My dad got us kids started watching mash when I was a teenager and I still love it! I am now 57! Now you know it is a damn good show when you love it for that long!
The show MASH was genius. It was a comedy, medical, and war show all rolled into one. I think the word "dramedy " was coined for this show. Even though the viewer didn't see a lot of actual combat scenes in this show, it conveyed the horrors of war, both physically and emotionally. And I could tell that this show was a labor of love for everyone involved in it, because of the care that went into making every episode. MASH was a prime example of what a television series could and should be.

God bless you Alan alda, mash was such an incredible part of my childhood. It made me understand that war is bad, by bringing it into my living room each evening. Sometimes it was lighthearted and funny, sometimes it was serious. I know mash is fiction, but the chicken scene with Hawkeye in the bus still makes me cry to this day. I am nearly 50 years old and I can not watch that scene without tearing up. The Korean lady’s silent scream, and Hawkeye crying it was a baby, she smothered her own baby, still too this day haunts me and stirs up horrible emotions in me. Mr. Alda you played a man with ptsd brilliantly. Thank you for everything

Well, he should have taken up that man's offer and took the time capsule back!😂 obviously Alda didn't care about it because be didn't want it back when the man found it...
Thank you Alan I remember laying on the floor, my Pop in his chair watching Mash every Saturday night. My Pop fought in Korea, he loved that show with a beer after supper.
Benjamin Frankin "Hawkeye" Pierce was an amazing meatball surgeon and beautiful human being. I always imagined Hawkeye living the rest of his life up in Crabapple Cove and even though he was happy and relieved to be home, he would always be missing the piece of himself that he left in Korea.

I did meet Alan some years later when he was hosting his program, "Great American Frontiers" at my work. It was about a robotic surgery instrument and the setting was supposed to be a Mobile Army Field Hospital. I was working with the equipment and keeping folks from coming looking for autographs. During some director time I spent about an hour with him just chatting about this and that. Very pleasant man easy to be with and funny.

An amazing show! I was a young kid in the early 80s as Mash was finishing up its run, but now in my mid 40s I can appreciate the incredible show that it was. I watch it every night at 7pm on MeTV!
I really enjoyed watching MASH. It was one of the best sitcoms I ever watched. Hawkeye Pierce is a hero. He is a truly iconic character who brings a perfect blend of wit, humour, and compassion to the show. His quick wit and sharp sense of humour not only provide much-needed comic relief in the midst of the chaos of war but also reflect his ability to cope with the difficult situations he faces. Live long and prosper Alan!
Allen Alda, you are one of the most greatest entertainers, I have ever seen ! You have done so much for humanity plus!! God Bless You !! Your well loved by so many!
This show must have been so important to people who actually served and survived the Korean war. And the Vietnam war. I know that many service people who came back from Vietnam have committed suicide because of the horrors that they went through and the lack of help they received after. The same thing seems to be happening all the time. People returning from tours in the Middle East and Afghanistan are not receiving the help they need to manage with the mental and physical wounds that they acquired while in active service. I know it was "just a tv show" and was a comedy at that, but the people working on the show did try to present the fact that people were killed and maimed in war. We seem to have forgotten that.
The writers did base the show of real life Doctor turned author who wrote Mash and he was like the real Hawkeye Pierce. His name was Richard Hornberger and penned the book Mash under Richard Hooker. He was a recent medical school graduate who was drafted during Korean War and served on real Mash unit to be a surgeon. Hornberger said he did things in surgery that were against army regulations. He used the character of Pierce in his book to be like himself with his humor and wit to help get through the grueling hours in surgery and stress of being on fighting lines in Korea.
When I was in kindergarten during the seventies, I knew this man's voice, Klinger in a dress, Radar's teddy bear and him hearing choppers, and the name Hot Lips Hooligan. The last one used to crack me up, but at the time I had no idea what it meant. Mr Alda's voice is forever soothing to me.
That reminds me so much of when a movie ends and you feel moved. So you want to "take it in"...savor the moment as you listen to the music while watching the last scrolls run up the screAND SUDDENLY. The next movie promotion appears on your screen before you're ready. MASH has always been, and will continue one of the best tv shows.
@@halenarouzer4472 , Murder Mystery. No, No... Its a Romantic Comedy. But, in my opinion its a Romantic Drama. He goes on a business trip. He meets a woman. Both are married. But, every year same weekend they meet at the same place. Its a great movie.
Been watching MASH everyday for the last 10 years. Only reason I have Hulu put it on anytime I’m around tv. Seasons back to back prolly 100 times but still haven’t watched the finale. Just can’t get myself to do it. Time capsule then restart like it’s never ended.
I like Hawkeye's character. His mother had died but he was close to his father. He was single and a doctor. He was extremely witty and had a sense of morality.
After watching MASH for eleven years, essentially being raised on it, the last episode was airing while I was in a night class in college. I fretted until the class break, when my roommate and I slipped away to our room and watched the entire episode with a half dozen other classmates. I have never regretted it.
I was in college myself, but my family had a VCR (or was it a Betamax, can’t remember); I had set it to record as I was in class for the early part. At the time it was said that would be the only time that episode would be shown. Ten years later I caught an ad that the episode was going to be rerun, so I set my VCR to record it no matter whether I was there or not-I was home and watched the whole episode, then saw it again a few years after…and played my recording a few times as well.
M*A*S*H* was excellent show. The actors made us laugh and cry. Especially when it was a show about being doctors in Army during Korean War. My father was there he was a young man in his early 20's. Thank You for such a moving show.
Worked with a man that fought in Korea. One night we found him sat down and crying. Asked him what's wrong? All he said was " They would not stop coming, they would not stop coming" Sobbing really hard. He was on a machine gun that had a wall of dead Chinese soldiers in front of it, and this normal man broke. He took council and made a recovery of sorts, but ordinary people were caught in an extra ordinary place.
I remember one episode that John and Hawkeye were practicing boxing for a boxing match against a SGT from another military base and they were using Frank's duffel bag for a punching bag and Margaret Houlihan walks by saying "Isn't that Frank's bag?" John without missing a step said " I thought you were Frank's bag" I laughed so hard and coffee shot from my nose.
I like the scene where Colonel Flagg was trying to get a prisoner being tended to at the M.A.S.H. released so he could execute him. He needed two doctors to sign off on it and Trapper and Hawkeye weren't about to. Margaret realizes Frank could and exclaims, " Wait a minute! You're a doctor, Frank!" Hawkeye quips "Your secret is safe with me. Certainly your patients will never know". Classic 🤣

Fan of both the film and TV show.
That final episode of MASH, that I watched as an 18 year old, is forever engrained in my mind.
G O O D B Y E
love Alan Alda he was so awesome in MASH my favourite of all time would love to meet him very much I watch the show every night over and over.
Steven Weiler Sudance channel shows M*A*S*H Marathon every Saturday evening & Monday mornings on AT&T DISH. I love Alan Alda, too! Sometimes they put M*A*S*H on as a filler between movies, also. 😄
An amazing show! I was a young kid in the early 80s as Mash was finishing up its run, but now in my mid 40s I can appreciate the incredible show that it was. I watch it every night at 7pm on MeTV!
Fantastic network, MeTV. Definitely my favorite channel!
They play it on TV Land also 5-7pm central
@@stacyorth Entire series is currently on Hulu.
I also have it saved on HULU...when I need a good show.
I have the whole series & movie on DVD. Bought it with a gift card I got for Christmas
I agree, thank you Alan
Alan will always be Hawkeye! Wonderful actor and wonderful TV Series!!! To this day I can t watch the final episode with out tearing up.
I never get tired of watching it again and again...I"m watching it right now and I"m so sorry there are only a few episodes to run...
2021 i am watching 2 episodes every week night as it is being rerun here in Vitoria Australia. Love the show.
Alan, thank you for making all of us a little happier. And thank you for making me and many others all the more proud to be an American.
From the final season, RIP Harry Morgan, and David Ogden Stiers.
MASH - Marvellous, Awesome, Sensational and Hilarious. 2020 and still watching MASH and its on tonight
Watching it again from the beginning. Had forgotten how great it was
I remember the time capsule show. Like so many others, it was a great and funny episode. M*A*S*H was some of the best TV ever. A timeless classic!
I wish I knew how many times I've seen the reruns of M*A*S*H over the years since it was first on.
Thank you Alan & crew!
I bought the complete set one Christmas and our family watched 3-5 episodes a day and it did not stop for over three years. Love M*A*S*H!
I finally got round to seeing the very last installment of MASH. Wonderful show.
Best Show Ever. Thanks cast for the gift that keeps on giving...
Favorite movie with Alan Alda was Sametime next year.
Ever see Manhattan Murder Mystery ? It's a good one, too...
I heard about it but never saw it.
@@halenarouzer4472 , Omg!!! You have to find it on Amazon. That was a funny sad Very loving movie. In my opinion. Its one of his Great movies.
fade blac what kind of Murder mystery is it? What is it about?
@@halenarouzer4472 , Murder Mystery. No, No... Its a Romantic Comedy. But, in my opinion its a Romantic Drama. He goes on a business trip. He meets a woman. Both are married. But, every year same weekend they meet at the same place. Its a great movie.
2021 and I still love MASH.
Am watching the box set at present. Brilliant show and brilliant actors. My dad was in the Korean war.
seeing him tomorrow in my home town! so excited!
3 years late but how was it? What was it like?
I watched Mash in my early twenties, now I watch the show with my grandson.
THANKS, YOU ALL MASH SHOW OVER MANY YEARS AS GREAT WATCH VERY TIME
I loved the series and still do. I was in the Air Force in Biloxi ms. It's just a moment in history you experience you never forget.
Been watching MASH everyday for the last 10 years. Only reason I have Hulu put it on anytime I’m around tv. Seasons back to back prolly 100 times but still haven’t watched the finale. Just can’t get myself to do it. Time capsule then restart like it’s never ended.
That final episode was hard to watch. Made me cry.
Great actor. One of my favorites of all time.
This was great. Thanks for uploading. Great series, amazing guy.
I miss quality shows like this. Writers, actors, cameras and lighting....so cost money. Since Survivor first aired, everything went downhill. Sad😖
My dog Blake and I watch mash every night on me tv he loves hawkeye as much as I do the show never gets old like good wine it gets better with time
I like Hawkeye's character. His mother had died but he was close to his father. He was single and a doctor. He was extremely witty and had a sense of morality.
Truly one of the greatest of all time. Such a humble and respectful person.
I remember watching the last episode and I cried uncontrollably. So sad
M*A*S*H* was excellent show. The actors made us laugh and cry. Especially when it was a show about being doctors in Army during Korean War. My father was there he was a young man in his early 20's. Thank You for such a moving show.
Watch it every day in re runs.. never gets tiring.
Even today everytime M.A.S.H is run on TV or i watch the DVD, that last episode still gets me.
MASH, the laughter, heart aches, & the will to go on
What a gift. I hope he knows how much he's loved.
Sad.
Thankfully I wasn't drinking coffee when I read your comment...
There were a lot of great lines in that show. I frequently quote them.
Radar said about the other boxer that he once punched a jeep and that he was big enough to be a platoon. Haha
I just watched that episode lol
I like the scene where Colonel Flagg was trying to get a prisoner being tended to at the M.A.S.H. released so he could execute him. He needed two doctors to sign off on it and Trapper and Hawkeye weren't about to. Margaret realizes Frank could and exclaims, " Wait a minute! You're a doctor, Frank!" Hawkeye quips "Your secret is safe with me. Certainly your patients will never know". Classic 🤣
Mash is my show I fall asleep to. It's the best one I can use.
M*A*S*H is one of my most beloved shows. There will never be another like it again.
Great full interview! That was my favorite show to grow up with! Sorry to learn they were mobbed by while trying to all say good-bye during the last episode that they shot. What great actors! Esp. Loved Hawkeye! ♥️
For me, M*A*S*H* was the best show ever. I love, I cry , I laugh..and I miss this serial verry much. God bless you everyone! And..R.I.P who past away....❤
By the way I was never in the military, but truly thank you so much for all those years of showing us comedy during the times of a real live war You guys did a absolute outstanding job
