Good question! I don't get sick that often but when I do, I can sing down to a C1 like it's nothing. During the time I recorded "Sweet Little Jesus Boy", I was just getting over a cold but wanted to get that video out before the holidays. You can here the timbre is a bit darker and sonorous.
Wow, great to know that! u should make Godzilla's roars for future movies lol , I love my voice when I'm sick too, it always sounds better for most people no matter who u are, I should get intentionally sick before I record my band's album xD
As a rule, I don't record when I have a cold because it's really not my "true" voice but if I think of it the next time, I'll record myself for all to hear.

Eric Hollaway I hadn’t done much research on the soundtrack and I assumed that the singing on it was artificially changed to hit deeper notes because I thought there’s no way in hell that someone has that deep a voice. Amazing job on it and it’s insane that someone who can go that low can also go so high. Amazing work!

He breaks into falsetto at the G4. Very cool low notes. My own lowest note is only at Eb2 at mornings so this guy sings an octave lower.. That is sick! :)

On a good day I can reach as low as A1, but I've noticed that my lower limit has increased since I startet practicing, maybe one day I'll get closer to what you can do!
Hello mr. Hollaway. Your voice has really amazing weight and timbre! Do you remember where your lower register limit was when you were 17? I'm untrained and my limit in chest voice is D2. Is it possible that my voice will drop to true bass?
+Bart Rythm and Blues Thank you Bart! At 17, I was only thinking about graduating HS and flying off to Basic training. It was years later that I even thought about my register or it's limits. lol! I'd say it is definitely possible for your voice to drop but there are so many factors that come into play, most of all...genetics. Deep voices run in my family but mine seems to be an anomaly even in that regard. Only time will tell for sure. Thanks for your support!!
+Eric Hollaway -The Voice Thank you so much for answer! Now I will focus more on subject made by devil (math) XD. Thank you again. Wish you and your family the best!
No problem. I can tell you this though...by 17 I had achieved my goal of matching the deepest voices I knew inmusic at that time; Richard Sturban of The Oak Ridge Boys, Melvin Franklin of The Temptations, and Harold Reid of The Statler Brothers.
George Bakewell I'm a tenor, but for some reason I speak in the bottom of my range (generally around E2, my lowest chest note being a strained C2). I dont know why that is.
George Bakewell nope, I checked with tuner. I am a dramatic tenor though, so by definition I have a solid low range. But the thing is that even though I speak in that range, when I sing it it does not sound resonant at all.
This is astounding :) you should be very proud of yourself for both your vocal range and for your hard work and dedication to refine your voice to sound this nice.
All of techniques to sing lower (such as growl, subharmonic, vocal fry, ingressive phonation) don't sound really naturally, so I rather to sing low notes with chest voice. So I can get lower notes naturally.
did you do anything to train your voice ?or did you have any unhealthy habits like smoking in the past? or was it always just that low and if you did have training please share I want a voice like yours and btw your voice is one of God's greatest gifts
Thank you Kalin! I give all credit to God for this unique voice He gave me. My voice dropped at the age of 12 and has been deep and rich ever since. At 27, I had my first voice lesson as a Voice major in college. That lasted for 2 years. I'm 50 now and have always taken pretty good care of my voice. Never been a smoker and I refrain from hanging out in bad atmosphere areas i.e. clubs, campfires, smokers, harsh weather, etc.. I appreciate your support!
That F1 is so clean! I love seeing other really low basses but I get jealous when they have just a few notes below me (bottoming our at a g#1 on a good day and consistently having a b flat 1)
I'm impressed! You've got a great range! I'm also a bass, and I've also got a huge range, from C2-C6 at my extremes. I don't meet too many people with full four-octave ranges like I do, but when I do, it's so cool!
Yep! The four-octave-range club is small indeed! I mostly sing bass, but I also enjoy singing soprano in my head voice/falsetto. I used to have a roommate who is a soprano with a similar four-octave range (C3-C7), and she and I would have range contests all the time!
Chaosdude7111 Here are 4 easy steps that may lower your vocal range. I can’t guarantee this will take you to the level of Basso Profondo, but what have you got to lose? 1. Think about a comfortable high pitch to start on - hear it in your head first.2. Initiate the pitch with the mind picture of an elevator starting in the Penthouse.3. Begin to slide on the syllable “HEEE”, pitch to pitch, down to the lowest note of your singing range. With each note, picture the elevator on a steady, smooth and effortless ride to the bottom.4. As you reach the bottom of your range it is important to balance the decrease in airflow, the amount of resonating space in the chest cavity, and the amount of muscular control used. As the doorman, experiment with access to these areas. The ability to negotiate the space in the “basement” is directly related to how low you can sing and how warm your tone sounds.NOTE: Do not “push” the voice in this range at all. It is better to relax and decrease your airflow, while continuing to support with the diaphragm. With productive vocal practice and repetition the strength of that vocal range will increase. Pushing the voice in this range will only result in stress and/or damage to the voice organ and delayed vocal development. Disclaimer: As stated before...I was born with this voice. I didn't develop it in any way shape or form so I cannot personally vouch for this information. It's just something learned over the years so I share it.
I highly resent your implications that falsetto and head voice are essentially useless for singing. I happen to have trained my falsetto and mix/head voice well enough to produce a full, soprano-like sound in that register, so I have a fully functional mezzo voice, as well as a functional bass-baritone voice. You clearly do not know the capabilities of non-modal registers when singing. Just look at any famous countertenor or sopranista, and you'll see what they can do with their not 'real full sung notes'. To answer your other question, I do mean C2, as in two octaves below middle C. It's the bottom of my range, so it's not always reliable, but I have sung it several times in performance, so it's reliable enough.
Outstanding, Mr holloway, I'm a basso profundo myself but at the time I'm just 24, and my lowest steady note was somewhere between F#1 & G1(no fry) , but not having enough power as it still needs time to develop and I'm too young for that, while your F1 is as strong as my B1, I can eaisly tell you can go much lower, maybe at least D#1, You are my inspiration, I'm looking forward to become a true octavist in the years to come, still can't imagine coming close to your ground shaking vocal weight The other amazing thing about your voice is how strong it is in the fourth and fifth octave!!! Not even losing an ounce of power!!! You are gifted with a godly voice which many men dream of having it, I myself included. Wish you the best, and I know I got a lot to learn from you Mr Holloway. Proud to be your fan.
You said everything I like to hear from young basses. Your bass isn't developed enough to sound like me at your age. You can't skip the necessary ingredients of time and experience. But I see so many young voices trying to. Keep singing and taking care of your instrument. Develop good breathing techniques and gradually expand your diaphragm while gently pushing the boundaries of your range. Do that, and you'll be pleasantly surprised in the next 10-20yrs. 👊🏾
@@thatbassvoice Accually yeah it needs at least 10-20 years for my voice to completely develop, I hit G1 with around 50% power of my G2, but I can't sing below B1.to go lower than B1 I must hit the notes from B1 and gradually come down to G1 like the rach challenge, and I can't do a G1 or A1 with the first note I try.I didn't do much practice and I have started practicing recently Thanks for your reply, It means a lot to me, Much appreciated
Your performance as part of the collaboration on "Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel?", especially the final G1, was amazing! I just searched for "f1 bass" to get an idea of ranges and your video came up.
+TheTalanton Thank you! I recently did a #rachchallenge variation and scrapped the barrel descending to an E1. If you love all things Bass Voices...join this group and you'll have access to this and other great Bass/Octavist videos: facebook.com/eric.h.sr/videos/10153764310894073/
+Eric Hollaway I found your performer page and Liked it and sent you a message to the personal page you linked here. That was a cool challenge, and thanks for the reply!
I agree but the term "oktavist" is still relatively new to many people. Basso Profondo is easier for the masses to identify with. Thanks for your support!
@@neiljohnson291 I think they actually have simillar range. Its true that Octavists sing a few notes lower but dont forget that basso profundo sing over an orchestra they need more volume.
Very astounding. I'm in my high school's choir, and so far my vocal range is G2-E5. My teacher has always been saying that I am the 'true bass' out of the group. Someday, I hope to work on my ranges and get to the range you are at today. A true basso profondo range is incredible.
James Ruch Nonsense. There is no such thing as a 10 octave voice. A piano has 8 octaves. Good basses have typically 2 to 2.5 octaves. Where do you people get this stuff? Do you read it somewhere or just make it up?
***** No. I'm educated on the subject and you're not. I'm not going to attempt to explain why your answer is stupid, because you're clearly not open to education.
***** I didn't have to insinuate anything; your comments spoke for themselves. I tried to enlighten the discussion with facts and you responded with insults and ignorance. You're last comment did it again. You're not worth the effort.
The guy who currently has the world record for lowest vocal note for a man has a 10 octave vocal range. (And the range, on it's own, is a record too.) If this isn't true, you'd have to speak with the guy that claims it or with Guinness World Records.
The guy who has the world's largest vocal range, Tim Storms, has a vocal range including his fry range (a note as this man states isn't really singing, he can just hit the note), His singing voice, which is usually a 2-3 octave range for normal people depends on there vocal exercising, falsetto, that can range possibly up to three octaves, probably more, and his whistle register, which is a tad hard for normal people to use. so yeah. Reference: A friend of mine's cousin's married to Tim Storms. Thought that was pretty cool.
I am currently in my third year of high school. All throughout middle and my first year of high school I have had a very high pitched voice. I sang a tenor 1 up until my third year of high school. However, last year my voice began to drop alarmingly quickly. I still sang tenor 1, although the most of it was in falsetto. This really built up power in my falsetto, which currently can go up to a C6, D6 on a good day. During last year, my voice continued to drop, and I am currently a tenor 2, able to sing a C2, which is lower than any of the bass 2's in my choir. My chest voice can barely go above a D4. It's gotten to the point where my choral director is going to retest everyone to move me from being a tenor 2 to a bass 2. I hope that one day my voice can go as low as yours can, and as powerfully. That was a very impressive show you gave, and I hope to one day match that. Your timbre is wonderful, and your range incredible. One quick question: What kind of training would you suggest to help me develop my voice on notes this low, and how could I also develop my falsetto to not sound airy?
+Louis Croquette Thanks Louis! I encourage you to keep singing in whatever voice you have. Be careful and sure with your recent vocal changes. Sounds like puberty hit you a little late but none the less...take time learning your new voice and it's limits. When it comes to singing out of your true range remember...just because you can, doesn't mean you should. It could really shorten your singing career and damage your chords over time. Thanks for your support!
also...TIm Storms is perhaps the worst "bass" singer I have ever heard. the inaudible , pitchless frying he does(so well) is not music. is not singing. Look up Tim Riley "Ezekiel Saw that WHeel" and see what a real bass does. Storms is a party trick. theres no power, no finesse. just a gag.
Hahah, this is so cool. Did my best to follow along with the help of an app. My normal speaking voice is about E2. I can go a little lower but it starts to sound like an idle motor for some reason. The control you have the entire way is mesmerizing... My brain hasn't figured out the difference between "loud" and "pitch" for some reason. I got stuck after about A3 hahah -- "Your average shower singer" -- impressively done man :).
Hello all! I'm so glad you stopped by. This is the updated video covering my vocal range: ruclips.net/video/SH0wwwLwghI/видео.html&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE If you haven't already ...please subscribe. It helps me provide more great content for you to enjoy. Thanks!👊🏾
The subrange B1-E4 sounds very nice, round and well-projected. I suspect that above and below this is more marginal in terms of musical usefulness. A nice lyric voice. I agree that it is most important what notes can be projected well rather than merely what pitches can be emitted (some man produced a 44KHz tone in whistle register, but that is not a musical feat!)
WOW !!! I am a Preacher/bass singer (Gospel music), and I sure wish I had that resonance from the Pulpit !!! No more dozing mid-sermon ! Seriously...the F1 I am close to @ G#1 (I only count singable notes...no growls or screeches), but the resonance makes your F1 sound incredible, and....what really got me was the high end! I am 3 octaves and a note, but WOW....4 octaves.....incredible !!! Now I want to (must) hear you sing !
lol!! Thank you! I don't think I'd have anyone dozing. I've been really busy doing voice over work but I'm hoping to get more singing videos made soon. I appreciate your support.
It's nice to see older Basso Profundos on RUclips. It's really hard for a True Bass to Blend in Choral Music because the Natural Chords we can produce have to fit in that Range.
As I am typing this comment I am 18 years old. My natural vocal range is two octaves from D2-D4. If I force myself I can go down to C2 and up to F#4 but that is very rare for me. However, I can use a falsetto or whistle register to reach C6 but it sounds terrible. I will arrive at college as a freshman on Tuesday and when my classes start in a week I will be in a men's choir. I am very excited.
@@thatbassvoice I'm now 25 years old and graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts: Music Degree. I'm currently living with my parents and waiting for Ohio to open back up before I start working again.
I wish I'd paid more attention in physics class and the music theory part of chorus, but I remember hearing that extreme vocal ranges were the result of the singer being able to support a half-period vibration (top of cord stationary) in the case of extremely low voices. Normal range was cord thickness, voice box size and volume, etc., but the oddities were the result of abnormal wavelength behavior.
Damn, even his speaking voice makes everything rumble! I wonder how he sounds when he's sick!
Good question! I don't get sick that often but when I do, I can sing down to a C1 like it's nothing. During the time I recorded "Sweet Little Jesus Boy", I was just getting over a cold but wanted to get that video out before the holidays. You can here the timbre is a bit darker and sonorous.

Are you able to extend your bottom with practice? (Chest voice) I have a few steps already in a few weeks, but how far after months/ years?
Tone_y I think F below low C (F1) is enough! But, my dad was an octavist & could (sometimes) go to C below low C(C1).
I'm 14 years old and I can hit C1 but not sure if its a fry or not
@@karlhoulihan9500 It's definitely fry at 14, lol.
I feel like if I have a conversation with him in my car, people outside would think the bass is turnt up too high.

while his low register is godly, can we just talk about those high notes for a second? oml
Hey, I appreciate the support Rubeus!!

Sweet Christ, that's amazing
year.? All due respect, Morgan Freeman does not have the range or pathos Eric voice has. Freeman is not a bass
Thank you!
Hello mr.
WoW! 3 real legends. They're perfect example of low voices beauty. With Paul Robeson they could make amazing bass quartet.
+Bart Rythm and Blues If you can sing a good D you are a 'true bass', just not basso profundo
dude you are wicked! much love dude this is exactly the video I was looking for :)
Thank you! I'm glad I could help. Please share it!
your normal voice is an F#1
lol
No, not at all. I recognize that it's truly a gift from God.
+Gaboxxy What tuner?
This is astounding :) you should be very proud of yourself for both your vocal range and for your hard work and dedication to refine your voice to sound this nice.
I appreciate that Zain!
He doesn't use vocal fry at all. Listen to his speaking voice. We can hear the deepness of his voice.
All of techniques to sing lower (such as growl, subharmonic, vocal fry, ingressive phonation) don't sound really naturally, so I rather to sing low notes with chest voice. So I can get lower notes naturally.
Your voice is a gift , man!!!
Thank you David.

RUclips just showed up your channel and I'm very happy to get known of it. Really like the deep bass voice.
Best regards from Germany
Welcome aboard!
did you do anything to train your voice ?or did you have any unhealthy habits like smoking in the past? or was it always just that low and if you did have training please share I want a voice like yours and btw your voice is one of God's greatest gifts
Thanks I appreciate it just out of curiosity what is your lowest note
I've recorded an E1. ruclips.net/video/87Z1Tzz0vZY/видео.html
That F1 is so clean! I love seeing other really low basses but I get jealous when they have just a few notes below me (bottoming our at a g#1 on a good day and consistently having a b flat 1)
Thank you. There's a place at the table for all of us.😉
I'm impressed! You've got a great range! I'm also a bass, and I've also got a huge range, from C2-C6 at my extremes. I don't meet too many people with full four-octave ranges like I do, but when I do, it's so cool!
Chaosdude7111 Thank you! I agree...I think we're a small club.
Yep! The four-octave-range club is small indeed! I mostly sing bass, but I also enjoy singing soprano in my head voice/falsetto. I used to have a roommate who is a soprano with a similar four-octave range (C3-C7), and she and I would have range contests all the time!
Cool!
Wow, amazing bass voice. Keep on singing, man!
Thanks so much!!
This voice sounds like Kevin Grevioux, the Raze of Underwold film
João F. I loved those films!
Outstanding, Mr holloway, I'm a basso profundo myself but at the time I'm just 24, and my lowest steady note was somewhere between F#1 & G1(no fry) , but not having enough power as it still needs time to develop and I'm too young for that, while your F1 is as strong as my B1, I can eaisly tell you can go much lower, maybe at least D#1,
You are my inspiration, I'm looking forward to become a true octavist in the years to come, still can't imagine coming close to your ground shaking vocal weight
The other amazing thing about your voice is how strong it is in the fourth and fifth octave!!!
@@thatbassvoice Accually yeah it needs at least 10-20 years for my voice to completely develop, I hit G1 with around 50% power of my G2, but I can't sing below B1.to go lower than B1 I must hit the notes from B1 and gradually come down to G1 like the rach challenge, and I can't do a G1 or A1 with the first note I try.I didn't do much practice and I have started practicing recently
Thanks for your reply, It means a lot to me,
Much appreciated
Why do I feel like he sung “Call of Hell” from DOOM Eternal?
Because I did.👊🏾
@@thatbassvoice Your voice in the demonic chanting is just intimidating
You have a thoroughly impressing range. I am sold!
Evertone Siwela Thanks man! I appreciate your support!
You should sing the song old man river
+Benjamin Marchant he could sing it an octave lower than paul robeson...
+theoretical physicist +Benjamin physicist Just uploaded it the other day. Let me know what you think.
If you love all things Bass Voices...join this group and you'll have access to this and other great Bass/Octavist videos:

+Eric Hollaway I found your performer page and Liked it and sent you a message to the personal page you linked here. That was a cool challenge, and thanks for the reply!
Fantastic, thank you!! Look for more videos soon.
i wouldn't call you a basso profundo, youre definitely an oktavist bass!!! a basso profundo simply cant get that low.
I agree but the term "oktavist" is still relatively new to many people. Basso Profondo is easier for the masses to identify with. Thanks for your support!
Eric Hollaway i suppose, maybe you could do a video on the difference between basso profundo and oktavist basses in order to educate people.
Is a oktavist like a more powerful low voice version of a Basso Profundo?
neil johnson Basso Profundo is G1 with good volume, Oktavist is F1 and any note lower(I think) with good volume
+Kaelan Cameron Thanks Kaelan! Continue to sing and take care of your voice. You'll be pleasantly surprised at what it will give you in return.
(And the range, on it's own, is a record too.) If this isn't true, you'd have to speak with the guy that claims it or with Guinness World Records.
search on youtube "tim storms earth shaking bass" and/or "tim storms lonesome road"
Why didn’t I find this channel earlier! Good strong voice, fantastic stuff my man
Thank you!
You sound like you are always frying...
***** Hello Gar, regardless of what it sounds like, there is no "fry" in my voice. Thanks for your support!
Eric Hollaway -The Voice Yeah, I didnt really think so anyway. What do people generally say when they first hear you talking?
lol...nothing. They just stop what they're doing and listen to me talk. Then they usually say, "say something else". It's all good though.
Eric Hollaway -The Voice
Haha, thats cool!
+Eric Hollaway -The Voice haha I get that all the time too. My range is quite similar to your own, though not yet as powerful for sure!
Eric is properly considered a BASSO with a short A sound like the fish BASS. Totally Monumental Quality SIR !!!
VOCAL FRY!
thats not vocal fry lol
MrTylerPlays yea it is lol
***** thats not fry... he is singing at such a low frequency that you can hear the individual vibrations of his vocal cords
MrTylerPlays how many cords you think he has?
Not vocal fry.
Storms is a party trick. theres no power, no finesse. just a gag.
Man is still out here hearting comments, legend. Nice singing by the way
Thank you! 👊🏾
@@thatbassvoice you're welcome
amazing voice work on Doom Eternal! your voice is truly an amazing and unique gift, hope many more paths open up for you!
Thank you. I appreciate that so much and I hope it helped you enjoy the experience of gameplay even more!
+Twizzzle Thanks Twizzle! Interesting...what app was that? I appreciate your support. Look for more videos soon!
It's called Vocal Pitch Monitor however it only goes as low as about D2

One word can describe that.. WOW!
You have an amazing voice.. and a sound like no other..

What a range indeed Sr. 👏🏻
Nice range!
OlDoinyo Thank you!
that's spot on. but it takes nothing away. the lows are SPECIAL (D2-A4 chest here and I thought I could go low)
Holy crap this is so cool!
It's awesome to hear other basso profundos. I'm just honored to hear older bass singers God Bless You Eric.
Thank you! I'm glad to be able to inspire others
First time I ever heard of this guy, 2024 4/03.
Wow, good for you, a decade late but..glad I clicked lol.
omg dude. Hearing your talking voice and singing voice is 2 different animals. What the fuck. I'm so impressed
Eric: Honestly, just listening to you speak, conversationally, is an auditory treat.
Well thank you! I sincerely appreciate your support!
cannot believe I missed your channel Eric

Just realized this was a demonstration of 4 octaves without fry or subharmonic tuning. I don't even have that! Much respect, Sir.
Thank Don! I appreciate the support!!
Hey, how's your range these days?
This man is still hearting and replying to comments 7 years after he uploaded the video
It's just my way of showing that I do appreciate all the support I get.👊🏾
Amazing voice! I like how you can sing your lower range notes (F1, G1) without sounding like it's vocal fry!
Thank you Matvey! It doesn't sound like it's fry because it isn't. I appreciate your support!
Wow, you really have an amazing voice!
Thank you!! I appreciate the support!
WOW!!!!!! That last note, so high with vibrato! That must be hard for you, considering how deep your natural voice is!
Not really, but I wouldn't want any encores up there ...that's for sure. lol! Thank you.
It's nice to see older Basso Profundos on RUclips. It's really hard for a True Bass to Blend in Choral Music because the Natural Chords we can produce have to fit in that Range.
Thank you!! I still do Choral Music as well!
Your speaking voice alone is deeper than even Sir Christopher Lee's :D Awesome!
Michifer Thank you! I appreciate your support!
So...how did things turn out with college, the choir and singing?
@@thatbassvoice I'm now 25 years old and graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts: Music Degree. I'm currently living with my parents and waiting for Ohio to open back up before I start working again.
I wish I'd paid more attention in physics class and the music theory part of chorus, but I remember hearing that extreme vocal ranges were the result of the singer being able to support a half-period vibration (top of cord stationary) in the case of extremely low voices. Normal range was cord thickness, voice box size and volume, etc., but the oddities were the result of abnormal wavelength behavior.
