Watched Rob & Justin grow up surfing Cardiff Reef, Moonlight, Pipes, Stone Steps, and Grandview. Rob was always the ultimate soul surfer, smooth as silk. He's gotta be 50 yrs old now and the absolute nicest guy on the planet. And as always, the smile. Thanks for the memories Rob, you are the best ambassador for the art of surfing in the world.
I can remember Rob surfing years ago, he was in his teens, and he's still the smoothest surfer I've ever seen, some things never change, nice to see, that had to be 40 years ago when I was still in San Diego
Agree 100%. Surfing is, above all else, a love affair with the ocean, and Rob personifies that. No tricks. Doesn't try to "dominate" the wave. It's a respectful conversation.
felt the same way filming it. sometimes you get to see people who are just on a whole other level with surfing. they almost know what the wave is going to do before it even breaks. was at Lowers doing water photos once on a fun swell and Slater showed up. can't even begin to describe to you what it is like watching him surf coming at you and cranking turns directly in front of your camera. pretty surreal. message me on my IG Alan and I will send you an epic water shot I got of him from that session.
Love his style. Rob shows you how to work with the wave. No need to fling arms about like i see so many surfers doing trying way too hard to turn the board. No aggression. Rob is in a perfect harmony with each wave.
Always loved the way Rob surfs put him on a twin and it's a pleasure to watch I liked how he held his board with one hand and knifed through the incoming waves he was already in the zone
Oh yeah, just one of those amazing rippable days. Thanks so much for watching the video and taking the time to comment. Appreciate your subscription as well.
If I were you I would add footage from other surfers on the same day. That will bring a huge contrast to Rob's obvious mastery... it will make it even more evident, palpable and enjoyable
yeah I add all the others in the previous video before this one in the RAW footage session. Rob's session was just so good it commanded doing its own edit. Thanks Luciano for watching, check out the previous one to see the other people.
super smooth and totally in tune with his board and what the wave is going to do. excellent transitions between maneuvers. thanks for watching Mike, hope you check out some of the other videos and subscribe.
I surf the same break and I’ve been surfing there since 1973, nobody flows or generates speed like Rob. There are a lot of good surfers there including groms but Rob is a different level of flow
100% agree. tons of great surfers there. Rob is in a whole different level. he sees the end of the wave at the start. just flows through the whole thing. i appreciate you checking out the video. thanks so much.
I know Nils. Its pretty remarkable his agility and flow. Such a natural talent. Awesome to watch him surf in person. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you subscribed to the channel.
@@SLAWTVvideos it looks great but seaside is amazing in small surf. If you got the money it’s probably awesome. I just don’t see how it beats a seaside .
Don’t forget Jeremy Summerville, Shane Stoneman and Paul Roach. We were all ripping Palisades when the parking lot was dirt and muddy, that’s when Seaside was best. The wave changed so much after they built the new paved lot “twice”, it changed the inside section the most.
So many of the breaks have changed along the San Diego coast. Even back in NJ. There are jetties breaking now that didn't break for almost 25-30 years. Coastline always changing.
Yeah it is pretty incredible what he is able to do. Makes it seem effortless. Thanks for watching and hope you decide to subscribe to the channel and check out our other videos.
well it is also a head high day at a mild flat bottom reef break, to be realistic. it is a little different than the waves Kelly is riding on tour, also not in the pressure of a contest, and not trying to boost airs at Pipe and Backdoor..
yeah I wish I could just use any song I want, but there is this pesky thing called copyright infringement and youtube is not really stoked when you do that. So instead of getting a copyright claim or strike on my channel I opted for the limited selection of royalty free music. But you could alway go into your iTunes play whatever song you like and rewatch it again. Haha. JK. Thanks though. Appreciate you checking out the video.
DONO HOW HE GET THIS FLOW LIKE A CAT - MAKE IT LOOKS EASY AND NORMAL - THEN YOU GO ON YOUR BOARD AND YOU STRUGGEL AS HELL HAHA WHAT I NOTICE A LOT OF HIS MOVEMENT STARTING FROM THE SHOLDER S MOVMENT THEN THE BOARD FOLLOW ,,, NO HARD LEG JOBS GREAT
would be nice to use classic and mainstream songs, but RUclips doesn't really like. they kinda do this thing called Copyright claims and strikes. So all I have is whats available in Royalty Free music. thanks for watching though.

Yeah the guy is so humble and chill. Just was really cool to catch him going out for a free surf. Thanks for checking out the video.
When the board matches your style & conditions perfectly, it's priceless and so was that session by the look on Machado's face.
yeah was really something awesome to see. caught him arriving, the whole session, and leaving. these are the really fun days of this job.
What board is it that he’s riding there?
@@jblo76 My guess is its a new prototype he's working on . If you ask me it's its ready for delivery 😉
@@jblo76 seaside volcanic i guess

Thanks for checking it out Bob and taking the time to leave a comment. Appreciate it.
So is rob 55?
Rob, and others like him, is what surfing's all about -- a love session with the ocean.
Guy just cruises down to his local break and just puts on a Master Class in Style.

Such pure lines. Pleasing to the senses. Thank you Rob.
yeah hoping this is the 1st of many sessions I am able to catch of him. really incredible to see him free surf in person. thanks for watching.
its almost frustrating to watch he is so smooth and makes it look so easy

Rob is such a bad ass! So smoooooth!!
he kills it. imagine in another 10 years how even better he will be.

Rob surfs with so much style and flow

yeah it was really fun to film and watch him surf this morning. stoked I was there to catch it. thanks for checking out the video Paul.
Smooth as hemp and silk
great description Rich. thanks for watching, hope you check out some of the other videos and subscribe.
My opinion, best cutback ever
really awesome to see when he cuts back into the whitewater he gets deep into it and then perfectly flips the energy back into this turn up the face.
rob...thornton fallander and the guy from the goldie
@@petervangeli6656 Richard Cram had a stylish one but then so did Curren, Archie........
Makes it look so easy
he is just so dialed every time he stands up.
It feels like I surf like that on my Seaside, luckily there's no video footage.
We all mind surf it like that. Haha. Thanks for watching.
Still smooth as silk🏄🏼♂️
his cutbacks into the white water only to set him up perfectly to go up and hit the sweet spot is amazing.
Smooth yet still progressive!
yeah Rob's style is exceptional. thank you for watching and commenting.
Smooth ...🏄🏄🏄🏄
💯 for sure. Rob has so much style. thanks for watching.
Great video, good timing getting a local legend at his local. lol
yeah stoked I was there when he showed up, was able to get the whole session.
Rob still shreds! Yew! 🤙🏻
Yes he does. Such an epic free surf session. Thanks Matt for watching.
Seaside 🏄♂️
really classic spot. amazing to see the next generation there and all the groms ripping.
fun day in cardiff. his board moves so well, he's so smooth. epic.

@@SLAWTVvideos thanks mate for taking the time to answer and for telling me about the first video!
In one shot, a guy takes off behind on next wave. Instant difference.
Wow, his style has aged WELL to say the least!
He surfs the same as he did 30 years ago, but only smoother.
super smooth and totally in tune with his board and what the wave is going to do. excellent transitions between maneuvers. thanks for watching Mike, hope you check out some of the other videos and subscribe.
He's the best
He is a super class act and great ambassador of our sport. Thanks for watching and hope you subbed.
Smooth operator ✌🏻
like butter. thanks for checking out the video.
Nice… just Rob surfing. Cool
absolutely. just out for a Free Surf and having fun.
One of the best styling surfers of all time but better with leash pls 😉
imagine how insane he will be surfing in another 5-10 years. he just keeps getting better.
Menho momento de surfe rob machadu so voce praxer campionato😎
very amazing surfer still to this day.
Just smooth technique
really incredible transitions from start to finish. Thanks for checking out the video.

Surfboard looks amazing under his feet.
Yeah I wish I could have found out the dimensions. Maybe someday if I run into Rob somewhere I will ask him
My guess is 5'4" Volcanic Seaside
that board is dope
If i can manouver a surfboard half as well when im 48 i'd be so happy.

So why do we need the Machado Cado again? Seaside all we need ❤️🤙🏾
From what I have seen and heard from people, that board is amazing in small surf.

Shred 😎
Imagine in another 10-15 years how much more he will shred. He was ripping this morning.
so much board control. no leashing it in pretty decent size waves!
was saying to someone it was like he knew exactly every move the wave was gonna make.
I heard the term years ago, He was the first sponsored “Free Surfer”…
yeah gotta appreciate all the pros who go do their own thing. Rastovich, Reynolds, etc... Thanks for watching and taking time to comment.
I didn't realize Tourmaline had such open lefts too! Gotta get over there...
oh man... Andrew. Tourmo has been on fire.. haha.
I see what you did there 😂
I remember he used to rip back in the day
Still does. This was just a casual free surf session. Having fun from what it looked like. Thanks for checking out the video Sonny.

Mr smooth
Gotta love his transitions.
He is 5'10" and weighs a paltry 65kg. He is a very small light male. But sure twin fins do go in the right waves.
Tall thin guys on short twin fin boards look like it works pretty well. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you subbed to the channel.

Nailed it. Fluid as all hell.

yup Rob still kills it.
They say Gerry Lopez had style and some of these others, but nobody come close to Rob. Just sayin’
he is definitely on a whole nother level.
I used to surf a lot with Jerry at Mala warf. Small fun. But Rob surfs way better than anyone I've seen in small and large waves. Zen master degree. 🙏
