Two of my all-time favorite opera stars...It's incredible how much they give of themselves, even in rehearsal! I found this rehearsal performance to be intensely moving, just as is...
Fiorenza Cossotto sounded fresher, younger and more "sexy" than Simionato. In 1972 my wife and I had Cossotto in all performances of AIDA in Palermo incl. the dress rehearsal. All tickets free from the capo della claque Sg. Lamattina. I grew up with the records of Simionato but I never had the chance to hear her personal. In our hotel stood Gina Cigna who gave singing lessons.
She was a chorister at La Scala. She said “ they had Maradona on the bench and didn’t know it” let’s not make the same mistake with some vocal prodigy .. there is still great potential out there …
If only mezzos were valued to the same degree as sopranos….😩 I have never heard her give less than 200% commitment to a role, which is more than I can say for a lot of much lauded and probably better paid sopranos.
A few odd details which I noticed about this amazing document.. That poor microphone reeeally didn’t appreciate the outburst/assault on it, at 2:22 It completely freaks out at the sound of these two greats. Hilarious +I’m totally in love with that upright rehearsal piano. Classic. Sounds like a bar-room piano. And if it could talk, I bet it could tell amazing stories. Wonderful player too!
Wow this was awesome. Not only the singing but the stage direction. Today it seems they prefer everyone moving and fidgeting and gesturing for no reason.
Agree. This generation of singers, (I can't bring myself to call them artists), throw themselves all over the stage, make all kinds of faces, sing upside down and in all kinds of positions, but say absolutely nothing with their voices. The golden age of singers knew how to act with their voices and had much more dignity onstage. They didn't need to do all those acrobatics to express themselves and interpret their roles.
I just came across this. It is a once in a lifetime glimpse into the wonder and profundity of the operatic art form. As if I did not need to be further in awe of Corelli and Simianato. Spectacular.,

It is a miracle this film even exists as the performance was never filmed.
I wonder if this century will see an artist like Giulietta Simionato. She belongs to a league on her own. Simply magnificent.

Vocal pedagogy is in deep decline and that is an understatements!

Simionato...what a genius!!!!!!
What a find!!
oh wow, this was a riveting performance.

O.M.G.!!!!!! out of this world!!!
Bravi!!!! La Simionato is simply electrifying! Thanks for this souvenir from the Golden Age of opera!
And she sang in all positions, while Corelli was always upright. : )
@@catbird-dq7ri Ther eis no reason for Corelli not be upright here. It would not fit the story for him to act differently.
Due miti della lirica..❤
Giulietta “La Reina” Simionato... 😎
The ultimate resulting live performance recording is so real! One of my favorites. This live rehearsal clip is just as i imagined. Bravi!
Excelente repasador Alberto Ventura.
I didn't know who the piano accompanist was, thanks for the info, I'll add it to the description.
@@FrancoCorelliInfoCenter Gracias a ti.
Two titans of opera!! Thank you so much for this amazing document!
Bravi!!!👏♥️

He visto esta maravilla tres veces seguidas. ¿Hay más videos de esta representación?
I just came across this.

These people sang like it meant something.
La Simionato was 53 here and sounding magnificent! She had a much longer prime than Fedora Barbieri. Those sets look very much like Zeffirelli's.
Fabulous stuff. not like the creepy productions today.

Inacreditável! Unbelivable.👏👏👏👏👏

Bravooooooo
Magnifici
Wow!
BRAVOOOO 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I would have loved to see him do comedy. He seems to have quite the sense of humor.

I’m surprised Franco would sing a single note at a rehearsal.
Why?
@@Felix73able He was so neurotic about his voice and its preservation.
@@ransomcoates546 good point :)
And he showed up! Di Stefano would suddenly pop up at the dress rehearsal and act as if that were the schedule all along.

Love this both are supreme, but for me cecchele and cosotto just that little bit better, but all are great
