For some people it's just a game, but those years were incredible. I gave my dream a shot by reaching the highest rank, building and coaching my own team, reaching top 16 in contenders, meeting amazing people, getting to work with them and watching the best of the best live living their dream that was similar to mine. Some of the best years of my life and I'm so greatful that this game gave me the opportunity to go all in and just enjoy each moment to it's full potential. I know some people I've had the chance to be around feel the same way about this era and it makes it even more important. If you've been involved in that, I love you. Idk what's next but hopefully we're all going to be as excited about something as we were back then. Right now covid and other stuff kinda ruined a bunch of things for me but it's getting better and I'm getting excited about the future again.
@maman4797 Is that relevant ? I'm doing my own thing rn, not related in any way in the OW scene and unless you were involved in the T3 scene for a while you just never heard of me. I don't pretend to be anyone. It's just a part of my journey :)
@maman4797 That's a very weird choice of word. I'm choosing to not have attention thrown at me which is different from "having trouble". I wouldn't say you're having trouble eating cheese if you just don't want to eat cheese.
It truly could of been something great in the long run but sadly blizzard had to do what they usually do and mess it up. Watching pines old highlights back in 2020 made me get back into the game after a 3 year absence and ive been (regretfully) playing ever since basically non stop. And one final goodbye to Alarm you left us years ago and now the league has as well. But your legacy and impact will never die you were one of the pillars of OWLs prime, rest easy bro
Surefour, Agilities, Kariv, Mickie, Bumper, Bren and Sideshow, Pine, Jake, Moth.........so many great memories from those guys. WIsh I could just go back in time just to experience watching them for the first time again. Bren and Sideshow leaving OWL was real sad, they were great fun. And it's just so incredibly sad that InternetHulk and Alarm are no longer with us. If I was Jay I would keep Hulk on that list as well, that guy was amazing, he was a massive loss to the OW scene-they both were. I'll always keep doing my Rein salute to InternetHulk's tribute in Eichenwalde spawn as well. And it's unreal to think just how amazingly young Alarm was. Both sorely missed.
Been following the league since day one, and I was fortunate enough that I was able to go to Grand Finals in Toronto this year (also got to meet Jay, was a super cool dude). While it may not have been the biggest or most intense Grand Finals, it was by far the most emotional. Everyone there kinda knew it was likely to be the last one, but dammit we made the most of it. This Grand Finals felt like one last hurrah, one more trip 'round the sun. Soe's speech summed it up perfectly just how all of us felt. It was a dream and I'm glad I got to be there to witness it. Getting to see one of my all time favourite players turned caster Custa (he even signed my old-school Valiant colour scheme shoe), being able to meet so many people from the Toronto Defiant and the other teams that made it to Finals, and all the amazing people from Discord servers that travelled from all over the world to come support their teams. We've all made lots of friends along the way and I'm glad I got to meet all these amazing people before it has inevitably come to an end. I'll be honest I didn't stay for soe's speech either but man I'm glad I watched this video, that really hit. overwatch truly has became a core memory for me. I remember not knowing anything of it, until my oldest brother got me into it around 2017-2018. I remember the first hero I had ever played was lucio, and man did it not take me long to start queuing up constantly and wanting to learn more. The part that hurts is that as much as I started getting into the game, I didn't know about overwatch league until this year, 2023, distraught-fully being the last year of OWL. Though this was my first and last year of experiencing such an enjoyable and entertaining esports tournament, I'll never forget the impact overwatch has had on me as a whole.
The new flashpoint game mode would be perfect for the 2CP maps. Expand them, add more points and turn them into flashpoints. Maybe they already scavenged the 2CP maps for other things though I don't really know.
I loved the old Mayhem team… awww man, I remember watching so many of these games live…. Hey remember when they were over on twitch and you could actually watch from certain players povs? Aw the feels 😢
Bro, listen to those crowds during OW1. I honestly believe it's not too late to bring that back... maybe a new event is what's needed. I missed that speech at the end, god damn that hit hard.
@Official_Golden yeah. I know bringing back 6v6 is a nightmare of a task with the engine being mostly redesigned for 5v5 now, and the hero balancing... but if so much of the community is begging, it has to be worth them trying it. Though if they gave up with stuff like story mode so close to completion, I don't have much faith blizzard would commit to doing it.
Seeing the Chat still being deulsional As fuck about "The God" Jeff is hilarious. Guy was the entire reason ow was sinking since he never cared one bit about ow. But yet everyone praises him seemingly forgetting the literal 1 year content pause and millions of things under him.
Crazy how many people hate on iddqd, they guy was genuinely cracked, and today for his age is still crazy good. Also Mickey had the best energy!!! Truly always smiling, it was always a good time watching him.
Watching overwatch 1 clips is sooooo much better than overwatch 2. I really miss the 2017-2019 overwatch league and everything about the game. But sadly after that is when it all went downhill 😔
Fingers crossed Microsoft pulls overwatch out of the ground. I know it’s unlikely, but I have a feeling that there’s going to be so much better things that will happen for the game and the community
im honestly going to miss OWL i rember watching back in 2016 and falling in love with the game due to OWL, and even tho i absolutely hate OW2 i still loved watching OWL, im hopeing world cup will keep that love i had going
If OWL stayed like early OWL itd still be here. I watched first 3 years every weekend. Was wearing my Dallas Fuel shirt yesterday and went to the first Battle of Texas in Dallas in 2020 (before COVID). Was an amazing atmosphere live.
About the 4-0 SF-VT, if I remember correctly it was an insane and unexpected result because Vancouver and SF were very close in G.O.A.T.S and there was a debate about which of the two was the best at the time. Then VT got swept by SF.
Honestly jay. If you could go back and watch the 2022 grand finals on stream now the league is kinda dead I’d do it. It is far and away the best GF match. It was a giga banger of a match
Ow1 streamers be like, "no content. Waaa. Too many stuns. Waaa. Double shield. Waaa. 2cp.waaa. ow2 streamers be like, "Battle pass. Waaa. No flash bang. Waaa. 5v5. Waaa. Push. Waaa." I'm convinced that ow streamers primary content creation is finding something else to complaining about
It’s easier to complain that’s the problem. We live in the age of social media where everyone has a voice and everyone wants to be negative. It’s unfortunate really. I’m on the same boat as you
Im not discrediting any OWL player when I say this, but I feel the top end of skill in OWL has been getting lower and lower over time and when it became 5v5 rosters had to change too much at a lowpoint for it to recover. Once again my opinion, and no dis to any OWL player.
I don't agree with this at all. The current players have an insane level of flexibility and are elite on multiple heroes and have taken hero play to another whole level as compared to S2 or S3 of the league. Just compare Proper or Kevster on Tracer to SBB or Snillo. Or for a better comparison, look at how much more versatile players like Proper, Kevster, Someone, Stalk3r, and Chiyo are compared to their OW1 counterparts.
why do ppl still play this game lol seems completely dead. i had to quit bc i didnt know a single person that played this. ppl all quit bc of how trash it is now
To think how amazing the community is, and then remember Blizzard went and drove the game into the dirt. It's a dang shame
