    Two of my all-time favorite opera stars...It's incredible how much they give of themselves, even in rehearsal! I found this rehearsal performance to be intensely moving,just as is...

    I wonder if this century will see an artist like Giulietta Simionato. She belongs to a league on her own. Simply magnificent.

      Fiorenza Cossotto sounded fresher, younger and more "sexy" than Simionato.
      In 1972 my wife and I had Cossotto in all performances of AIDA in Palermo incl. the dress rehearsal.
      All tickets free from the capo della claque Sg. Lamattina.
      I grew up with the records of Simionato but I never had the chance to hear her personal.
      In our hotel stood Gina Cigna who gave singing lessons.

      She was a chorister at La Scala. She said “ they had Maradona on the bench and didn’t know it” let’s not make the same mistake with some vocal prodigy .. there is still great potential out there …

      If only mezzos were valued to the same degree as sopranos….😩
      I have never heard her give less than 200% commitment to a role, which is more than I can say for a lot of much lauded and probably better paid sopranos.

    A few odd details which I noticed about this amazing document..
    That poor microphone reeeally didn’t appreciate the outburst/assault on it, at 2:22 It completely freaks out at the sound of these two greats. Hilarious
    +I’m totally in love with that upright rehearsal piano. Classic. Sounds like a bar-room piano. And if it could talk, I bet it could tell amazing stories. Wonderful player too!

      Agree. This generation of singers, (I can't bring myself to call them artists), throw themselves all over the stage, make all kinds of faces, sing upside down and in all kinds of positions, but say absolutely nothing with their voices. The golden age of singers knew how to act with their voices and had much more dignity onstage. They didn't need to do all those acrobatics to express themselves and interpret their roles.

      Pavarotti avrebbe dovuto limitarsi al suo repertorio di tenore lirico quasi leggero. Da giovane fu molto bravo, ma poi si notava, forse per gli anni e il fisico, una stanchezza nei fiati. Insomma non saprei valutarlo. Resta che nel campo lirico spinto Corelli è una leggenda!

    Comunque Fiorenza Cossotto è stata una fuoriclasse fra le fuoriclasse. È stata mezzo soprano di potenza eccezionale eppure raggiungeva senza sforzo le zone del soprano. L'interpretazione di AMNERIS e di AZUCENA, in particolare, sono leggendarie. Su RUclips c'è il duetto con RADAMES (Corelli) prima del processo. Due giganti! Nessun eccesso o strappo, ma voci da brivido con pathos mai udito. Anche come SANTUZZA è stata insuperabile, pur senza togliere nulla alla purezza della voce della Simionato, un po' cupa a volte, mi pare.

      @massimocassano2545 Год назад

      Mezzo soprano più acuto , riuscì a cantare anche Macbeth con il Re b ne "La luce langue" Come la Verrett , del resto. In Cavalleria ho ammirato tanto la Obratzova che forse esagerava con i suoni di primo registro, ma del resto erano uno dei suoi punti di forza. Poi ci sono i gusti del pubblico e della critica contingenti al momento storico.a e ' cosa risaputa.
