I was lucky to see Burton and his band in the early 2000's, it was an outdoor festival, sun starting to go down, a summertime breeze, a perfect night. Burton said he was so comfortable he could play all night. The music was so fantastic, the crowd loved it and he did almost all Guess Who songs. I have been to at least 100 concerts and this one was so clear, so perfect, it was one of the best concerts i have ever attended. It was that good. Rick Springfield played after Burton, no offense to Rick but Burton should have been the headliner, he has such a unique voice. It was in Michigan, not too far away.

I uploaded this video several years ago, after finding it as part of a RUclips video compilation of performances from The Johnny Cash Show, so it's nice to see it getting the attention of reactors. One common misconception about this clip that pops up a lot: Randy Bachman is not in this line-up. He left partway through 1970 after a falling out with the rest of the band and went on to form a country-rock band called Brave Belt, which then morphed into the more hard-rocking Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO). The rest of The Guess Who (lead vocalist/keyboardist Burton Cummings, bassist Jim Kale and drummer Garry Peterson) replaced Bachman with two guitarists, Kurt Winter (who solos here) and Greg Leskiw. Winter also replaced Bachman as Cummings' songwriting partner. The band went through several personnel changes before breaking up in 1975.

Burton Cummings is the name of the lead singer. Randy Bachman on guitar. He later formed a band called Bachman Turner Overdrive who also had big hits. I live in Ottawa, Canada and Burton and Randy are on tour right now and will be playing right close to me in about three days time. I have Burton Cummings on Facebook and he loves to share photos of his memorabilia and stories about his younger days. He still can sing like that. He also had a great solo career with hits to check out. This is a big rabbit hole.
They were on Johnny Cash's variety show and since rock n roll music was still considered "devil music' at that time, JOhnny would have been introducing these fellas and trying to get his main audience to accept them and open their minds to listen to them, which is just one more reason to love Johnny.
Songs to listen to from The Guess Who - These Eyes, Laughing, Undun, No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature, and I"m sure I'm forgetting something here. Songs by Bachman Turner Overdrive - Taking Care of Business (which Elvis Presley loved so much he had jewelry made with the logo TCB on it), You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet, and help me out Canadians, my b rain is drawing a blank. There are more.
Songs by Burton Cummings solo, Break It To Them Gently, Stand Tall, Fine State of Affairs, I'm Scared, Glamour Boy, Follow Your Daughter Home, My Own Way To Rock... and there are more, but... pity me. I'm old and can't remember. LOL.

OMG look at Burt with all that hair!!!! I'm not going to laugh. I'm not laughing. There was a poll on Facebook during Covid (Burt was doing live entertainment from home) that voted Burt second best voice, behind Freddie Mercury. It's no insult to come in second to Freddie Mercury. The Guess Who held first place in my list of Best Canadian Bands for many, many years. To be replaced by Rush. They are still in second place though. Oh wait...The Tragically Hip...Crash Test Dummies...

    Here's a great live version - ruclips.net/video/SSBKwHkvTWU/видео.html

I don't understand why Undun is rarely ever requested in these comments. It's their masterpiece. (even Randy and Burton's favourite song with TGW). Perhaps it deviates far too much from what they're known for.
The studio version is FAR superior to the live version. They changed it far too much in the live one and the bossa nova sound is pretty much gone.

@@JK_Clarke I was referring to the live version of Undun you linked. I've seen a few and none really match the studio version. The studio version just has this brilliant, unique sound.
I always prefer the reaction to the studio version, as that's what made it popular though in a few instances - for example, Rhiannon by Fleetwood Marc, is brilliant live, and some songs were released as live versions, such as "I Want You to Want Me" by Cheap Trick. But, that's my preference.
Whichever version is it, your secret is safe with me '😉

A very young (moustache-less) Burton Cummings: lead vocals, and a very young Randy Bachman on lead guitar.

This video should be used to embarrass bands who play “live” shows with backing tracks or full on recordings they just synch to. I don’t necessarily want the live gig to sound exactly like the record, but the reproduction of it is super solid.

Interesting venue for the song but a bit jarring. Johnny Cash is the only true country singer I can listen to. I love The Guess Who with the great vocalist Burton Cummings and guitarist Randy Bachman, who had left by this time. Gotta love draping the Canadian flag over the piano as well. You should re-react to this without interruptions from the studio album.

The ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME IS A JOKE PLAIN AND SIMPLE. It' was a great idea but the fools who run it are clueless. The list of people who belong there is long, as is the list of people who are in but should not be.

@@bobleek6975 - Been there twice and absolutely agree. There are clowns in there who were talentless or one hit wonders and a lot I've never heard of. Also, to me, rap/hip hop doesn't even qualify as music. I was first there in 1999 and almost every artist was from the US. Since then there are more "foreign" acts but still many glaring omissions. Admission should be based on talent, quality and quantity of output and influence.
