Would this work on a 2005 CVT Honda Civic Coupe HX? It looks exactly like the Output Speed Sensor for my car
Hi. When u ask if this will work on 05 civic hx. Not sure what a civic hx is.
If u have a bad speed sensor all cars will act the same.
is the same part# not sure.
Things need to know. Year, make, model. Eng size 1.7 or 2.0l. is it a automatic or manual transmission.
What code if any do you have?
You can go to www.rockauto.com put in your vehicles information and the click on the electrical section.
Then Go down to speed sensor and look for output or input depending what sensor you need.
Need more details to understand whats going on
Thank you for the detailed explanation.
I am still struggling to get this fixed.
Code. P0793 accord 2013
Did the transmission fluid change.
Installed new speed sensor.
Still not able to shift to high gear or rev. More than 4000 rpm.
Engine light on and the scanner reads the same code.
Could this be an issue with the installation? Or the bad new sensor?
Hi. Your welcome. Make sure the sensor is totally & fully pushed in as far as it can go. Turn the 10mm bolt slightly and reset check eng light to see if it helps. That code normally means there is no signal from the sensor being picked up as it sits in its hole. My true experience has been that once i turn the 10mm retainer nut/bolt a slight hair to drive the sensor down so that the gear in that hole can read the magnet part of the sensor. This usually fixes that code for me
Thank you again. Just want to make sure that I am using the right part here. Is it 28810.RJ2 for this code P0793 ?
Hi. The part# you gave me looks correct. 288810J2-003 and long as u gave the dealer the right info or they gave you the correct sensor it looks to be good. Keep in mind the part number for the input & output trans speed sensor are 2 different numbers. The dealer will want to run some expensive Diagnoses. The problem lies in the gear not being ablt to read that magnetic head of the new sensor. Did u try turning the bolt slightly to push the sensor down?
If it was working right before it failed then thats the problem as the sensor sounds like its not being picked up. FYI. I have had the dealer sell me bad sensors in the past
@@avery214j I will tighten the bolt and see if that fixes it. Thank you!
Would this code and sensor failure cause the speedometer to not work? Thats the issue I am having.
Thanks
Yes!!!!

Thank you for the reply.
It seems the sensor might be ok but it looks like mice have eaten parts of the wires by the harness that is located drivers side of the engine block.
I need to take out the air filter housing and examine the extent of the damage further.
Edit: yep, GD mice!!!
@tonesmith909 np
If you’ve noticed that it only acts when the car is all the way warmed up try changing you transmission fluid. I replaced the sensor and cleaned the connector, cleared the code and it the code still came back. Changed out my transmission fluid then cleared the code again and I haven’t had an issue since.
@@texmexpv
Mice chewed up a good bit of wires, including the wire to the sensor, Im sure thats the problem.
Car has been sitting for almost a year with only periodic starts.
I’ll post back if that is indeed the problem, either way I have to fix those wires, one is completely severed
Thank you so much for this information! I have this same car and it has been a nightmare! Do you know if the solenoids are replaceable on this transmission? I am getting code P0796, solenoid c stuck off. TIA
Hi
Your welcome. Yes and just about every moving part on the transmission including the valve body is replacable. Yes Honda didnt do well with this car. Lucky im a mechanic and have replaced just about everything on the car. Lol
GoodLuck
I would start with replacing the transmission fluid. Watch the amount you take out as you want to roughly try to put the same amount back in. Also look in the pan after you drain the trans fluid. Look to see if you have any metal shavings in the fluid. If yes possible eng damage. I say possible only.
Also how is the car driving? Shifting?
My bad u want to replace the transmission filter too as a clogged filter can cause this code. It could also be the transmission pump failing.
I just installed this new sensor in my 2016 Accord and I’m still getting the same transmission issues. Do I have to reset the codes? I couldn’t find a forum post explaining if I had to do a reset or if I could just replace the sensor. Thank you.
Yes all check engine lite codes must be reset and removed from the cars computor . U can try disconnecting the black cable from battery for 20 min. If code returns u must reset w a scanner. This is if u dont have one
Also is it the same code or a different code now that you have replaced the sensor
@@avery214j currently I don’t know. I do not have a OBD tool to reset the code so I will have to ask a friend.
When we ran the scanner on it last time it showed that the center was bad. Honda also verified this, but they wanted to charge me $900 to fix it.
Ok. Need to know all codes. But the codes must be removed because thats whats stuck in the cars computor right now until erased
Also autozone or amazon has a cool scanner for like $60. It reads wheel abs codes and tells you exactly which wheel has the issue. Resets those codes too. Reads and resets OBD2 codes too. Its called INNOVA-3040 if u decide to look into it. Very reliable in-expensive scanner
I have a 2017 accord that a did a clutch and fly wheel to. Somehow my speed sensor got chewed up and broke off and is now inside my trans. Any thoughts of what to do??
Hi
I would get a pick set from Harbor frieght. Thats to try and pull outward. If possible get a drill or angle drill and slowly drill it out. Dont go too deep. Watch a video on drilling it out.
1) drill hole
2) force hooked pic into drilled hole and slowly work it out. This will take time.
3) if all else fails. Transmission or auto shops as they will get it out
If part of the sensor fell in the transmission. Transmission shop
@@avery214j I was going to separate the trans from the bell housing and see if I can clean it out.
Ok. If you know how to do that then u have a better chance at trying to clean it out. Make sure you add trans fluid directly back to the t-converter if you take that stuff apart. Goodluck
@@avery214j got it. Thanks.
Hi my accord 2003 has a issue in which the D light keeps blinking, and gets temporary fixed when we restart the car. What could be the issue? Speed sensor? When it blinks it shifts at a high rpm and doesn't reverse. But upon restarting it gets normal
Hi what chk eng lite do u have? When u say it doesnt reverse what does that mean exactly? BLINKING D means a bad speed sensor & u have 2. It could a bad trans fluid temp sensor but all of those things should throw a code. 1 of those sensors could be failing or have DIRTY transmission fluid causing the issue. Often particles from old trans fluid will gather at the bottom of the sensor and keep in mind all sensors are nothing more than magnets at the bottom end opposit the connectors head. Try changing trans fluid and remove & clean the sensor (s) that threw the code in question
Bad output speed sensor
I have a 08 honda accord v6 and the d light blinks with no check engine light on and my rpm go high then it catch gear. But when I cut my car off the d light stop blinking .. someone said to add transmission fluid or it could be my transmission pressure sensor is that true ????
I recommend this first. Replace the trans fluid specially if its old. Particlrs from old fluid can collect on the bottom of the sensor as its a magnet. Those particles when built up will keep the transmission speed sensor and or trans temp sensor from being read correctly by the gear in the transmission
Sometimes you have to also take the sensors out & clean off all the metal stuck to the sensor cus the sensors bottom is nothing more than a magnet
Hi I put atf instead of hcf2 into the cvt and then am having this issue after a few months, do you think the tranny is beyond repair or do you think the sensor will fix it? The code was p0793
Well two things are happening. The wrong fluid doesnt work with your tranee causing this code. Bad timing & the sensor just died.
I would try & replace the sensor first. If its driving the tranee is ok but sounds like dirt & or the wrong fluid isnt working 2gether or like i said the sensor died. I would replace the fluid with the correct fluid & replace the sensor with a HONDA brand. The cvts dont like cheep sensors.keep in mind depending on how much fluid you put in. The torq converter holds most of your trans fluid. So if changing the fluid your only removing but so much.
Also try removing sensor. Clean it off & re-install. Make sure you push the sensor all the way in if you clean it off. Dirt trapped at the magnet part of the sensor can cause the signal to be blocked thus the computer cant talk to the sensor. Dirty fluid can easily cause this code. Goodluck
Is it in the same spot for a manual transmission?
Hi
Look with a flashlight and you will have the answer. I would think so but dont know anyone who drives a manual trans.
Just curious. Did u look and is it in the same spot?
@@avery214j
Yes, its there.
The blue one is not next to it though.
Ok
Yea and the connector to the sensor is angled differently rather than straight forward
Will this sensor overhit your engine
Hi and the answer is no. Lack of oil or antifreez will cause your eng to overheat. That sensor is related to your transmission only. You could also have a stuck open thermostat or a jammed closed thermostat which can also cause your eng to overheat.
Is this sensor can cause this code p0962?
Hi. That codes means you either have low transmission fluid. (Change) fluid first to see if this fixes issue. Reset light. It also could mean u have a bad valve body inside the transmission or bad wires or the sensor itself may have failed. Just google what does p0962 mean and read
@@avery214j thank you very much. I really appreciate the help
I couldn't find anything on Google about the scanner got this code p0962 drive pulley pressure control valve circuit low voltage
