  • In this video, I try out a team built by 2017 World Champion Ryota Otsubo featuring one of the brand new Paradox Pokemon, Sandy Shocks! Sandy Shocks can deal large amounts of damage, especially with a Booster Energy, and has unique coverage in this format. The team also utilizes Assault Vest Scizor, Sitrus Berry Brute Bonnet, and more!

I think it was a very famous basketball player who said something like that :
Being the best doesn't mean you never lose. It means taking the most out of your losses every single time so you get motivated to do better the next time. If you want to get better than anyone at anything competitive, start by losing a lot. With the good mentality, that's how you improve the most.

I've been working on an Iron Treads focused team. Lead pincurchion for surge to set terrain, which activates a defense boost and electric seed on treads who starts dropping body presses. Arboliva in the back, built bulky, which we can hit with Iron treads' earthquake to set put grassy terrain. The kicker is the not often seen move of Steel roller on Treads to destroy and electric or grassy terrain for a 130 base power steel move, or to tear up Indedee's psychic terrain! I'm excited to try it out, still eving and hyper training atm

    Hear me out:
This exact team, but Tera Bug on Sandy Shocks.
    Think about it:
What is Sandy Shocks weak to? Ground, Water, Ice and Grass.
    Bug resists Ground and Grass!
Why not Tera Grass instead? It would resist Ground, Water AND Grass! But you'd still be weak to Ice (Think Iron Bundle).
With Bug you don't resist Water, but on top of Ground and Grass you also resist Fighting. Resisting those scary Close Combats would help a lot!
In the battle here against the Tera Fire Great Tusk, it couldn't haven't dealt any good damage (they don't run Terra Blast, trust me! *sweats a little*), but Sandy Shocks could've still hit back with that hard Earth Power!
Speaking of Fighting: Iron Hands. The optimal play is to always Close Combat or Drain Punch into Sandy Shocks, since it's usually immune to Electric. And if that happens, and you become Bug then... boom! Now you resist Fighting, take no damage and knock out that Iron Hands! Grass would still be hit for neutral.
Or in this video at the end against the Dondozo: Tera Bug would've resisted Earthquake, leaving Sandy Shocks at enough HP to potentially survive multiple Muddy Waters and beat the Tatsugiri and Garganacl combo. (Let's uuh... Ignore Garganacl's super effective Salt Cure for a moment...)
Fire, Rock and Flying would be Sandy Shocks' new weaknesses, but Ground and Electric threaten all of them, and its original typing resists both Flying and Rock already, so rarely you'd see them used against it in the first place.
And compared to Grass' Ice weakness, the Rock weakness isn't that big of a deal. Salt Cure and Rock Slide are really the only common Rock moves used these days, both not really really used for damage.
But I can feel you still being sceptical. 'Grass would've been just as good!' I hear you say.
But what you are forgetting is the potential offensive benefits for Sandy Shocks!
While Substitute can be a very effective way to get more value out of a turn or two, imagine running Bug Tera Blast!
    ...No really, think about it.
There's only one type in the game that resist both Electric and Ground, that's Grass, which can normally hit Sandy Shocks for super effective damage.
But Bug hits Grass for super effective damage AND resists it!
From what I've seen Tera Grass is a popular Tera Type for its good resistances (similar to Bug's resistences) and to not be effected by Spore and Rage Powder.
With only Electric and Ground Sandy Shocks is a sitting duck-shaped magnet against Grass Teras, but Bug will give it suddenly a way to hit them for super effective damage!
Imagine a Grass Tera Armarouge threatening Sandy Shocks with Energy Ball, no problem, surprise them with Tera Bug Tera Blast and: now YOU have the upper hand! (outside of trick room I suppose...)
Oh, and you can bring your own Brute Bonnet or Amoonguss to threaten the Grass Tera mon to pull the trigger prematurely and suddenly you're in such a good spot with Bug Sandy Shocks!
If they don't Tera into Grass when you threaten them, hey, now they are asleep, I'd take it.
(Bug also hits Indeedee for super effective damage! *wink wink*)
Honestly, I feel like Grass Teras are more common than a good Substitute. And I'm only half joking here!
Seriously though, I feel like it's rare that a Tera type can give a Pokémon a decent defensive and offensive benefit, Bug could kinda work surprisingly well with Sandy Shocks.
Whether or not you'd rather run offensive Tera Electric or defensive Grass to counter Palafin or something completely different is of course up to you and what you prefer or what the rest of your team looks like.
But in the end, I think Bug could actually work surprisingly well here.

In my opinion, booster energy for an offensive stat generally just isn’t that good cause it’s only a life orb boost, whereas booster energy speed is a choice scarf boost. The difference is that you lose the booster energy by switching out, so you’re better off just going life orb to keep the boost for the whole game.
As for QOTD, MoxieBoosted has some pretty interesting sets. He had a Tera fire slither wing with flame charge and a booster energy speed boost iron jugulis with rain dance that both seemed pretty good

I-- wait, doesn't Brick Break NOT get boosted by Technician?? I thought technician only boosted moves of 60 BP or lower, did Brick Break get lowered from 75?
Like I don't necessarily think it's worth using Close Combat on scizor over BB since the goal of it is presumably to be bulky with Assault Vest, so maybe that doesn't change anything, but...

You can use as many as you want. But i think 2 to 3 on a team is needed for a sorta balance

Spore is annoying. Thats why all the pokemons that know it are slow. The only exception is toedscruel, but it has an "slowing down" ability.
