I've heard everyone, well, almost everyone, the last sixty years since my first opera in 1964. Franco Corelli was the greatest tenor voice I ever heard live. He was the whole package. Voice, voice and more voice allied to a great physical beauty and stage presence.
For some, yes. Not for me, thank you very much. Maybe as Calaf and Dick Johnson he's a standard. Others sing Rodolfo more beautifully: di Stefano, Bergonzi and Pavarotti for starters.

A wonderful video. The Corelli-Cossotto Aida scene was truly exceptional. Corelli was one of the finest Rhadameses ever and Cossotto here was superb’’second only to Simionato and not by much.Rodolfo is not Coorelliàs best role )I prefer Pavarotti clearly= but he always sings well and looks great on stage.Overall a wonderful film.
Unlike heavy duty Wagnerian type of operas, i find light operas more appealing in ways that there are actually actings involved. Nice to see some facial and physical expressions from the actors instead seeing live statues on the stage..
It's funny, as Freni has this shy, uncertain look on her face as Franco sings Che Gelida to her, but as he completes the great high C on la speranza, her face breaks into a broad grin, as if to say, "Gee, if you've got a great top like that, sure I want to be your girlfriend!"
Mario Cantani She was a mezzo -rather obviously - with an impressive upper extension. Unfortunately by the late 70’s she began to flat badly on top. I was lucky to hear her a lot the decade before. The walls shook!
