My absolute favorite piece of all time is schubert's 8th unfinished symphony in b minor. I listen to it so many times I can sing each individual part it's soooo good!
The kid isn't literally attacked by the earlking, he has fallen illl and is having feverdreams. The earlking serves as a methaphore for his imminent death. The moment that the earlking touches him is the moment he succumes to his illness. Also, the father is aware that his son is having feverdreams, and is very disturbed by them.
Allysia you have changed my mind about how I feel about Schubert! I'm going to give his music another chance (Fyi I don't link the Trout quintet or the Lieder I've heard). However bc I respect and love your videos I'm willing to try again.
Videos like this are missing from online piano education! Your videos are always fantastic. Any chance of some more general piano/music theory videos or a recommendation of how we can advance our music theory knowledge?
You said we’d only listen to a few moments of the Impromptu but I noticed you kept playing it in the background which was nice. It really IS that beautiful and deserves a listen.
Due to this video i also understood finally what is the exact time signature in the Schubert Gb major Impromtu because in my sheet music there are two C with line accrossed(two c with one line through on each other i don't how should i write down this in english)so i wasn't exactly sure if it's 2/2 or 4/2, you are literally the only one who could make this clear for me here in youtube so thank you very much😅
most people talk about the Unfinished when they mention schubert's symphony, that was a surprise. Ave Maria is good too. My fav out of short pieces is standchen/senerade :d
Oh, so sad. I was expecting to hear Der Leiermann, I love the soul bearing quality of that song. Especially when Thomas Quasthoff & Daniel Barenboim performed it
Schubert wrote over 600 liter. I'll round up to about 750 liter. Schubert wrote somewhere around 1k bottles of wine worth of songs. Already love him. Lol (God, i hope my understanding of the metric system is accurate...)
If you mean d957 which i think you do, i wouldnt include that on the toplist, bestknown to the general public but certainly not his best work. If you mean d889 i'd say that makes more sense. I wouldnt include ave marian for same reason. But erlkonig is proper.
No singer? Can't be a song. (Although the Mendelssohns did write "songs without words", which are simple pieces (PIECES!) that sound like they SHOULD be sung.)
It’s not Americans, it’s the malign hand of iTunes. In the words of Sellar and Yeatman, “evry fule no“ that music is solely comprised of songs, and that all you need to know about a song is its title and the performer. What, you want to know about composers, soloists, conductors, orchestras? And you’re telling me that some songs are really several songs bundled up into something you call a symphony or a sonata? What sort of a nerdy detail freak are you? 😛
I am a huge Schubert fan. I feel like he is underrated.
Der Erlkonig is my absolute favourite of Schubert’s lieders. Always gives me the goosebumps ❤❤❤

That impromptu is one of the most beautiful and saddest things ever.
Probably my favorite composer who ever lived. Gretchen am Spinnrade is a current favorite :)
The erlking is hands down the best song ever written. Thank you for doing this. Sehr schön
Gretchen am spinnrad is a very similar song and i like it better.
Fabulous synopsis !
Beautiful presentation! ❤ 😊
Schubert my baby Schubert... He's my fav ❤❤ Wanderer Fantasy is the soundtrack of my life...
Thank's a lot for these kind of videos❤️
Thank you! you are such good story teller, teacher, and refreshing.
Thanks for this great video. I always loved the Winterreise and learning more about Schubert’s overall body of work was super interesting 👌
Love me some Schubert!
Sorry for the late video! It was getting blocked in some countries (curse you The Trout). PS: Sorry Germany. Everything is on the blog though!
These videos are my new favorite thing.
The “Trout” Quintet is one of my favorite pieces of music.
knowing that i am 30 and haven't done shit with my life and Franz here did 1500 pieces of music and died at 31. TF AM I DOING lol
You still have one more year left to compose 1501 pieces. GET TO IT! jk
@@aadhityaanu composing 1500 pieces in 1 year..... impossible
@@otakuxgirl6 I can easily do that. 5 measures per piece
@@gsm5104 big brain
A year later ...has any thing changed?
Great job..

Thanks! I'll take that into consideration.

P.s. I'm a hobbyist classical guitarist who grew up on classic rock so all music is like food or air to me. So my motto is Bach n Roll !!!!!
I really love your videos!
Schubert is an absolute favorite of mine. I suppose my favorite piece of his is the famous Serenade. I suppose it is this one: Ständchen, D 889
Ich denke eher D 957.
Wow 😲 Impromptu in Gb is so romantic, I'll sure play this on my proposal day 😁
I would use it as the processional. None of that Wagner stuff.

THANKS SO MUCH for this video

Thanks for this--no other bios here discuss much about specific works.

Seek out “the hurdy gurdy man “ sung by Peter Pringle”
Ur SO GOOD IM UR BIGGEST FAN
Very good but I feel like you could have mentioned his Sonatas. They are also very beautiful.
Agreed!
the first quintet with a quartet and piano was by schuman after schubert's.
Schubert wrote over 600 liter. I'll round up to about 750 liter.

how can i find more history videos from composers by you?
what are the tags used?
Very interesting
A lot of people love Schubert but don’t know that they love him, know what I’m saying?
No uhmm not really?
Nice, but "The Unfinished" is so brilliant.
you should've talked about Serenade it's a monument in Shubert's life, anyway, good video
Agreed. Serenade is so beautifully written

14:05 what she said (literally)
I am not a great fan of the Trout quintet, but the Quintet with 2 cellos, D956 is beautiful, as well as his last quartets N° 13 to 15.
erlkonig is my favorite
Name of exact piece at 9:30??
I wish they had music notation softwares in those days 😂
Schubert would have been able to hear his 9th symphony a little bit.
Who's the person who sung Der Erlkönig?
Who sang Der Erlkönig?
I could have sworn I saw Donald Trump 14:29
you did.
Two more to mention: 21st piano sonata and arpeggione sonata
How could you not mention piano sonatas?
TRUMP TROMBONE 14:29
Such a beautiful woman
Why would they react like that? This us well after Beethoven’s Ninth which is an hour or more long. Symphony’s could be king at that 😊point.
Talk segments should take a backseat to performances.
Any people under 13?!?! P.S I love ur vids
I'm 13
31? so short
No singer? Can't be a song. (Although the Mendelssohns did write "songs without words", which are simple pieces (PIECES!) that sound like they SHOULD be sung.)
Dem imprhomchooz tho....
I don’t get this thing about Americans calling everything a song. A song is something you sing. A Lied is a song but a symphony is not a song!
She's Canadian. Just sayin' .

This woman needs to get her facts right it’s very misleading
