- Authorities say bodycam footage allegedly shows an officer holding onto a suspect's car as he flees a traffic stop on August 27. The Port St. Lucie Police Department said the suspect told the officer that he's "scared of cops, bro," before driving off when asked to step out of the car.

Aside from the poor decision making of the driver, my other reaction is that those cops ran for a long time before they realized "hey, we're on foot and the suspect is accelerating away in a car."

It’s clearly a misunderstanding. Cop should’ve apologized and let him go as soon as he said “ I’m scared of cops”. Now if they find him and take him to court, he should tell the judge that he is scared of judges and should be released immediately.

I will never understand how anyone thinks it's a good idea to run from the cops when they have your face, license plate number, physical description of your car and even your ID/driver's license info. Even if you get away, you're going to be found very quickly and now there will be half a dozen more charges against you.

I don’t see any legitimate reason for that driver to be afraid of that officer. The cop was just talking to him and the driver decided to take it to another level of what I would call attempted murder.

Yelling at innocent bystanders and telling them to get down on the ground isn't a great way to increase rapport with a community. That girl, who had nothing to do with the situation at all, is now going to have a much more negative opinion of cops because of this situation.

If a cop says "I smell weed", you say, "bullsht, you're lying, call your supervisor, you lost your privilege to talk to me, Ill wait till they arrive."
Then when the supervisor shows up, you tell them "the officer is fishing, you haven't done anything illegal, you're not in possession of anything illegal, and you'd like to be on your way."
Then the supervisor will usually let you go... unless they're crooked too...which happens.

Yes he absolutely broke the law immediately after the cop violated his constitutional civil liberties rights. The officer had no reason to follow him into the gas station and the officer had no reason to be sniffing around his car. The term we're looking for here is called profiling.

If you don't know the US Supreme Court has determined that a "smell " of something is not legal to order a search of your person or vehicle. All searches based on smell are null and void

There are no actual laws that prevent cops from muting or stopping recording. There are thousands of cop body cam video showing cops muting and disabling their cameras prior to the call ending. By call ending I mean when the scene is cleared by PD and police units are returning to patrol. I completely disagree with what you said

The kid did what the officer instructed him to do and handed the bag over attempting to trust the cop, and the cop did exactly what he said he wasn't going to do. "I don't care about a little weed" but then escalated the situation by demanding the kid exit the vehicle.

I new a guy like this. Grew up with the mom and grandma. Good family. Grandma passed and left the mom money. 5 years later mom passed. 22yo inherits the 80ish grand. Chose drugs over school. Bough a Maserati and and 2 years later in jail for felony drug charges. This is so sad. I truly believe these youths need a strong male role model. This video reminds me so much him.

My guess could be that perhaps she was buying weed from him. That or she interacted with him in some way, so they need to ask what was said and what happened between them. They could suspect her as an accomplice or who knows what else. There are a million possible reasons why she could be a subject of interest.
