LYRICS:
For fuck's sake
We living life like a bubble wrapped ape
She came to mind when I treble that bass
I’m tired of playing the good black
I said I’m tired of playing the good black
I’m tired of having to hold back
I’m tired of wearing this hallmark for some evils that happened way back
I’m tired of blaming the white man
His indiscretion don’t betray him
A black man can play him
Some white men are black men too
Niggah to them
A gentleman to you
Some white men are black men too
Niggah, Ohwae Owhae
Awake
Watch your body
Wash itself
Baptise baby
I bath in blood
Dare be told
I seldom do surrender
God forsaking no good do-good-er It’s all out
Out in the open
Looking for the wild one
Boy I’m fragile
Choke on bones while choking stone
You knock me or your miss me
Or you miss me
Niggah, Ohwae Owhae
Awake
Old rock n roll
Not what you’ve been sold
Congo square is open for business
I was there as god is my witness
There you fucking go
(So there you fucking go)
Saw these dudes live in DC. Top performance. The energy unmatched. I saw dents in the cymbals during set up and knew i was in for a show. Took a pic with Kayus after the show 2. ill shit
Black. White. Man. Woman. Adult. Child. Young. Old. Were all people.
Some just happen to be artists. Like these boys. They know what they're doing and how to do it.
Mint tune
More people should know them and buy their albums/go to their shows. This album is magnetic.
Fantastic and powerful video, strong and bold lyrics, perferarating and heavy music, all representing the group's point perfectly. 10/10 Young Fathers.
So Strong!! Damn!

I am a fan from the first note. Love the young fathers.!
From across the pond-- inspiration-- like in the '60s
Oloff is the biggest sensation since Hitler. Except this time it's in a good way.
That's what I like. Originality. Not much of it anymore.
many are.
You just gotta look harder
Old rock and roll, no es lo que nos vendieron.
Hypnotic.
This tune is fuckinamadafekeratru zajebiste kurwa korrea miko kace sa z toba.
Wonder if the actual tune was playing when they recorded the vid
Raw and awesome!
Great stuff ! I wouldn't call this hip hop. Just great stuff. Interesting lyric. There is no white and black man humans , just shades and features on a spectrum . Although, following the lyric, I guess you could also say some black men are white men, too : For example Condoleeza Rice . Skin slightly darker than the global average, but I would say he has the features of what most people would describe as a white man.
I think this is more about the constructs of "white" "black" and "race" in general. They're saying that white people can be treated the way black peoples have historically been treated. For example the Irish were colonised, culture taken away from them and starved by the British the same as what happened in parts of Africa. In Ireland and Scotland working class people are treated in some ways the way black people in the United States are treated by the police and government. The reverse is also true that some people with dark skin can't act like a "white man" by mistreating others (I.e. Colourism, atrocities etc). All humans are capable of good and evil regardless of skin colour. Race doesn't exist, although racism obviously does. There is only ethnicity.
wayyyyyy better than elvis
Excited if ya hot more coming for the future.
Everybody is everybody and everything is everything. 🤘🏿💪🏿
I'll never forget the first time I heard Doing It Stealthy by Oloff. I thought "wow, this is great, but it's nowhere near as great as some of his other great hits like I Don't Breathe, Beating the Heart, or his Send for Phil Vickery."
Rumour has it that one time Oloff was sat next to Jar Jar Binks on a flight. Jar Jar kept kicking the chair in front of him and generally being obnoxious, nobody knew what to do. Eventually one of the flight attendants came over and asked Oloff if he would perform one of his songs to calm Jar Jar down, and when Oloff began rapping the first verse to Doing It Stealthy, Jar Jar immediately relaxed. To this day the two are still close friends.

What do these lyrics mean? ( I'm tired of blaming the white man / a black man can play him / some white men are black men too )
It *could* be a social commentary that white men are blamed for slavery despite that slavery is still present and flourishing in Africa in the modern age:
face2faceafrica.com/article/slavery-africa-today
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery_in_contemporary_Africa
So, yes, black men can (have and still do) "play" the role that the white man is accused of, which is that of the slaver of black men.
And there has also been a history of white men forced into indentured servitude (in the case of the Irish by the British in the 1800); if not straight-up captured and sold as slaves (by the Arabs, Berbers and Moors 12th-17th centuries). So there are white men today who are the decedents of _slaves_ , not slavers. So some white men are black men too.
Humanity, by and large, have all partaken in the sick game that is war and slavery. There's been both slaves and slavers throughout history in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. From the largest empire to the smallest island nation; humanity has often placed the captives of war to do the hard work, rather than their own people.
We are all the same: black men are white men, white men are black men. They, like the rest of humanity, are equally wicked and good. They, like the rest of humanity, are all the same.
I think the line "some white men are black men too" has a similar meaning to the SNL Black Jeopardy skit with Tom Hanks. Working class and poor white men have a lot in common with black people. Here's a link to the skit. ruclips.net/video/aDlhxTm8YEA/видео.html
the absence of the white guy throughout almost the whole video made me think first that he had been eaten. I'm glad he's still with us 2:32 ))
+shaxan yh his name is G Hastings mate.
+Karan Thind I have so much love for G. He's such an angry legend on stage
Polly Anna Steiner Yes absolutely reminds me of the great Ian Curtis. The energy all three feed off each other is jaw dropping feels like a anarchy. Need see them again when they support Massive Attack next month.
+Karan Thind Indeed, astute comparison. I have been staring at those very same tickets. Massive Attack were amazing when I saw them last too. Not a fan of arena shows or the huge price tag. Last April I saw Young Fathers at Gorilla in Manchester, for almost a sixth of the ticket cost. The sound quality and intimacy of the venue far exceed the arena. A strange and sad inversion of what you'd expect your money to buy. If you do get to that gig let me know how they play.
This is exactly it ! i held off from purchasing the ticket because of not only the price but also i feel they are most alive in a small sweaty venue. I first saw them at XOYO in London and it was incredible hands down my favourite gig ever, then again at KOKO which was a pleasure but still prefer XOYO. I hope they do something similiar again later in the year.
💓
Transcendent.
I've never actually seen a black man do rock actually? Not Jimi Hendrix, like some other black guy do rock.
Jorge Medina Lenny Kravitz?
Kele in Bloc party? ?? 😂
Simon Edgbaston T-that's it?! Come on man!
Fishbone, Death (Detroit band), Bad Brains, Pure Hell, Follow For Now, Living Colour, TV On the Radio...there is a large-ass amount of them, but a majority just didn't make the mainstream. Hell, throw in Slash and Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, if you wish.
chuck berry, bo diddley, sister rosetta tharpe (not a man but u get the point), n little richard pretty much invented rock n roll, so there's that. phil lynott from thin lizzy, prince (duh), tom morello, gary clark jr, brittany howard from alabama shakes (again, a black woman), it's really not hard to come up with these
Just stop being weird
+kuraco dkrave not weird
No. Them being weird makes this Go Hard!!
kuraco dkrave hell no
This is crazy. In a good way.
