I read a lot of „classic“ tragedies in school but I have to say after growing up Anakin Skywalker is one of the most tragic ones. The way je suffered the way he loved, and in the end with his last act he kills the most powerfull Sith of all time. Yes I am ignoring 7-9.

She died because he tried to save her, which is what the Jedis (especially Obi-wan) have been trying to warn Anakin about the whole time, but his love for Padme was too strong, and their love twisted along with him. What a fucking masterpiece.
the jedi and the aversion to emotions are what drove Anakin to the dark side, he had no healthy way to express emotion within the jedi order
If you think about it, he fell in love with Padme before he became a Jedi. He never had that training to make sure his emotions were in order. That love for Padme was his one weakness and it ended up turning him to the dark side and eventually killing her. Probably my favorite love story in Star Wars ever.

i feel like when anakin turned to the light for luke it's because he saw padmae in his eyes and he could finally die in peace knowing he was truly a good man and a jedi his story is truly heartbreaking if only he could have found his mother in time he would have never went off the deep end and he would still be good. im so grateful that they made anakin good in the end it honestly gave me peace but i wish none of this stuff ever happened to him:(
Luke's eyes are blue - same as her father's but he has the softness and kindness of her mother, Padme. Before ROTJ, Vader saw Padme's last moments where she said that there's still good in him and that softened him too much that he eventually embraced the light at the end for his son. Leia has her mother's eyes but the aggressiveness and determination of her father. 😁
Yeah I wish these bad stuff had never happened to him too. To live a happy life with Padme was all he ever wanted. It is when you see the prequels you get to see who darth vader really is and what made him that. It makes you fall in love with a character that is expected to be hated in the originals more than any character in the history of starwars.

Yeah, but Lucas is a terrible dialogue writer. In the original trilogy the actors did interfere and we got great lines. The prequel actors didn't dare questioning the legend, so we got all of this over the top cheesy lines.

Hayden will always be Anakin. He portrayed such suffering, pain, and torture. He loved his Padme so much. He thought he was doing the right thing, but ended up destroying everything.
The story of Anakin Skywalker is so tragic and sad. He lost his mother, his lover, and he turned on the Jedi order because his mind was poisoned by the dark side and confusion. It’s honestly one of the saddest stories ever written 😢

Not even entirely true, the jedi turned against him first rather. There was a lot of occasions were they betrayed his trust and showed their true colors, some memorables are: The Rako hardeen incident and the ahsoka trial, and them asking him to spy on palpatine was the final nail on the coffin.

We also forget how much Obi Wan had to go through. His love was killed in front of him by Darth Maul, his clone army tried killing him, he couldnt save his master, he had to kill his apprentice and after all of this, he was left alone on Tatooine to take care of Luke. He was the true Jedi, didnt even fell to the dark side after so much happened with him

Hayden Christiansen is so hot. It sucks that he had to deal with all that clunky dialogue and awkward scripting.
He did try to appeal to George Lucas at least once to rewrite Anakin as a more maturely conflicted tragic hero than what was in script, but he was shot down.

A truly great love story. Amazing acting and chemistry from both Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen. I'm grateful for their love story being told through the big screen prequels.
I cried at the end. 😢 Anakin and Padme were so perfect for each other. When he was childish, she was sensible, and when she was anxious, he calmed her down. When she asked if he was alright, he did the same.
I still wish Anakin hadn't become Vader...it was so tragic. He could have raised his children by Padme's side. All he wanted to do was save his wife. Hopefully they found each other in heaven after Return of the Jedi. This is 100% the best and most tear jerking love story of Star Wars. ❤

The Jedi died because they refused to change. They refused to evolve. Anakin was the first Jedi that ever embraced his selfish emotional attachments.
Luke does the same thing, he embraces change. He leaves his training against Yoda and Obi-Wan's advice to save Han and Leia.

I guess this is the reason why they forbid love in the Jedi code because someone can manipulate you by using your love ones. Like Palpatine manipulated Anakin because he knew he loved Palme so in an attempt to defeat Mace Windu, he told him that he can save his wife and Anakin listened and did what he was told to do.
That's why I'm so grateful to the Clone Wars series. We were able to see beautiful scenes of them while being married. It made RotS more tragic though.

The Jedi Council did the right thing. They saw a small glimpse of Anakin's lust for power and they did not want to promote him to master because of that. If Anakin was more "mature" and didn't want to be "better than everyone else" he would have been a master.

If they try to do anything else with the story, it’ll feel artificial and as if they’re just trying to milk more out of it. It’s better left untouched but I wish so bad for her to come back to life somehow.
To me this is the most heartbreaking story. Anakin was SO convinced that joining the dark side would save Padmé that he didn't realize it was going to be the reason she died. And everyone thought he was the chosen one and he could have if it wasn't bc he was so afraid of letting go the ones he loved.

Anakin's story is the most tragic story I've ever heard. He was so full of good and he loved all of the people that he cared about, he was scared that he wouldn't be strong enough to save his wife from dying in childbirth which is what led him to the dark side of the Force. Stupid palpatine had to manipulate him into thinking he could save her, then once Padmè died that's when he had lost everything and he completely turned to the dark side. Anakin couldn't live without Padmè and Luke was the only one who truly brought him back from Vader to the light side again. Even as Darth Vader he still loved her and cared about her. My heart breaks every time. 😭😭

it’s so sad. Anakin’s trauma and past made him into an angry, selfish yet caring person. however, his fear of losing Padme was the only thing that kept them from being together. Palpatine knew this. If Anakin would’ve left with Padme when she asked, and put his fears aside to enjoy what he thought were the last few weeks of her life with each other, she would’ve lived. But he was so corrupted that he was selfish and scared. Instead of doing the right thing for everybody, he gave into his own fear of losing her. He thought he was doing the best thing but knew it wasn’t right. In that way he lost her
This why I cry all the way throughout episode 3. He turns to the dark side because he tries to save Padme. Heartbreaking.

I loved their relationship the most, they truly loved each other 😭😭
I had to keep back the tears near the end, no lie. I feel that anakin/darth vader's back story is far more sad than any other. He lost everything except padme. She was his only oasis. Anakin's deep love for her is what caused his fall. When he had that premonition from the force he would stop at no end to keep it from coming to pass. Sad that all he wanted was to save her but ended up being partly responsible of her death.
Yoda was right. Possession leads to jealousy, and you can’t stop death, you can only embrace it. Anakin loved her too much he wanted to defeat death, but it was the exact events of chasing after that power that led to Padme’s death. That’s why in many tales those who behold power must not have love. They can have unconditional love for the people, but must not posses any individual love.

Yoda's advice was deeply flawed in my opinion, and was indicative of the greatest flaw of the Jedi Order: their arrogance, their ignorance and fear of the dark side, their hypocrisy and blindness, all boils down to the Order's inability to healthily process and understand emotion, for fear of the Dark Side of the Force. To tell a person to *never* mourn, to *never* miss those whom they may lose by means of death is ethically repugnant. For all of Master Yoda's good intentions, he, and all Jedi like him, were fundamentally unable to process or even understand emotion; attachment can lead to jealousy, yes, but only attachment out of moderation. Some aggressive feelings are not inherently evil: anger and rage unprovoked leads to destruction, yes, but a justified and rational contempt and anger for atrocity and injustice is a perfectly appropriate and natral emotional response, so long as it doesn't give way to hatred for hatred's sake.
It is perfectly alright for Anakin to love Padmé, and to be afraid at the prospect of her death. It is *not* okay to let that fear of loss fester into an all-consuming need for control and power, obsessively focused on the goal of preventing the fulfillment of that fear at all costs and by any means - a festering which, given Yoda's poor advice, the Jedi Order's history of mistreating/mistrustin Anakin, and Palpatine's manipulation, was Anakin's only recourse for his dilemma. If the Jedi knew how to truly and healthily deal with positive and negative emotions, and mastered the ability to experience them in moderation instead of comletely abstaining from them and forbidding them for fear of the Dark Side, they would have been
1. Able to act more effectively as Jedi and servants of the Force as they kept the peace.
2. Able to counsel wavering or struggling Jedi, including Anakin, away from the temptation and corruption of the Dark Side, and could train younglings, padawans and knights in the ways of emotional intelligence and discipline.
3. Would not have been arrogant and complacent, which would allow them to use the full extent of their prescient vision and become privy to the machinations of Darth Sidious, thus preventing their and the Republic's destruction.
4. Able to better appreciate the Living Force and those whom it binds together, empowering them to participate in more complete compassion for those whom they are charged to protect.
Also, remember that Vader was not redeemed by means of traditional Jedi orthodoxy, however, it was because Luke was "a Jedi, like [his] father before [him]" that Vader could see through the lies of the Sith, something thought impossible by both Obi-wan and Yoda, who belived that the only possible solution to the conflict was Luke's killing Vader. But because Luke was able to understand, experience, and control his emotions and attachments to both Vader and his friends, Anakin was able to come to himself and bring balance to the Force (yes, I know Rey "actually" kills Palpatine in TROS, but I don't count the sequels as canon).
What I don't get is why is he mad that his WIFE is telling him to be good again and he strangle her to death like wth and forget he has kids.Like you wanted to stop her from dieing in childbirth not kill her....

I think his dream about Padmé it was the force warning him to not fall to the dark side. Cause the future is completely unstable and later we found out that the dream became real because of his bad choices. Thats the reason Ive always thought Jedi Council failed with all Jedi. They didnt provide any help or good advice to them, only bad judgements and a lot of pressure to be the best in the galaxy without any feeling (like robots!!!). Anakin felt the weight of being left alone with a great power he didnt know how to use properly, felt love and fear like every human being and had being misunderstood all the time by them. He didnt want to fall to the dark side but the Jedi were not helping him either!!! When we are desperate we dont think a 100% rationally, we use our instincts for survival. Its possible making a comparison with a suicide case: when somebody is struggling alone with her own problems and gets suffocated by them on a such high level that even her beloved ones cant help her. Lets learn for once it all that Jedi was the path to the dark side or in other words: a path to imbalance.

It was really all Palpatine. Before Anakin was born, Palpatine and Plageius sent out massive waves of dark energy into the universe when they had learned of the prophecy of the chosen one. This large amount of force energy created Anakin. Only real problem was that Palpatine didn't know who this chosen one was until he met Anakin in Episode 1. And then from there, he carefully manipulated every thing. He knew Anakin's weakness was Padme, so when he learned of their relationship, he used the force to create the dreams of her death, further twisting Anakin's mind. Then, he also played on Anakin's doubts of the Jedi's loyalty to him. Then when Anakin was firmly in his grip, he thought everything was done. But he did not forsee Obi defeating Anakin on Mustafar, so in order to save Anakin's life, Palpatine drained Padme's life energy to revive Anakin.
You all are too harsh on the council. I LOVE Anakin and consider his story my favorite in the saga, but Anakin’s issue was that he was always impatient, lusting and wanting more. He wasn’t suppose to be with Padame, he took a vow, and I get love happens and I don’t blame him for it. But Obi consistently tried to tell Anakin to temper his feelings and find a balance. Love without balance can make people emotionally unhinged and make rash decisions and decisions they normally would not do. This is what happened to Anakin, it wasn’t because he felt abandoned or neglected as much as it was he never properly healed and handled the death of his mother, and to have to face that death was possible with Padame terrified him. He was so emotional and attached to the idea of losing someone he loved, that he became consumed by the fear of it and the need to control death. It’s tragic because it highlights what can happen we we are ruled by fear and how much damage we can do when we try to control everything. Anakin became vulnerable, he couldn’t even see how Palaptine was playing his weakness (Padame and his fear of losing her) against him.

Anakin loved her so deeply like actually loved her, as he grew he grew into a very tough man that would look like it’s hard to make him crack a smile. But with her he could joke around with her and love her. It’s sad how he thought saving her would mean to turn to the dark side

For someone who had so much of the Force within him his good heart was his downfall. He was destined to turn to the Darkside. Even without Palpatine, he would have eventually turned to it.
