As the years went by and the more twisted I understood the Nasuverse is the more I realized that Kayneth is honestly a good dude. The fact that he legit loved someone, someone whom after they treated him so badly and yet was still willing to throw their chance at the grail for only to beg for death via getting sniped is so damn sad. Cause we know that Tokiomi would *never* do that even if Aoi or Rin's life was at risk.
Really the best way I could describe how he fought in the war is by the quote "The risk I took was calculated but man am I bad at math" cause how could he know his Duel against Saber would be interrupted or that his Hotel would get *blown up* or that Kiritsugu- the guy infamous for using modern warfare had magical bullets that would forever cripple a mage or that his Fiancee would despise him so much that she would *let herself* get seduced by a magic curse that she could have easily broken.
It really says a lot how happy I am that Fate/Accel Zero order exist where Kayneth while played like a fiddle by Waver was able to help the protagonist in the War and was able to go back to London safe and sound. Plus Kayneth thinking his family was able to essentially invent time travel and laughs with that disturbing face is kind of endearing in a strange way.

Kayneth is a product of his time and upbringing, but still retained his own morals and standing. He, funnily enough, would be a very close parellel to Rin as well.
They both have their duties to their world and beliefs, but it doesn't stop them from at least trying to be decent people in context when it matters.

Kayneth knows Waiver is correct, but without proper knowledge and lineage, it eventually ends bad.

Kayneth didn’t put any trust into his servant. Which sucks because he was also the type to go into battle and fight for honor. Just like Diarmuid wanting to fight for honor but it didn’t go either of their ways, if Kayneth had better trust in Diarmuid then they could’ve gotten further in the war

Honestly, I dug him. Cool aesthetic, cool ability, and a lot of room for building up his own family's lore and the lore of the verse by nature of him being the head of a family. Arrogant, sure. Worse person in the war, not even close. He was a mage but not an evil one or even close to some of the others that we've seen as seen as him wanting to withdraw rather than attempt to recover his magecraft and putting his wife above his pride, only continuing on because of her threatening him into it.
If you want to find fault, it's that he wasn't a cute girl instead. Seriously, no NTR and the fans would've been a 100% more sympathetic if Kiritsugu did it to Reines rather than him.

On my exhaustive list of complaints about Urobochi, he seems tailored to be a personal antagonist for Weaver but spends his time being bullied by Kiritsugu while Weaver is busy sluthing Gilles' position. While you can say that isn't how life goes, it does deny the audience some choice confrontations.

    • @Shadowfire129
      @Shadowfire129 Год назад +9

In some ways you could say it's intentional, those two have personal history and reasons to stand against each, it would be thematic and raise tensions in the story for them to clash but only if Urobochi enforced it.
And by that the reason it didn't happen was due to their personal viewpoints and choices. Kayneth doubled down focusing on Saber/Irisviel from having lancer team up with Berserker to expecting Irisviel to attack his magical fortress/hotel only for Emiya to flip the script on him. Hence he goes and attacks their base expecting a traditional magus duel and not expecting "do anything to win" Emiya assassination attempt which leaves him crippled and a broken man. Not helping matters is his fiance who hates him is in love with a servant he does not trust. Which we all know how it ends for him.
Waver on the other hand is being dragged around by a servant he doesn't have real control as well being smart enough not to use command seals to enforce rider obedience and with Caster doing his child kidnappings/murders Waver focuses on him being a threat on magical/humane level that Kayneth isn't.
Kayneth could had focused on Waver after the hotel bombing but he didn't, he was pissed on what he saw as an "equal" refusing to play his game and went to get revenge/salvage his ego and still paid the price for it. Waver could have tried to focus on his teacher to show he wasn't wrong on his thesis/belief and that he was someone worth something but instead he focused on Caster and stopping his brand of madness. Both had valid reason to try to attack each other but decided to focus on things that struck them in a more personal level.

Hell, althought he got this "pure breed magi" thing going on, even Waver did honestly admired him and his work, he is not nearly as arrogant as Rin's dad yet he worked hard to be in the position where he is besides his family inheritage wich also helps. So what if the Grail War had the following teams, who would win:
    Waver & Saber
    Kayneth & Berserk
    Tokiomi & Lancer
    Kariya & Assassin
    Ryounosuke & Rider
    Kirei & Caster
    Kiritsugu & Archer

Do you honestly believe iskander wouldn't kill ryounosuke and leaving irisviel with gil is just asking for trouble

    • @deutschgaming4109
      @deutschgaming4109 Год назад +2

Waver and Saber is an interesting duo...their character kinda fits but she'd end up with a slightly better Shirou mana wise...which in this context is just asking for trouble (Gil seems less arrogant and wiser in Zero than Stay Night, and the fact that its not Shirou means UBW cant kill him). Thus Saber is restricted by a bad master (Iskander also had moments where Mana was lacking, and so counldnt use his full potential). Kayneth and Berserk are really interested.
Kayneth may be irritated that Berserk doesnt listen to his orders (he's a Berserker, duh) but he's got the advantage that he can supply the Mana hungry Berserker with lots of Mana. I can definately see him being one of the final contenders.
Kariya would love Assassin since the Assassin can literally assassinate Tokiomi and doesnt eat as much of Kariya's meagre mana reserves as Berserker did.
Tokiomi and Lancer would have a similar relationship that Kayneth and Lancer had...as much as Tokiomi did more morally questionable things, Tokiomi did so because he follows the laws of mages (selling his daughter was due to this)...so I think they'd get along. And Tokiomi hiding more means Lancer has a fighting chance and doesnt get yeeted by a Geas Scroll.
Rider would absolutely despise Ryounosuke and the tension between the two would self sabotage them so much that they'd probably drop out early due to infighting. Kirei and Caster is a horror scenario. Caster was definately a servant that could have won it. And unlike this time, he's got a master that wouldnt allow himself to casually be sniped. Their relationship would start off rocky, however once Kirei starts to get his taste of blood, they'd become an even better duo than he was with Ryou. If they win by creating a massive monster I can see the Church or even the Counterforce just deciding to nuke the place, no one wins the war.
Kerry and Archer is interesting. Archer would hate Iri since he'd see her a mockery of human perfection. Now Kerrys relationship with Archer depends entirely how interesting Kerry makes himself. If he's always away Archer may get a few ideas to manipulate Maya to betray Kerry (she got quite some trauma in her childhood, and Archer being the persuasive dealmaker he is might just use that). However in terms of firepower they can definately win this simply cuz Archer is there. Kerry not having Avalon doe means that Kirei would kill him in a one to one fight. And Iri would obviously die much earlier.
After some time passes I think Berserker kills the greatly nerfed Saber and Waver, to Kayneth's delight. Rider and Ryo commit mutual suicide, and Kariya tries to kill Tokiomi. Lancer has the better master and the better Agility stat, however Kariya, fueled by his hate, would probably send the hundred Hassans at once against Tokiomi, and Lancer lacking an AOE noble Phantasm would not be able to defend him against all of them, so Tokiomi and a few Hassans die. Like some younglings said; "Master Skywalker, there's too many of them, what are we going to do?"
The next target Kariya has any chance of taking on is Berserker, however his use of machine guns and Kayneths mystic Code would probably kill enough Hassans for Kayneth to survive, making this a temporary win for Kayneth.
Now with Berserker, Caster and Archer left, we all know that Berserker just loses. Berserker barely managed to hold off 16 Gate of Babylon projectiles, and Nasu humself said that had Gil used 32 Berserker would have died. Lets give him the benefit of the doubt and say Berserker's upper limit is 64 because he has a better master. That's still not enough since Gil can use 1000s of projectiles at once (as he did against Enkidu)...knowing him he'd probably use a mere hundred, and that'll do indeed.
In the Case Berserker goes after Caster, he would probably just get overwhelmed by Tentacle Monsters. I doubt Kirei would go against Kayneth doe since Kayneth's Mystic Code would grant him a great shield against his black keys and give him the means to put a few holes in Kireis body. So Kirei, being as mobile as he is, probably hides. Long story short, Berserker gets killed and Kayneth may be a great Mage, but isnt enough against a Caster servant in terms of Magecraft. He dies.
Now we'll probably have Gilles create a giant monster. Gil can defeat it, using Ea or a couple noble phantasms. However he probably wouldnt wanna do so. Iri has already died, and depending on if Maya or Kerry is master, Kirei would seek to kill that one. Kirei would win regardless of whom it is, so the outcome entirely depends if Kerry/Maya is willing to force Gil to use Ea by Command Seal, also probably resulting in the Master's death since Gil would see it as the greatest insult. Gil an survive however since his A+ independent action and B ranked Mana can let him live long enough to bond with another Master...and depending on if Ea obliterated Kirei, we got our winning Duo...Archer and Kirei. Gil would absolutely form a contract with Kirei since he has to win this war for his ego. So in the end there are two options: The unlikelier one is that the Monster keeps growing and the Counterforce blows it all up. No winner. Or Archer and Kirei win, unleashing Kirei's wish/ a worse version of it due to Caster's influence like in Zero...however no Avalon means no Shirou to challenge Gil in Stay Night, probably giving Gil his insane UBW wish....unless a small Matou girl gets in his way. However, Stay Night has a much darker ending every time, unless we get a phenomenal Saber or Archer servant summoned. Artoria is unlikely to get summoned since Avalon no longer is there to function as a catalyst.
To be honest this is an interesting timeline, even if it has the same ending as the original. But what happens after the fourth grail war is much much darker, but hey, at least our favorite Tsundere may get a more useful servant!

If he for example manage to summon Karna or any other Demi God Lancer servants, then the Holy Grail war should be super easy for him to win.

The Holy Grail isn't about summoning the strongest servant, but rather the most suitable for you. Even a hassan can win the war with a proper strategy.
Summoning karna wouldn't be as good of an idea as you might think, the war is secretive so he won't be able to go all out most of the time, and even if he did he can't do that for more than 10 seconds due to his high mana consumption, at this point diarmuid is a way better choice. Besides kayneth was planning to summon iskandar at first, and after losing he wanted to Summoning saber diarmuid but he wasn't lucky enough to succeed.
A strong servant won't help you win the war. A GOOD SERVANT compatible with his master will.

@@knightofthelake8112Thank you so much for your opinion, and I respect it.
Kayneth doesn't need to worry about the Mana Consumption that much because he has his fiance Sola Ui to share the burden, that is his greatest advantage he has compare to the other masters.
I'm sorry but even if your compatibility with your servant is great and you have many strategies set in place with that servant prepared. A TRASH servant is still a TRASH servant, you can't expect to win a HGW with cheap skills and weak ass noble phantasms.
Can you see it in your yourself that you can win with someone as Shakespeare or Gilles (Saber) as your partner?? Of course not! They're WEAK as fuck...
At the end of the Day, a servant's cheat like skills and sure kill noble phantasms is what will enable you to win the Holy Grail.

      @@canormillegardencooperativ5174
First of all, karna to operate fully needs a huge mana pool, kayneth's advantage was that he shared the burden with Sola ui so he was able to keep his reserves to himself and operate at full capacity with his magecraft. It's not like diarmuid was receiving the mana of two people at once, for karna a first rate mage would allow him to go all out for 10 seconds, a second inferior mage like Sola wouldn't make much difference, tokiomi even said that sola's capacity to maintain a servant is trash compared to kayneth, so no. Karna with kayneth even with Sola helping is still gonna be held back to ridiculous levels.
A strong servant isn't a win con, Gilgamesh is op yet with a good strategy lancelot defeated him once in fate zero (the sky fight) and in fate zero accel. Same with artoria, she was about to lose to diarmuid thanks to his strategy.
Gilles and Shakespeare can also allow you to win, all you gotta a do is make a truce with another master who is at disadvantage against someone you are advantageous against, and then you'll help each other by eliminating threats that you are equipped to beat, for example Shakespeare can easily win against servants with past trauma, teaming up with him would always be a good decisions for other masters, if you play your cards right you can have your enemies defeat each other. Gilles is pretty powerful himself, in his saber form he has solid stats and good magic resistance so he would have no problem deal with casters and assassins, if he teams up with an archer he will have a pretty solid chance against the other teams and in the end they will fight each other.
A powerful noble phantasm won't do you any good if you can't use it, Lancelot and diarmuid have no destructive noble phantasms in fate zero yet they were still the contenders for winning the war because of how tactical and haxed they are, according to Urobuchi and nasu they can easily secure the Grail war of they teamed up.
