  • REEF Redemption collaborated with Pacific Panel Products to recapture all the waste foam material from the fixture production process and recycle it to be transformed into an eco-friendly surfboard, with help from Sustainable Surf and Marko Foam. Reef Ambassador, Rob Machado teamed up with the group to create two boards that would open people’s eyes to the strength, durability and performance capabilities of a craft made entirely from recycled and eco-conscious materials.

    How do you take the foam pellets and turn them to the blank boards? Is there a special press?

    To this day we can't recycle anything but aluminum and have the process be less detrimental to the environment than just making the new products. Most folks don't factor in the processes it takes to make things reusable or the whole process of recycling. Look into just the amount of fuel it takes to move these products from place to place. I'm all for recycling, but we need to figure out a better way.

    It be great if the average person can find foam on the side of street and recycle it themselves at home and make there own surfboard for free.

    I heard the phrase "sustainable materials" about 10 times in this video. Can someone tell me what that means and how it applies to this surfboard?

    • @jeremy41234
      @jeremy41234 8 лет назад +1

      +Randsurfer Yeah I think thats a little disingenuous too. Foam boards are just not very environmentally friendly, period. although recycling is better than nothing

      They used the foam that would normally be thrown away to create the blank for the surfboard. Usually they would be buying brand new blanks but by using these recycled blanks the will be using much less foam material over all. The supply is also endless for the foam and they will always have the foam until this company goes out of business.

      Randsurfer great comment, that also immediately stuck out in my listening is renaming plastic and foam as "sustainable" a justification to continue the use of a non sustainable resource simply renamed?

    I was backing the whole eco ride , until I saw him waste the epoxy resin on the rail laps that should have been dripped back into the bucket , and not onto the floor...But Rob's a nice guy and he means well...

    SM has removed social skills that were naturally occurring in say 1980 and up,before cell phones. The middle class at that time had to use land lines or pay phones to communicate and it took longer to get drugs from ur dealer. So in essence,some one in their 40s or 50s will naturally be a better candidate to get service jobs. The market is wide open. And most of us are sober now. Surfing in ur older life is very important,never drop out,even if u got fat,get some, The pro surfers have convinced the young people to ride under 6 foot boards all day. This is old surfers dream and kids nightmare and will continue until we are 70 or older. We are up on a wave first for a reason. It's our decade long bucket list to annoy and destroy u.
