Hi Andree! I don't have those etudes, but also my specialty isn't jazz. I feel like I wouldn't do those etudes justice as far as nailing the styles, etc. Maybe you could ask Jason Carder if he'd record them! He's amazing and is super knowledgeable. A far better jazz authority than me for sure. Good luck with your preparation!
Hi Fiorenzo! To play in tune, we first have to train our minds to hear where proper intonation really is. The best way to do it is to practice with a drone. I suggest tonal energy. Set the drone to your C (concert Bb), then practice singing slow scales and arpeggios with it. When you can sing it in tune, then play it slowly. Repeat this drill every day in all 12 keys and you'll start to feel really comfortable. Just remember to make it more about your ears (feeling the "in tune" sound in your ear) than your eyes (looking at a tuner). Playing "in tune" with a visual tuner doesn't really help our overall ability with intonation. As Chris Gekker once said, intonation is a social skill in a lot of ways. We need to be able to make quick adjustments depending on the harmonic action around us as well as the pitch of other musicians. It's about distance from other pitches, not about a specific coordinate on a map, if that makes sense. Good luck, and enjoy the process!
