavy Flamer should probably have died to the Genestealer. When you walk off into the darkness of a Space Hulk alone, don't expect to come back. 😅
These terminators were Teflon-coated.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Well, for *most* of the game anyway... ;)

The lesser-spotted corridor blip?
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Sorry for confusing you. it was just my bookmark for where I had to stop watching. It allows me to pick-up again at the correct time stamp. ; )
Ha, no worries. I thought you might have hit the send button by accident before typing a question or comment.
Awesome, but a Terminator without a "Xenos Lawn Mower" minigun is just not thaaat much fun as a "Heretics Purger" flame thrower... just saying 😅
Excellent
Thank you.
@@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring love it dude 💯& thank you a game I always wanted & could never get my hands on!
