Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

"This n.. This maniac was in our video!" 🤣
Solid Interview Much Respect to You Both
LMAO about Run!!!! He was always paranoid back then, thinking everyone was dissin' him.
Yeah I notice this that.
It’s called COCAINE! Cocaine is a helluva drug!
He should have he was top dog
WE LOVE U KOOL, BIG BRO!!![999]
Thank you for covering the legends the culture sweeps under the rug. I feel like a lot of Historians and documentaries jump from the park jams to Def Jam to the 90’s and totally leave out groups like UTFO, Doug E Fresh & The Get Fresh Crew, Whodini, and The Fat Boys. I know for a fact Whodini and The Fat Boys had Gold and Platinum albums the same time Run-DMC did but for some reason they don’t get the same recognition. Shame on the culture for that ✌️
This is a blessing this is crazy I was just at the gym bump and Can you feel it LOL
That's so real. That's why I always shake my head and disagree when someone downplays MC Hammer's contributions. He brought rap (if not necessarily hip hop) to the masses in a way that EVERYBODY got paid in the 90s. Without those crossovers (Young MC, Tone Loc, Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, etc.), there's no way rap/hip hop becomes as big as it did, at least not in the 90s. The Fat Boys crawled so that Jay-Z could run, you know?
Why does a positive hip hop channel like this only have 32k subs, while bafoonery like glad has millions? Our culture is sick now
Because it's a positive hip hop channel...channels that promote the remedial bs, glorified beefs and the like is what many people seemingly want. The dumbassification of the hip hop nation is in full effect mode. Support UAE and get the word out to others!!
Indeed
@@IceManLikeGervin Word
This Channel is for Grown Folks Mature Hip Hop Heads. So I'm not surprised. Most Things of Substance don't get too love nowadays
Generally people gravitate towards ignorance. The inventor of TV thought he was going to revolutionize education. I'm wrong? Go check... Ask yourself "How would that serve 'The Elite'"?? It didn't.. So yes you can learn from TV but you have to search long and hard for good documentaries. The rest is almost entirely abject foolishness. That's why I can't involve myself in this industry. I met some real characters trying to do beats in the 90's. Some of them still make videos that get hundreds of thousands of hits. They can have it
Kool Rock used to date Robin Givens back in the day. I remember hearing at that time they stepped to Mike strapped over her.
Soren Baker is the William Miller of hip hop journalism.
Yello Man was on Run DMC's Root, Rock, Reggae.
Awesome. Rock the house, yall....
Excellent Interview

Goat 🐐
The Fat boys was dope
I think soren baker was the biggest Fat Boys fan back in the days..i enjoyed this interview
Kool Rock Ski got a dope track comin out with Kokane soon, be on a lookout for that.
@8:13 💀😩 that's actually the highlight of the song
You should have asked about when they tried to do Go-Go. Sounded nothing like Go-Go though. 85-86 everybody was trying to incorporate gogo in their records.
Hope you talk about the whole culture one day because that's what real HipHop is about Emceing, Turntablism, B , Boying, and Graffiti, Real Graffiti Artist never get mentioned!😕
It was called " SUN SPLASH "...
Love the Fat Boys! My first rap tape was Fat Boys Are Back
The last remaining Fat Boy.
Sad
Wow he just told us don’t be stupid was writing by kurtis blow??? And we did drake and others for having ghost writers.
FOH with that...... the Fat Boys never called themselves the best lyricist ever. The minute you fix your mouth to say you're the greatest you had better be writing your rhymes. No ghostwriters for the best. Nas, Jay, Rakim, Biggie, Em, Pac Big Daddy Kane.. etc Drake is an excellent artist but the minute he had people writing his rhymes he was done. No need to cape for him he's chilling in some villa somewhere but he's been off that list
