    Judging by the 'cleanouts,' this ship is a dry bulk carrier. When I taught finance, we had a case about a 'Capesize' dry bulk carrier company. I couldn't believe how the shipping costs went from a loss (company paying for the shipment) to the cost of transport exceeded the cost of the cargo. The volatility of costs was off the charts. I can't imagine trying to run a company like this.

    Interesting video, thanks Chief. As a landlubber engineer(!) it seems very inefficient having to load a barge just to load the ship. Two load/unload operations rather than one. Then I was surprised to see cranes and scoops and wondered why the grain wasn't pumped aboard. These methods must add a lot of time to the loading process so I wonder why it was done this way and if it is standard practice.

    • @nemphis95
      @nemphis95 4 года назад +1

      Probably the ship is too big to be loaded at the port.

    • @christiandizon5786
      @christiandizon5786 4 года назад

      usually large cargo ship like this one dont dock ports because the water is too shallow for them to transit at empty and full load thats why the cargo are carried by barge to the ship. it all depends on depth of water and port of destination.
      usually a ship with 5 cargo holds will narrowly fit in ports.
