Yeaaah, so here's why this comparison is not a fact... it's actually the fat Boys who were close to their end in '87. These were literally their last hit songs, and they were performing these songs for the 'Showtime At The Apollo' crowd that was usually younger and more of a hip-hop audience. Run-DMC were performing Proud To Be Black from the multi-platinum Raising Hell album in front of an older Apollo crowd that wasn't into hip-hop at a show that was not 'Showtime'. Run-DMC actually went on in 1988 to have another platinum album, whereas the Fat Boys last hit album was in '87, and their next one was a flop. Both of these groups were considered old school by the time '90 hit, but the Fat Boys much more so.
I'm happy to have discovered the fat boys even 30 some years after. They had a unique sound it reminds me of biz Markie and run DMC I wonder if one influence the other.?

To me as we saw in this video even though both groups are legends in hip hop the crowd was going wild for the Fat Boys compared to nobody getting out of their seats for Run DMC and they had less time on stage. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017 to find me.
Fat Boys stole the show with their energy and charisma plain and simple. But it’s music and is perception of the fans in the audience. You can’t say all these years later they were wrong lol
The crowd was rocking to the fat boys not because they were dope rappers but because they were a novelty. The dancing and sampled songs makes it more entertaining and fun for young girls. Run dmc was too original and too hard. But as time passes, which group is respected and still played today? Rundmc.
