#Sintra is a Portuguese city located 25 km northwest of Lisbon. The perfect harmony between nature and the city's heritage led #UNESCO to classify the city as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity, in the cultural landscape category, in 1995. The #Regaleira Palace is an architectural ensemble located in the Historic Center of Sintra (Portugal), a city declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. References to alchemy, #freemasonry, and the #Templars are numerous both in the architecture of the palace and in the design of the park that surrounds it.
The #NationalPalace of Sintra - also known as Palácio da Vila and also called #RoyalPalace - is one of the main landmarks of the city of Sintra in Portugal; its two 33-meter-high white conical chimneys give it a very unique silhouette and therefore make it the symbol of the city. Very probably built on the foundations of the residence of the Muslim walis, it was the palace of the Portuguese kings from the time of the Christian Reconquest. However, it is to Don João I (1356-1433) and Manuel I (1469-1521) that we owe the major works that gave the palace the general appearance it presents today. Shaken by the great earthquake of 1755, it was immediately rebuilt "in the old fashioned way", according to the term of G. Baretti, an Italian traveler who visited it five years after the disaster.
