omg taz, i never really comment but I need to tell you. I've just moved to the UK from Asia about a year ago, and it battered me down so much to have to deal with customer service here, the administrative stuff is all over the place. I was left a 1.5k quid bill last year from the previous tenant who RAN away and was offered so little help and assurance from the gas company I was dealing with. Later on, I transferred money to the water company who claimed they've failed to receive my payment, when I've clearly sent it to them (just labeled it slightly different than they mentioned), I was endlessly referred to call services located in different countries who had little idea what was happening and nobody wanted to help. This went on for about 2-3 months until someone from the bank finally resolved it for me. Otherwise, they would've expected me to pay the same bill twice. I agree with you so much that it takes a toll on my ability to stay optimistic on the day to day. But yes, totally understand your pain-- I'm also not usually the type that likes to hanker people for ANYTHING.

Good for you, for sticking up for yourself and I love that your neighbor helped you!
I had draining issues in the bathroom and some men came over to fix it. They started asking weird questions about me taking baths and stuff like that. It was so weird, but I was just too perplexed to say anything.
Had similar scenarios with painters, electricians, etc. They act so different and waaaay less condescending when my boyfriend is also home…

My husband has to call the companies, email them to complain, literally be on the phone for hours to get a refund. The only company which does not trouble you and is instant in replying or getting refund is amazon. Best company ever.

Instead of a disposable wipe mop like Flash, use an Ecomop or similar with velcro and washable pads. It's so much cheaper in the long run, easy to just bung them in with the wash and ultimately better for the planet. Honestly one of the best things I've ever bought as an adult.

I would 100% recommend the flash mop or those types of mops in general. I’ve got the vileda one, just fill up the container with floor cleaner and water solution and it’s always ready to mop. Also you can pop the cloths in the washing machine from time to time. I hate mopping so this makes it really easy and convenient. You will love it :D

  • @lnourb
    @lnourb 5 месяцев назад

Ok I don’t usually comment but you asked so many questions so here you go 😉 for the mop, I go traditional immigrant house version with a swiffer handle and a regular mop rag (you know the classic yellow/orange ones) so you can just clip it on like a swiffer duster, then you can either clean it by hand after or just let it dry and throw it in the wash with your other rags, minimal effort, minimal cost and great results! I also went Hoover shopping recently and I did see some in between versions with the tube and rolling part but that are also cordless and rechargeable so you could go for that, and wait for some sales to get a good brand. The one I got in the end is the brand Miele which is really durable. Totally agree with you on doing laundry over doing cooking, I feel the same way. And for the customer service thing I think you’re doing great asking for your neighbors support, in my old flat we had a group chat with the neighbors so that any time something would come up we could connect and kind of band together to get things sorted. I had the same experience when my roof got leaky because of frozen pipes and an old man came in stomping on all my things just to not fix it in the end because “he was too old for this” so we got together to get it fixed . Anyways hope that helps, love your channel and you seem like the best neighbor I could dream of, hope it all works out ! 🙆🏽🥰

flash mops are more for like touch ups or cleaning up spills and such. i'd get the kind of mop that separates the dirty water from the clean water. not sure what they have in the UK but ours is called a spin mop and bucket system. it'll have a peddle on it for spinning the mop so the dirty water comes off. and yeah i've always hated laundry, i feel like i'm always doing it and it's boring lol! but doing the dishes is the worst chore for me.

    On the hoover front…
We had a Dyson, similar to your Shark and it’s rubbish.
We then had a cheap robot hoover that was okay, but didn’t last too long.
A few months ago we bought an EcoVacs ‘deebot X2 omni’ robot hoover that hoovers AND mops all at once, cleans its mop heads, dries them etc. It’s expensive, but it’s insane. It goes round whenever you set it to (ours is twice a day) and then sends itself home to clean and empty automatically. You have to top up the water / empty the vacuum once a week or so.
I highly recommend and it saves you having to hoover and mop daily!

We have the Swiffer in the US. Its like the Flash mop. It's ok for picking up small messes but regular mopping with it will actually leave residue on the floor. After 20 years of managing my own home, I have gone back to the basic mop. I just have multiple mop heads and wash them in between uses.
Your neighbors vacuum is the best. I just switched to that one too. When we had cleaners coming regularly,It's what the used.

I had an awful experience with a moving truck when I moved last year. First they showed up an hour late and didn’t even apologise upon arrival. Then they refused to go upstairs to get the beds even though we had paid for two storeys to be cleared they said they can’t do it. There was one old man and one middle aged man. The middle aged man was very rude and careless and usually we’d just stand off to the side or assist here and there to help load the truck but because the old man was extremely old obviously he was slow as well so basically my friend her mum and I were loading the truck ourselves, the other never even left the truck to collect the things from inside. To make it worse they got lost on the way to the new home but they were literally a road away and we even ushered them the direction when we passed them in the car. So we arrive at the house and we wait about 10 mins… 30 minutes later no sign of them and no phone respond… I call the police, as I’m on the phone with the cops they show up. AGAIN no apologies, my friends mum just started cussing them out at that point we were so over it. In the end I managed to get like 15% refund. But awful service for £150 😂

A spin and drain mop is way better to actually clean your floors, you can also add a step to your mopping and steam your floors. The one you showed a photo of doesn’t actually clean it just smears the dirt and your floors will end up sticky.

Since you would like to make a stew I thought I'd send you one of my go to comfort stew recipes. It's a Kerela Veggie stew which you can make it into a non version just by adding in chicken.
▢1 carrot (medium-sized), peeled and chopped or ½ cup chopped
▢1 potato (medium to large) - 150 grams, peeled and chopped or ½ cup chopped
▢½ cup green peas - fresh or frozen
▢70 to 80 grams french beans or 5 to 6 beans or ¼ cup chopped french beans
▢½ cup thinly sliced onion or 1 medium-sized onion or 1 to 2 shallots or 5 to 6 pearl onions, thinly sliced
    ▢3 to 4 garlic cloves (small to medium-sized) - crushed into a paste in a mortar-pestle
    ▢1 inch ginger - julienned
    ▢2 green chilies - slit
    ▢1.5 inch cinnamon
▢4 to 5 cloves - crushed or kept whole
    ▢1 teaspoon crushed black pepper
▢2 to 3 green cardamoms - crushed or kept whole (optional)
▢2 cups thin coconut milk or 2 cups water * check notes for pressure cooking the veggies with water
    ▢1 cup Coconut Milk (Thick)
    ▢12 to 15 curry leaves
    ▢2 tablespoons coconut oil
    ▢salt as required
Heat coconut oil and then add crushed spices - cinnamon, cardamoms, cloves, black pepper. On low heat fry them till fragrant.
Then add the ginger, garlic, green chilies, sliced onions and curry leaves. Sauté till the onions become translucent on low to medium-low heat. Don't brown the onions.
Add the chopped veggies and stir to mix.
Add thin coconut milk or water. Season with salt according to taste. Cover the pan with a lid and cook the veggies.
The veggies should be cooked till they are fork tender.
Lastly add the thick coconut milk. Stir well and simmer on low heat for just half a minute.
For a bit of sweet taste, opt to add sugar if you prefer.
If you want, you can also heat a few teaspoons of oil and fry curry leaves in it till crisp. Then add this curry leaves tempering from the top before serving the veg stew.
Serve Kerala style vegetable stew with appam or steamed rice.
Hope you enjoy cooking this up! 😅

do you clean the filter in your shark regularly? most of the times, when the vacuum doesn't pick up stuff, it's because the filter is dirty. also, in many vacuums like the shark, the filters need to be replaced from time to time. i'm not hating, just leaving a suggestion because while i never had a shark vacuum and it's possible that it's simply a bit shitty and therefore doesn't work that well, the filter cleaning is easy to forget about.
also, if you're looking for a replacement, i recommend considering splurging on a dyson.

Glad to hear you have great neighbour(s)!
For a flat a pull along hoover is great. Those battery ones are naff imo.
Yeah i hate contractors, esp when i was in a housing association flat!
As a female, now a lot older but was in care, blah blah, if you only learn one skill in life that is basic DIY stuff. The other is self defence from tw*ts.
That combi boiler has been installed weird af! It is high, so you probably have great water pressure and it seems they have linked it to a joint outlet to the roof and the condensation pipe must be joined to the waste pipe. What it tells me is that you have higher ceilings.
Is your floor concrete or wood? That might be an irrelevant question if you are on the ground or top floor.
Yes the hatch. A more manual cheaper option would be to screw on those magnetic connectors. They are like finger width and about 5cm long and then you screw the metal plate it comes with to those small batons. You then need to screw in two ring pull handles either side to pull it down for the service. Pretty sure all of those are at B&Q in the screw and fixings isle. If i am allowed to post links on here i can probably find some. Screwfix/ Toolstation might do them as well and they may offer a priced delivery but you may be lucky on Amazon for free delivery.
Our kid is doing DT in school "making medieval purses" and dreading sewing. They have done these crafts before, not under force but trying to get them into crafts. We don't have a craft kid. We literally renovated our new house and garden when we moved in when i was like 32 weeks pregnant and they are like "Nah, i'll get someone else to sew my socks"! 💀 So much for giving them what i didn't/ never have/had.
I get that some people aren't into crafts or DIY but i am not into doing taxes or lifting very heavy stuff with my bad back. Some things need to get done.
They should be teaching kids about how to change a fuse in a plug and what does it actually do. How to change a bulb or light fixture is still in code if done correctly. Changing a plug socket that has been damaged is also another example. Fixing taps. Fixing low water pressure in combi boilers, where you have no heat/ hot water is an easy one too.
I want to do short videos on these type of things but a have very bad social anxiety. I need to get a phone converter for my star camera tripod as i used to make videos on my old proper camera and i am looking into getting one of those Lavalier mics that connect to android phones. I really want to make a video on upcycling stuff in the garden and i am currently doing a project but i am scared it would be too boring and i don't really want to be on camera but i need to find a way of demonstrating stuff, without my mug in the shot.
Just to try and gain some confidence in being on camera, i ask my hubby to take some photos of me holding my Dad's cool backpack leaf blower and film me. To add context, i knew my Dad got a new one several years ago as his old one wasn't strong enough to deal with this huge 300+ yr old tree in his only garden in his 1 bed half house. He would have a lovely garden, if it wasn't for this protected tree covering, not just his garden but neighbours too. Politics as to why he moved there but he can no longer lift this backpack leaf blower. So i helped my Dad clear the leaves and we took home 3 massive bags of leaves for our garden and put the rest in his garden bins. I went to check hubby's photos and film he took on his phone. 2 photos with his gloves in the picture and searing light from the sun. The video was 2 seconds long of the patio, when he said he done a 2 minute video.... So i guess this makes things harder for me to want to create stuff.
I am also in the process of selling some baby stuff on vinted as i want to build a desk/ multi suite in the kids room and prices of stuff have shot up. I kind of want to make a similar one that i made in my first flat coming out of care, that i used in school and Uni. I also later reused that veneer wood to build hubby a bedside cabinet that was about 13 years old at that point!
Once you know the basics of DIY, you kinda pick things up.

I’ve had a sofa been delivered with holes in the back and a cigarette burn and they gave me 240£ back luckily my pillows cover the burn and the holes are not visible. Also the movers who brought the sofa in knocked something off my wall and they gave me £50 to replace it

Get yourself a spin mop, I personally think that they’re amazing! However definitely do not use what you call a flash mop! We called that a swifter, and they are horrible!

We have a council house and there’s been a leak on the outside of the house for years, and we have now had to strip the wallpaper in a part of our livingroom due to it starting to come off from the dampness, we have tried calling for someone to come fix it for at least 3 years now, they have came and at least 2 workers have said they don’t really know what they are here to do.. like how can you be sent to a job and not know what the job is? me and my mum are also very reserved and non confrontational people so we have never phoned and kicked up a fuss so maybe this is why. It’s unfair to my mum though as it’s ruined the wall and outside of the house where everyone can see

Skip the mop Taz, I’ve had it before, it’s useless. It’s a faff and wasteful, get the mop and bucket with a pedal spinner, it’s top notch. Vileda Turbo mop

You probably just need to clean or change your filter for your vacuum. Try that before you buy a new one.

    American wording:
•Ours is called a swiffer mop (flash) id recommend that if you dont like the chore of mopping (no plug in but the button could jam up easy)
•Otherwise a bissel steam mop just uses water and a cloth cover instead of wipe the heat is said to kill bacteria better (plugs in)

Bought a dresser from ikea, received a faulty one. Was talking back and forth with different customer service representatives, one of them promised to come pick it up for us as we weren't able to deliver it to the store. Okay, nice. Then the planned day happened and no one arrived. I email them back, different person answering me again, now it's not something they can offer. Okay... that's annoying but we'll survive. Then next email they don't want to give me my money back?? So I had to make a fuss as you said, and it ended up working out in the end but the experience was very annoying.

It does feel like a lot of companies service has gone downhill in recent years. Never feels good when you’ve spent a few hundred pounds and then don’t even get decent service

Girl, good customer service especially over the phone is RARE nowadays, chasing people up is my one of my pet peeves, it makes it even worse when they don't do their job properly. The people from that moving company sound so insincere and that overall annoys me even more

Vileda mops are very good, you just take off the rag afterwards and throw it in the wash (not with clothes) 😊 also the companies kinda prey on good hearted people like you who don't want the hastle of complaining.. I know cause I'm like that too 😅
