    Foreflight is the most important app in the world. The safety that comes from the awareness that this product delivers is hard to overstate. From the traffic awareness and advisories, weather information, and flight planning tools it provides, foreflight is worth its weight in gold as it will save your life.
    This video shows how I set up foreflight in my life as a helicopter pilot and flight instructor. The ways in which it provides extreme value to my career and safety and why I advocate that any pilot needs to have it.

    Not all aircraft have ADS-B out and the ones that do will sometimes break and not transmit. It's important to still visually monitor for aircraft because I've seen many aircraft with either no ADS-B or non-functioning ADS-B or intermittent ADS-B

    I upgraded to the mid-tier subscription and with the sentry and my iPad mini I have AHRS with the terrain and sectional on the same screen.

    I LOVE your video and agree with the primary features. The MOST important feature of ForeFlight is your ownship on a chart. That has saved so many lives. Second is having all your charts and supplements with you in a compact and accessible format.

    Great overview. I have two grandsons, age 13 & 15 and they are now planning to become airline pilots. The older one is 'flying the GLEIM' private pilot course and has been flying so the purchase of the Sentry plus, the iPad mini and the Foreflight subscription will allow them to use them both in the air and in their flight simulator they are building (not the Sentry on the ground, but in their training with their instructor),
    Great job and thanks.

    I didn’t realize you get in flight radar with the ads-b in feature. Good to know. I use this daily and agree with every point you made here. And having access to all the instrument plates was huge for me in getting my instrument rating. Worth the subscription. Another feature that isn’t “legal” but can be life saving in a pinch is the AHRS information that the sentry gives you and you can pull up an artificial horizon with a PFD on it so that if you did end up IIMC, you have a fighting chance to recover and get out of the clouds without losing orientation.

      I'd go with the bigger one. ForeFlight takes up a lot of space, depending on how much map data you have downloaded. Nothing worse than not having enough room to get your updates. When there's a new chart update cycle, the required size effectively doubles because there's a period of time where you'll have the old data that hasn't expired yet and the new data that hasn't gone into effect yet, so you have two copies of everything downloaded.

      No! You have to have the foreflight app subscription but the sentry connects to it for free!

    Great review, thank you. I wish Foreflight would support android tablets. I own a very capable Samsung S8 Ultra tablet with 512 Kb of memory. It's kind of painful to be forced to buy an iPad tablet as well before switching to Foreflight.

  • @jason-the-great52
    @jason-the-great52 Год назад +1

    Doesn't Garmin have all 3 of the first things you just said? Why not just get a Aera 760 and be done with it? I don't really get the whole tablet thing. Why would I want a screen as big as a laptop without even half the power? And then everything else can be accomplished by phone. So you're only buying an iPad for foreflight? Just buy an aviation-made tablet. Especially if you're making a career out of it.

    • @jason-the-great52
      @jason-the-great52 Год назад

      Also, would an iPad survive a crash better than the Aera? I don't think it has a chance. If an unfortunate event happens I want a device that might actually get me out of it. Just saying I have seen Ipads break falling 3 feet onto the carpet.

  • @5stardave

  • @jason-the-great52
    @jason-the-great52 Год назад

    I personally would never use Foreflight during a flight, just googling iPad catches fire on a plane will show you why. This is why I suggest the Garmin tools because they are not known for blowing up on airplanes. While flying I would put them in a thermal bag and only use them in emergency situations. I would much rather get lost from a bad GPS than be in a cockpit on fire that I cannot do anything about, especially with oxygen being rapidly burned away.
