  • Imperial Underground Sprinkler Company served the irrigation industry for the last third of the 20th Century. Their patents, their unique, durable product line, and their geographical location make them worthy of a longer form video (after a lot more research is done), but I wanted to share this video of a standard mid-20th Century approach to watering beds that I think is very cool looking. Specifically, we have an Imperial 15 NH brass nozzle on an Imperial CSA shrub adapter that has been sweated onto a copper riser. The nozzle performs very well, and the riser and adapter are still in perfect condition decades after their initial installation. I hope you enjoy the video, and thanks for watching!

Very nice imperial spray head with great coverage!!…I like the tall riser that it’s on. I have not seen to many imperial products on the west coast, so this is a treat to see..

Thanks! I’d wondered if they’d done well in that very crowded market out there.

Interesting spray head design. I think the angle of the spray is a little high, but they must have felt that was optimum for best coverage. Thank you for sharing such a variety of designs.

Thank you. True, this one has a high angle, and any breeze plays havoc with it as a result. Most manufacturers, including Imperial, also recognized the need for other trajectories, and even flat sprays early in the manufacturing of these brass nozzles.

That's a very nice spray head, I have not heard of the Imperial Underground Sprinkler Co. before. The spray head has a nice gentle pattern. The copper riser gives it an attractive appearance, the copper riser could also be attractive to copper thieves if installed in a vulnerable location.

That’s true. Same with the brass nozzle. Buckner came out with Coal Brass to make them look like plastic while performing like brass because of its salvage value.

@@antiquesprinklers Ah, that's interesting they were able to make them look like plastic to disinterest scrappers.

Hi Bill, have you done anything about it, or is RUclips now perfect? I see this clip with German subtitles. Great! I'm a bit lacking in ambition at the moment. I could actually report something entertaining on the subject of spray nozzles "Made in Germany".

Hello, Gisbert! That is all RUclips’s doing. My own translations would no doubt amuse and annoy native speakers of Deutsch. I hope to soon be watching you expound on the virtues of Deutsche Messingdusen (my very own noun!)
